Getting way way off topic but this is what a tweaked K sounds like and not dissimilar to mine...

I think Davide describes it really well.
You don't just drive the Exige it becomes part of you.

Small bits and pieces today. The fuel cap spring failed, really annoying. The BMW part is around £30, but thought I’d try fitting a couple of magnets, mainly as I’ve seen mixed reviews of how much of a faff it is to replace...plus I have the magnets biggrin

It works.

Rears tyres are now shagged. The F1’s have been decent, but thinking of PSS’s, anyone out there have any advice?

As I was passing BMW, popped in to look at an M2 comp, they have a manual in. Time for another test drive me thinks?
Could you put up a photo of your magnet fuel cap fix, its a common fault on these and I have had to change a few over the years, the magnet idea could be a nice easy solution (and avoid having to paint the new fuel flap as well as fit).

Rear tyres I've recently put Mich' P Sport 4's on our 130i, great all round and superb in the wet, PSS cost more and less good in the cold and wet.

Grab these 10mm magnets and stick/glue one under the rubber bump stop, then an opposing one on the flap smile
Top tip of the month for all owners of older 1 series models - thank you!

Agreed. Run MPS4’s on my 130i and they’re mega across a mix of daily driving and a lot of track work. Surprisingly good in wintry conditions.

Not sure of the same mechanism but I had the same issue with my E36. Looked online and people recommended spraying grease along the spring. It worked - the cheapest and easiest fix I have done!

I've recently bought a Z4 MC with MPSS tyres, and they aren't great in the current cold/damp weather. They are actually worse (but more fun) than the Bridgestone Potenza run-flats on the 3.0Si it will replace!

But from what I have read the MPSS seems to perform at its best in higher temperatures, whereas the MPS4S seems to cope better across a wider range of temperatures.

My 125i did have PS4's all round, however with the supply issues on 255/35 R18 models, when my last set wore out I had to move to PSS on the rear, with PS4 still up front. I'm probably alone in this, but I massively prefer how it drives now smile

With PS4's on the back it almost felt like it had too much grip (admittedly I did fit tyres that were 10mm wider than standard), whereas now the car feels far more neutral. Rear grip seems broadly similar - it does drop off when cold and damp, but not excessively so.

I had Super Sports on my e39 M5 and they're the dog's bks. Getting a comfortable 14k miles on the rear of a 400bhp car is decent going too.

Would definitely choose them over F1's (and I've had F1's on two cars). I didn't have an issue with them in colder temperatures either, I feel that can be somewhat overstated. I don't ever recall people saying things along those lines when they first came out either. Don't get me wrong, they're always going to do their best in dry, mild weather but then what high performance summer tyre isn't?

If I was in your shoes I'd also be looking at the PS4 and PS4S.

I'm sure I remember seeing emails back and forward from Michelin at the time stating the PSS was still the stronger performer in the dry with the PS4 being a bit more rounded. Doubt you could go wrong with any of them though.
