Well folks, I took a trip up to the Triangle this afternoon.
Not too much traffic about, and as those of you who have driven the roads will know, they are superb.
As you can see from the photos it was a fantastic day for a “spirited” drive.
I’m still learning the car, but suffice to say 462 hp and rear drive only, with no electronic safety net whatsoever, focuses the mind !
The car is really way too stiffly suspended (and too low also) for the roads of the triangle and those close by. I can honestly say my old Impreza P1 would have been waaaay quicker.
Couple that with the ice cold conditions and I had one or two “moments”
Hope you enjoy the pictures. (Worthwhile clicking on them to view the full size version as I've had to resize them...)
It’s quick up here
Road conditions a little on the chilly side !
Driving Nirvana…….
Some chaps from the RAF were up there playing too…….
Evo used this location late last year
THE best road IMO
A light dusting of road salt……
A session of spirited driving rapidly drained the fuel reserves more quickly than anticipated and left the trip computer showing Leaving the threat of being stranded in a very remote part of Wales…..
Some very gentle driving found me at Evos favourite filling staion.
Heading back home through some spectacular scenery
As the sun sets the temperatures started to plunge……..
All in all an excellent drive over some perfect roads and amongst some stunning scenery.

Rochester,
Go with your missus, go on your own, but just GO !!!!
Hope the above gives you some encouragement
A word of warning about the trip up to the Triangle chaps, take it easy on the A5, Brunstroms staff love to nick everything up there - more so in summer of course when us bikers head up that way
Great roads though, I drove some of the EVO test cars up there on the Greatest Fwd feature last summer. Man that was a hard few days :P

....Some amazing images...
Slippy, in the words of general Melchet (black adder goes forth), "Damn this chateau neuf laffitte". you certainly looked very hard done by this afteroon - those horrible congested, unscenic roads, in your horribly underpowered car Good work fella!

Off to N.Wales tomorrow, will do 'The Triangle' in my SLK (not girly, honest!) on Saturday AM, can't wait after reading and seeing this thread!
You're a brave man, I'm guessing they'll be a fair few inches of snow up there tomorrow...............
Hoping it will have cleared up by then. Wouldn't have chosen this time of year for it but we're off to a wedding nr Manchester so I convinced the wife that a romantic detour was in order. Little does she know....
slippydif, excellent pictures, but how did you enjoy the drive as you seem to have walked more to get a great shot
Off upto yorkshire and the buttertubs for our next drive out, then back over to evo country again I think

Distance very (approximately) around the triangle itself is 18 miles.
From just West of the centre of Birmingham it will be no less than a 220 mile round trip ...........

Reminds me of the drive i did a few years ago on the way to a cycling weekend at Coed Y Brenin.
Picked my mate up at Manchester Airport (he lives in Guernsey) at about 8pm, was in a Primera SRi at the time.
Took M56 to Chester, stopped at offy for 2 crates of beer for the long weekend then on the A494 through Mold, Ruthin, Bala, Dolgellau, onto the A478 to a bunkhouse about 7 miles up the A478.
Was in October so dark all the way, superb drive and I was hammering it all the way much to my mates discomfort (the speed limit in Guernsey is 35mph!).
To top it off we had an excellent 4 days at Coed y Brenin with not a cloud in the sky for the whole time.

I bet it does! I wonder what power it produced with -4degC ambient?
My singled turbo'd Focus was noticeably quicker when I was there with 0degC reading on the dash.
PS apologies for the use of tt lamps. Didn't have them on for driving, just for an atmospheric pic

I bet it made you concentrate! What a great car as well
Done that road a few times over the years and it certainly seems to have become more popular just lately

Heh heh!
One of my favourite bits of road - always tend to take any car I've just bought up for a run along there - can be pretty quiet on a weekday evening - always fun seeing a jet in the valley below as well! Jaguar used to test a lot of their cars up there as well
Here's our Mini the first day we had it - bit further towards Bala than your shot
