The boys have been round from the council and painted 'O/L' in white on a single track road near our house. Anybody know what it means? Google has not been my friend.

Is it permanently painted, or just spray painted?

If the latter it may be some kind of instruction for upcoming works.

Outside Lane

Preliminary markings for a new dual carriageway.

OP, why did you not object to this when the planning application was being considered?

Yeah, I'm guessing that, but I just wondered what sort of works they might be and whether a road engineer could unlock the code. Obviously it's temporary and an instruction of some sort.

It's for the road repair. Typically, an arrow like that will mean the whole lot is redone. Not sure that the O/L stands for though.

Not an alien marking for some sort of landing place then.

That's not O/L, it's OIL.

The drilling rigs will be arriving on Tuesday. All your neighbours got the letter detailing how they will receive their share of the revenues. If you didn't return the slip, unfortunately you've missed out and they will each get a bit more.

Overlay, as said, I reckon. Expect some cheap and nasty ‘tar and chip’ job to be carried out some time soon. Which is normally just a means of distributing tonnes of granite chippings either side of the road, without actually fixing any of the underlying structural problems in the road make up, such as the quite evident edge cracking in the photo.

Definitely "overlay" suggesting they will plane out a 40mm to 0mm chase over approx 10m then lay 40mm of Hot Rolled Asphalt over the old road. If it's Warwickshire it will be HRA55/10f....

Well the underlined arrow is clearly some arcane reference to semiotics.
ontology/logic?

Could be directions to a bizarre philosophy gathering. Possibly satanic. Most likely featuring nudity.

Steer clear.

We had this in our village, it’s bandits coming to steal stuff. Follow the line and there will be a catalytic converted on a Tesla being eyed up, without a doubt, I heard it on facebook .

It could also mean orgasms likely
