Started on the suspension arms over the weekend, the bushes are being a royal pain to get out. I have ordered a large socket to go over the bush and use the good old thread bar and washer method on them.

The rear trailing arm bushes look really good so will not bother changing them (if their not broke and all that) so decided to give them a lick of paint.

Think Tony Stark would be proud lol

I gave up on mine when I did the same thing, popped round to my local Kwikfit and one of the lads used the hydraulic press on them for the princely sum of a packet of biscuits. Same when I came to press them back in.
Any garage with a press can do them in minutes - it'll take you hours.

Love the car though, one of the few Japanese designs from that era that still looks fresh.

Good shout, if I still can't get them out I will be popping down to my local garage to see what they can do.

Thankfully the pillow bushes are all OK, will probably change the ones on the rear upper arms as they take most of the stress.

This is really cool. I always wanted one of these.

If you're going to be like Vin Diesel can you sing us a Rhianna song in a melancholy tone?

Hmm I will if I have enough to drink lol

Managed to get some bushes out using a large socket a threaded rod and a nut on each end. The plan is to tighten the nut on the end of the socket which pulls the other nut inwards, which in tune pulls the bush out of the suspension arm.

After a lot of work it popped out.

However had a slight snag that it was also wedged in the socket! Had to put in a vice and hit it with a hammer to get it out.

Heres an update.

I got to drive this home today

Now the more eagle eyed of you will notice it isn't the one I originally looked at. Sadly the engine rebuild on that one is taking much longer due to a family issue and the seller is passing my deposit back as he is unable to confirm the time in which the car will be complete.

So I went back to the drawing board and spotting this up for sale by one of the importers on the owners site. Its a 1997 Type R which came in to the UK in 2009. Its just had a full engine rebuild (now on 300 miles so still cant open her up yet!) and the only mods are tein lowering springs and cat back exhaust.

So far I have ordered a new Radio as there currently isn't one in the car, the HKS exhaust will be fitted possibly tomorrow afternoon and once my deposit is back and I have sold some of my paint ball gear I will be getting a set of these:

I am unable to do anything to the engine until the warranty runs out (don't want to tempt fate) so this winter I will be sorting out the suspension bushes and getting the interior up to scratch.

Probably a blessing, by the time the engine's ready to be modified. Everything else should be perfect and ready, so you can let loose with the fun bit without worrying about stupid things like 'stopping' and 'cornering' haha

OOf what a busy evening.

with help of a couple of Jacks and a pair of axle stands plus lots of fairy liquid I managed to swap the exhausts over!

Out with the old

and in with the new

Sounds rather good smile Not silly loud but a good burble with a few pops thrown in.

OK time for an update.

Engine is now bedded in, managed to do just over 1,000 miles in 3 weeks! Averaged around the low 20's so not too bad.

Oil and filter were promply changed and have been enjoying some WOT and full revs. Although it isn't as quick as the Tuscan it replaces it has a different sense of speed, the punch you get from the 2nd turbo is great fun smile

I also took the opertunity to fit a headunit as the car did not come with one. After fiddling about with verious owners wireing I managed to get it to work....yey! However I then found out no speakers were in the car frown

So on wards and upwards, sourced some used speakers and wired these all in and hey presto got sound, but the headunit would turn off every few seconds...grrrr!!! Turned out it needed grounding.

No problem thinks I, will just pull the unit out and add a cable, then remembered I had attached a rubber bung on the back of the headunit that connects to the chassis and stops the radio from being pulled out.

This then meant I had to remove all the dash trim but it now works so worth it!

Next thing on the list is fit these to the suspension arms, I was tempted by the black series but hear they are rather harsh on the road and more suited to track use.

A task for the Christmas break is to convert all the dial back lights from their stock amber/green to red using LEDs and removing the tint from the instrument backing. I will also take this chance to fit a new smaller steering wheel whilst everything is out. This should make driving the car a bit more comfortable as I find my thigh brushes the wheel when using the clutch....of course I could just loose a bit of podge and make my thigh thinner.
