Longest Straight in Britain?

B6318 Military Road has some nice long, clear straights on it. Would be very good for vmax but for one small problem - the sideroads and people who just pull out without looking.
Nice road that, lots of long straights with reasonable visibility on a clear day. But as you say, lots of little farm/side roads.

Was having a perusal of the map, and discovered the A15 has a pretty long straight to me. Any longer ones in the country? With or without scameras?
Only a few parts of the road give good visibilty though which makes you realise how straight it is.
Its not like a long, stretched out US Highway........ In fact I think there's a few roundabouts on it too.
The A15 is straight enough, but undulates a lot giving very bad visibility. There's a lot of commercial traffic on it which makes the average speed somewhere around 50mph.
On the stretch from Scunthorpe to Lincoln, the only roundabout I can think of is Caenby Corner. Still, this road is one of the most dangerous in the UK claiming more than it's fair share of drivers and, more particularly, riders each year.

What you guys want is the Derby-Stoke dragstrip, ie the A50,
Sure, it has a roundabout or two, but they're all nice big driftable ones.
No cameras either, and not much plod.
The A15 is not very good, too many side roads and farm entrances and numpties and dips and a huge number of DD's too. Very dodgy.

Not quite straight but the M10 is allegedly quite good for top speed runs
The M45 used to be quite good until they put a junction in halfway.
Try starting from Watford Gap north bound and go M1 M45 to the end, round the island then back to Watford Gap south bound. Don`t forget the stop watch and the mobile phones.
I don`t think there is a record for it but it could be fun setting one.
I would`nt mind betting that the BiB have one.

Not the longest straight in Britain, but a fantastic place for a burn near the South Coast - New Road in Ditchling...
Ah, yes, part of my legendary "Hassocks to Withdean and back in 16 minutes" run in 1995 in my mother's old Pug 309. Was en route to pick my brother up from an athletics meet. When I got back me old mum said "haven't you gone yet?"

Can also stop of at award-winning vinyards beforehand...
I used to use that road as part of my early Sunday morning blasts in the Griff.

In my 1983 Honda Civic S I frequently used to beat my mate Paul in his XR3i... I think best times have been forgotten about - must have been all the post-driving pints of Harveys in the Black Horse.

GetCarter recomended this to me the last time i was in The Highlands. Not quite straight, but it IS possible to top out along here. (I believe)
I'll agree with this Very wide road, with good visibility, excellent potential!
Confirmed. There's usually absolutely nothing on this stretch of road, and certainly no GATSOS.
OK its not straight but you often get sightlines out into the distance and an occasional slope to help get the final few mph try the A 897 or the B871. these manage to avoid the campervan hell that the NC500 has become. Took my old scooby south from bettyhill to helmsdale on a fully moonlit night two years ago a whole 7 mins faster than any daytime run!
Foot pinned to the rubber mat for what seemed like an eternity. Only met three other cars one going my way (zero lift overtake) the others coming towards me in, the old girls brakes smelled like my last knockhill RWYB trackday, and got my personal vmax and lowest road based fuel consumption!

It's not totally straight, but the Fosse way is prety straight!
It has a mile long section of arrow-straight and flat road just south of Rugby IIRC. Think it's actually called Mile Straight or something like that. That's not actually the Fosse (but quite close to it). The Fosse runs through the nearby Princethorpe and Stretton on Dunsmore. I was born about half a mile from it, and it's actually known locally as The Straight Mile, although it's slightly longer tbf, and absolutely arrow straight and flat.
It was used a lot by Coventry car factories - particularly Rootes - as an unofficial test track, and many of us local eejits similarly too.
I actually cracked the 'ton' on it for the first time on my RD350 in 1974 (and may have exceeded that somewhat on a few occasions).
The local bobby on his LE Velo never stood a chance
