Father, son and a V8
Discussion
I still get a lump in my throat when I think about my Dad, some 2 and half years after he died.
Although I inherited his love of cycling and cars, we were never able to "directly" share the experiences of either - he was a chronic diabetic which robbed him of his health to the point that he couldn't cycle with me, and by the time I was old enough to drive, he could no longer.
Still, I was able to take him to Mallory Park where we'd watch a day's racing together but by the time I was able to afford a Caterham, he wasn't fit to be in it for long. A brief test drive was all.
I'm back into cycling again - something he loved in his teens and 20s, and something he often looked back on with fondness. My brother is back into cycling too. We both carry Dad with us (in our memories) when we ride. And when I took my own son to Mallory Park - Dad was there too.
Like the OP, I have a lot of guilt about some of the occasions Dad and I clashed but I try to balance them with how I regard him (role model, for my son and me), and the fact that the good times outweighed the bad tens of times over.
It's fabulous that you've managed to track down your shared car. I'd never let that go now. Great story..!!

Hey, I was a poor student, thus the 'interesting' jeans and general hairyness.
I now need to figure out logistics of storage and insurance. Less fun
This is before you went on to form the Electric Light Orchestra? I now need to figure out logistics of storage and insurance. Less fun
Top result OP
Brilliant story, hope the car stays with you!
My dad's had a series 3 e type roadster since before I was born, we've ripped it apart and totally re built it once. It's by no means concours, we call it a 'well loved/used' classic. Hoping it's plenty of years away, when he goes, the cars mine. I don't think i'll ever let it go, regardless of how expensive it will be to keep it when fuel is £5682947.35 a litre!
