The ride between Holme and Glossop is top quality.

That looks a bit like the Buttertubs (which coincidentally I thought was a slightly overrated road - the first bit is quite open so you'd have to be going very quickly to have fun and the second bit has a lot of blind crests, quite steep and rather narrow in places...)
It does look a bit like Buttertubs (I agree that it's overrated too). But this stretch in the pic between Woodhead and Holme moss is far better IMO. More like the Mountain on the TT course, always good visability and as offten as not devoid of traffic.

Would have to third the opinion that the Buttertubs is overrated, great views, but not the place for a blat.

Also third the opinion that Blakey Ridge is my favourite road, which is fortunate as it forms part of my daily commute! Be aware though- I saw an unmarked 5-series up there last night which had pulled over a white van. First time I've ever seen any enforcement over The Ridge- hope it's not a sign of things to come, everyone speeds over there.

The B6342 from Morpeth to Rothbury (now infamous) is a great road I discovered just the other day. Also discovered the road from Shotley Bridge to Blanchland last night....very good although rather bumpy. I really am quite spoilt living in Northumberland!

But for me, for the pure fact that it was the first great road i ever drove, it has to be the Hartside Pass.

Favourite ever thats well known - hartide pass (alston to Hexham). only ever been over in my Boxster, or father's R500. Sheer bliss whatever you use.

Obscure "i wish I could go again" - too a deour between Ayr and the M74, past a big lake - in a Passat diesel Estate. Still strikes me as one of the most glorious roads ever. Gret views, great driving road. I will go there again when I have ime and a suitable car =)

Perranporth to St.Agnes in autumn when all the visitors have gone home is a good 10 minute blat to gat a pasty before lunch, and Truro to the Lancia Garage at Playing Place was great in the 70's in my Fiat X1-9 and my Lancia Monte Carlo-go visit it today and most of it has been sanitised by rounabouts. Both of these have no cameras or potential hair drier sites. It's just harder to get back to the 1970's as my time machine has a vector problem at present.
My 964 from Honiton to Truro outside of the commuter hours is a good energiser too.
Drove a 106 home late yesterday through the new forest-not bad dynamics.

I might have a new favourite - I've just done Zig Zag Hill.

You know how some roads are overrated? This isn't. The zig zag bit is aptly named, and just wide enough to be attacked enthusiastically in a small car if you keep an eye out for oncomming traffic, but actually pretty much the whole of the B3081 is sublime. It's been a morning well misspent. smile

Haven't been able to play on very many, but of the few I've done the A4120 between Aberystwyth and Devil's Bridge has to be my favourite - while living in Aber there was a period where I'd go out and drive it every night.

My vote is taken directly from the news:

http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyI...

The top ten most dangerous roads:

A357 Macclesfield to Buxton - Cheshire/Derbyshire
A5012 Pikehall to Matlock - Derbyshire
A621 Baslow to Totley - Derbyshire/South Yorkshire
A625 Calver to Sheffield - South Yorkshire
A54 Congleton to Buxton - Derbyshire
A581 Rufford to Chorley - Lancashire
A5004 Whaley Bridge to Buxton - Derbyshire
A675 Blackburn to Preston - Lancashire
A61 Barnsley to Wakefield - South/West Yorkshire
A285 Chichester to Petworth - West Sussex

They all sound good! smile

But to be fair any decent motorway in the early hours is really good, Best drive i ever did was the M62 at 2.45am, i think i slowed down to 140MPH for some of the tigher corners, or the Roads from Bridlington back to Howden/goole area, but again only in the early hours, Ive done the whole run in under 30 mins with a nice video of the whole drive, including the snow on the ground in places! smile

(Discalimer M62 is a codename for a road in my mind which bears no relation the the M62 motorway in yorkshire/lancashire and of course i obey all speed limits at all times which is why i have 6 penalty points on my license!)

Stang Forest/Stang Top road, north east corner of the Dales, heading south. First section is like a roller coaster, by far and away the most fun road in the north east. Bit of a suspension killer mind.

That looks photoshopped. Custard test or it never happened.
Oh, hold on, that sounds rediculous even for PH. Looks like a cracking road, tho.

Oh yes we are.

I once managed to overtake about 15 numpties at once all bimbling at 45mph along that sequence of corners there. You can see a good mile and a bit of oncoming road from there.

A169 from Pickering to Whitby.
A6024 from Holme village to the Woodhead pass.
And just over the road from there, B6105 from Woodhead pass to Glossop.
A6024 to Holme is more challenging, from Holme is more fun biggrin

Interesting that they're all A-roads. I guess I'm going native down here in the south east - virtually the only roads that are NSL and quiet enough to be driven enthusiastically are B-roads or unclassifieds. irked

Oh to be back in the Westcountry... Or rural Wales/Yorkshire/Scotland/Derbyshire etc.

PS Plenty - I like the photos!

That's a good choice, but depends how many coaches and other tourist traffic are on it.

As usual with these things, best to get there early or late in the day.

Oh yes we are.

Is that pic not the section north of Granton, just south of Nairn?

The road parallel(ish) to it the B9007 is also a favourite of mine.
