Route 52 from Mendoza to Uspallata in Argentina. It starts off as a 'big sky' desert road, turns into an Alpine pass and then into the pre-asphalt Pikes Peak hillclimb. It then turns into something like the Dakar after the top.

-Not somewhere you'd want to crash though and the hire company had a separate excess for rolling the car over.

Hard to narrow it down but the A5012 in the Peak District National Park, UK between Newhaven and Cromford is pretty cool, especially down the gorge at the Cromford end. It's downhill there and twisty, covered in a tunnel of trees so pick a dry day!

Here's my Cobra doing the first section.

Just done the A5012 Matlock to Pikehall today, from the ten best, erm I mean most dangerous, list. Fantastic road, good mixture of tight n twisty just out of Matlock (well, Cromford really), opening out to well sighted sweeping bends as you get closer to Pikehall. For a first run I would recommend doing it this way round. Going from the fast open bit straight into the damp, enclosed mini gorge bit at the Cromford end could result in an unexpected call to the insurance/recovery company for the unwary or over enthusiastic.
This is the one I mean. As long as you know the twisty gorge at the Cromford end is coming it will be the grand finale of a great drive so I would start from the Newhaven end. My video only shows part of the fast open bit.

The E65 Prague to Brno. Hands down. Na joking. Over the Lecht to Tomintoul then back over to Dufftown then home. Its on my doorstep and its a cracking road. Think ex Evo guy Henry Catchpole said parts of that road was his favourite so surely can't be too bad.

What is quite conspicuous from this thread, is that very few roads mentioned are anywhere near the Southeast of England. It's understandable that London wouldn't get much of a mention, nor the parts of the home counties that border on to London, due to SWOT.

But what about the farther reaches of the home counties, Berkshire, Hampshire and the Sussexes? Got to be something worth a punt round there.

I find myself in a similar position to Chris71, from several years back. I've recently moved from the Southwest to the Southeast, and can't believe how hard it is to find a decent driving road round here. Anyone got any tips for a frustrated PHer living in Camberley, Surrey?

I rented Bruntingthourpe Airfield for a couple of hours some years back and had a fine old time - just me and the car. Not sure if you can do the same with Dunsfold? (Not far from you?) I was there a couple of months ago at Murray's exhibition - huge place... I assume the old Top Gear track is still there.

It's not very long, but when I lived in Camberley I used to enjoy the A339 from Basingstoke to Alton.

Now I live 20 mins from the Old Military Road/A939 featured above, and it's no contest. And less traffic. And no rozzers.

Sorry biggrin

Winchester to Stocksbridge was always nice on a bike.
Then there's the A272 (I think)

Not sure if I have said before on this thread, but the N260/N260a in Spain is incredible. Very quiet and just endless corners!
