Driving Roads in South/Mid Cornwall

Hi all,

As the title says, looking for some more driving roads in the South/Mid Cornwall. I have lived down here for three years now and only been driving for two and have found some great roads over my time but always open to more. 60mph speed limits are ideal and i'm based in Redruth so the closer the better but always nice to explore.

B3306, St. Ives to St. Just.

Agree road from St Just to St Ives is epic. A3124 in mid Devon is good as are some of the Dartmoor & Exmoor roads

I'm from Yorkshire but I know the B3306 having stayed in St Ives many times. Again, a positive vote for it!

We stayed down in St. Ives in December and went to The Lizard via B3302 (which was good), through Helston and onto the A3083. We had the A3083 to ourselves on the way back and it was amazing.

I've heard many things about the St Just road but cant bring myself to get down there hahaha. I went out yesterday and had a blast up the B3301 from Gwithian to Portreath which was good fun - no traffic around either which was a plus. The Atlantic highway is a great road, my Grandparents live near Bideford so been up that road many many times however for just a blast its a bit far - i'm 19 so cant spend tons on fuel especially in lockdown with no job! Many thanks for all the suggestions though.

Lived in Cornwall all my life (currently in Truro) but grew up in east Cornwall. Cant add much that others havent already said but the ST Just road is epic - best time of year is autumn or spring - its torture in the summer with all the tourist and camper vans clogging up the road so avoid. Time allowing one of the best things is to go all the way from redruth around the coast road through portreath down to halye then St Ives and to to St Just then Sennen and come back around the via lands end and Porthcurno. Its like a mini Northwest 500 haha!
Camelford and Davidstow area is good and the Atlantic Highway too although this is very fast open in parts so licence losing speeds need to be had to enjoy it really.

If you really want to have fun on the roads in cornwall you should join Camel Vale Motor Club who organise Navigational Scatter Rallys which is some of the most fun you can have driving spiritedly on the road and dont need anything special. Give it a quick google.....Perfect Friday night entertainment for you and a mate silly enough to navigate for you. Also they always start and finish at the pub so happy days!

I can't really comment on the Yeolvil to Oakhampton part as while I used to live in the backdown hills much has changed since. Your oakhapton to Cheddar rout looks OK, but from Dunster to Bridgewater on the A39 will take you about 1Hour! It is so slow and speed limited all the way with I think 1 may be 2 overtaking spots for 1 car at a time......if you are lucky. Personally I would turn right into Dunster and follow the A396 up to Wheddon cross and then take a left here (very narrow and difficult junction for 50yards), the road over the top to Bishops lydeard is brilliant. At Taunton I might be tempted on the M5 for a junction or 2 if it is not clogged, but the A391 out to Glastonbury has speed cameras but is better than a stationary M5.
