looks just like the one from the start of gone in 60 seconds! It looks lovely! Congratulations, I've promised myself a 911 at some point in life.

Came from a VXT > Z4C > 911. Also got a Clio as a winter car/runabout so don't use the 911 as much as I would like. I've always wanted one and it's an itch I had to scratch. Got it a week before my 30th so I reached my target of ownership before I was 30! I had initially budgeted for an early pre-facelift 996 but then found this on eBay and it was perfect. 85k miles, facelift, spoiler and a decent colour, all for sub £10k wink It's booked in for the IMS bearing mod, service and brake fluid change in the new year.

It's dirty at the moment as haven't had the chance to wash it but this is the only other photo I have of it

I'd be curious about this too, it was the Main reason I decided not to get a 911 a couple of years ago, infact I didn't even know there was a mod to eliminate the problem.

The IMS mod is £140 (delivered!) from Pelican Parts in the USA and there's a local indy that can fit it for about £400. It's a relatively high outlay on a car I've just bought, but when considered that if the IMS bearing was to go, it'd have been about £6k for a new engine. I'm just getting it done for piece of mind if nothing else.

Oh thats not bad at all. I was thinking of a Boxster or 911 and I guess the mods the same for both engines. Got me thinking again.........

Bookmarked!

I'm looking at dipping my toe into 996 ownership in the next couple of years so I'm interested in the IMS fix although being a tight git I will look into fitting it myself. How hard can it be? lol.

Interesting, searched for the parts on Pelican and it lead me to a how to guide.

Seems straight forward enough to do if you take your time.

I spent a bit more and got the LN Engineering bearing, on the basis it ought to be a better replacement. Time will tell, of course.

Nice bit of sideways, on the way to the golf club maybe? Watch out for the speed cameras on the pearl.

Forgot to mention that I had the car delivered from Norwich by a company found on UShip.com for a reasonable price. They picked it up and 50 miles on the way to Newcastle the water pump failed. Cue a panicy phonecall at 11.30pm from the driver saying that the car was knackered! He explained the symptoms, and I immediately thought it could be the water pump so recommend he drives it no further. He had Green Flag cover so it was delivered to my parents on the back of a low-loader having spent all night travelling (and the delivery driver having no sleep!).

Then it was booked in and collected by my local, friendly garage and they fixed the water pump and replaced the battery was that was duff too. So I was £375 down before I'd even sat in the thing! So I had the delivery driver, Green Flag driver, mechanic then my Dad driving the car before I'd even seen it!

Not wanting to hijack the thread but there are no speed cameras on the Pearl (or at least I hope not as I'll have alot of tickets coming my way haha)

You may be right. It's just the sign on the right hand side on the way in that always had me worried. But normally in a friends SRT8 anyway so the tickets would have gone to him.

I really like these and I think it's where my current car/bike fund might be spent next...

Does mean saving a bit harder though as the other option was a boxter s

If I sold all my various car/bikes and van I reckon I could do it....
