Moving along nicely Mark !

PS I'm the one who put up a photo of my diamond black one with the MK Motorsport alloys on the Facebook page.
Yes, I'm looking forward to getting the mapping done. It was great fun with the tired s14 so a fresh one with cams etc should be a real blast.

MK's always look great on an M3. smile

Yeah I can imagine what an engine rebuild would feel like.....especially in a car that you have owned and loved for years.

Kudos to you !

What did surprise me was how worn my engine was, yet how good it had felt and performed despite that. It actually looked like it had never been apart before, so was well overdue for a rebuild.

Right now the wiring is being done and I'm waiting on coil packs and HT leads.

Plodding away though the final jobs now. Wiring up all the gauges is no fun but we are trying to use the original sender units wherever possible. I'm still on the hunt for a 52mm speedo but I'm unsure one even exists?

Opted to go with a 14" Spal slimline electric fan, which is just about the biggest I can fit without any mods. I'm also having an alloy washer fluid reservoir made to replace the grubby plastic one.

Hopefully it'll all be back together and ready to map soon though.

My not quite finished dash for my 2002 featuring 52mm speedo with LCD odometer (3rd from left). Had it modified to look like other VDO gauges.

Can't remember the manufacturer but I do have the box which I'll be able to dig out next week sometime.

Regards

Jonathan

Why is the photo this way round?

Appreciate details once you find box please. I'm not really all that desperate for a speedo but makes MOT less grief.

Ideal. Thanks! That's just the job. Goodness knows how I missed them?

I'm hoping my wheels will be back soon. I didn't expect them to take 6 months!

Your E30 has turned into something pretty special Mark.

I thought it was great prior to the rebuild... but it will surely be something else once mapping is complete.

Not envious at all!!!

Can you get a few videos up when you have the time?

Thanks. I'm fortunate to be able to plough my savings into it I guess. It was never going to be an all original example so I figured I may as well just build the car I want instead.

I'm just trying to lay my hands on an old crank sensor at the moment. I'm actually using a Ford one (as recommended by DTA) but need to work out placement and mounting. The plug leads are going to be a couple of weeks yet though, so it shouldn't hold things up.

I'm also chasing up my wheels today. The new barrels were due weeks ago and the centres have supposedly been painted. As far as tyres go, I think I'm going to just go with Federal 595's for now.

I'll definitely sort some video.

Thanks Jason. I'll drop him a mail but I seem to recall him selling the last remaining kits, with no plan to make more.

Lee no longer does the trigger kit.

On a brighter note the centres from my wheels are finally back from paint, complete with subtle change of shade.

Things have slowed as I'm having to wait for Magnecor to make my new HT leads, as I need them to work with the Zetec coil pack being used in the swap to DTA standalone. I'm just hoping they don't take too long though.

The VDO gauges are all wired now, except for the fuel gauge. I'm going to try and get it to work with the OE sender in the fuel tank but I'm not sure if the resistance is even close? So long as I can get it to a point where I know I'm down to the last gallon or so though, I'll be happy enough.

Unfortunately Massive Lee no longer sell their trigger wheel kit with the water pump mounting. VAC sell a similar kit but it's way more expensive. I think we are just going to persevere with mounting the Zetec crank sensor. DTA recommends the Zetec parts and they're much cheaper than the OE equivalent.

I'm searching for some used headlights at the moment but the ones on eBay etc aren't any better than I already have. I considered buying new Depo branded, as a temporary solution, but I'm unsure how bad they are for quality? I'm told the new wheel lips and barrels are currently at the machine shop, so hopefully they won't be too much longer now. The final part I'm after (either OE or a copy) is the lower Evo3 rear spoiler gurney. Ideally in carbon fibre. If anyone knows where I can get one please let me know.

Cars coming on great Mark, i'd asked on instagram what ecu you'd gone for but hadnt realised you had a build thread. Funnily enough the DTA s60 is what i've been recommended for the 2002, need to get saving!

Check the DTA Fast forum as there are quite a few people selling used. There's plenty of good advice there too.

No real updates I'm afraid and I am still waiting on some parts, so things have ground to a bit of a halt lately. The new barrel and outer lip for the wheels are awaiting machining, although the centres are back from paint. I did think about going a little darker but this colour means the detail of the basket weave remains visible. It's a nice contrast to the red of the bodywork too. I still need to buy tyres although I have decided to stick with staggered 215 and 235/40 r17's though. I'd opt for something like r888r Toyo but my bank balance is taking such an almighty kicking of late, so a cheaper but decent alternative is what's needed.

Magnecor are making the custom HT leads, as I will be using Ford Zetec coil packs with the swap to DTA standalone. Unfortunately it's a busy time for them hence the delay. We still have to work out the mount for the cam sensor too, so that's next on the list and then the newly rebuilt dogleg can go back in, along with the new clutch and lighter flywheel.

A few more shiny bits arriving this week from Seven9 Design including a new washer fluid reservoir and spare wheel well mounted fuel reservoir. The fuel cell will go in later though, once I have a swirl pot and dual pumps.

Final parts are the lamp pod and lights, but they're still on order and the pod will need painting before we mount it. It should look awesome once fitted though. I also have new brake discs but I wanted to have the Tarox front callipers refurbished before fitting. I also need to get new pads but there are limited brands available. I like to use Hawk, as they work really well but don't cost silly money. Unfortunately Hawk don't make them in this pattern so Carbotech are the only alternative to the Ferodo DS2500 I run currently. I have no experience of them myself though and at £200 it's a bit much to spend on a whim.

I hate bloody bank holidays. Magnecor shipped the new leads yesterday and they'll be sitting in a sack somewhere for the next 4 or 5 days. frown

On a brighter note, the good people at KW Germany are looking at supplying an upgrade from my V2's to either V3's or (hopefully) their Club Sport version.

Still no sign of the alloys coming back from AGS either,
