assuming scrutineers/organisers are ok with it [should be fine] then yes we've got 4 contour gps cameras and a couple of go pros.

apologies for lack of updates, the de-mob from the race was quite involved [1500km drives, flights to norway, heathrow, joburg and dubai] so we're pretty knackered. i also want garlick's approval to avoid advertising rules as obviously the pics are very sponsor laden.

in short - the highlights were class pole by 2.5sec, fastest day and night practice and fastest race lap by 1.8sec. however PAS failure after 3hrs and a midrace engine swap put paid to a podium place. we finished though and after the effort expended over the past 6mths this was a resounding success. drivers, mechanics and owners all very happy! the car is back in arnhem for a new engine [post 2008, +45bhp] and a host of tweaks and we're already planning for the 24H dubai in january.

One of the main items we need to sort out is a bigger fuel tank as the fuel cell we fitted was on 50L capacity when we were told it was a 65L capacity tank!. Thus we cannot run for 2 hours (which is the maximum a driver can drive in 1 go).

We have the Abu Dhabi motorshow in December so we might try and get the car displayed on a potential sponsor stand.

Further details can of course be found on the teams website svdp-racing.co.uk

Did you ever get any in-car footage of the race? I'd especially like to see how it moved off at the start.

And did you manage to find out how the steering rack had been modified; the long duration of the OEM part strikes me as a real weakness moving a 1-Series from road to track.

hiya,

we did get some footage but it wasn't very good and it wasn't a lightning start as lead driver was taking it easy to find a space amongst the running pack. given we spent rather a lot of time in the pits we never got round to editing the raw video,

rather a timely bump as we are competing in the 24H dubai this weekend. the dutch lads are over here with us so will ask them about the PAS.

we've all had rather hectic work/personal schedules since barca so apologies for the lack of updates, although these are available at the website [google svdp racing]. in short the prep for dubai has been:

full rebuild of suspension including nailing the problem we were having with loosening rear toe arm bolts [running cup suspension now]
reinstated ABS
retained same engine [not the post 2008 as planned] but remapped for a broader power band and higher shift point [now changing at 4k rather than 3.2-3.5]
fitted 130i cup front valance and splitter, modded by rich to match the wide arches
+10mm spacers on the rear to tame the oversteer
120l ATL tank fitted for fewer fuel stops
AIM digi dash

the guys ran a track day on the GP circuit [same as for the 24] midweek and fastest lap was Wubbe with a time in the 2:27's with only 5 laps run and on his first visit to the circuit. for comparison Cor Euser's 120d cup car did a fastest race lap of 2:29 last year. with a better setup we reckon we're right on pace biggrin

as always seems to be the case with the team, delays with shipping & customs clearance meant we haven't had as much time as we would have liked for body prep. the aim was to have the car in the body shop for a full fettle and respray but the reality is more bodyfiller, sandpaper and rattle cans! tbh it could look like a turd for all we care as long as the pace is there!

busy busy week but i'll see if we can nominate someone to provide regular updates and post a writeup after the event.

for those who have it, you can catch the race live on motors tv. otherwise head to http://www.24hdubai.com

if any of you are in dubai this weekend the race is free entry. we're in garage 12A, come say hi.
