When will you be doing the NC500?

Talking with some friends to take the boat from Belgium and do it (amongst others) with my S1 111S. We're thinking september.
I did the west coast section of the NC500 in the process of a 4 day Scotland road trip in early September last year, first big trip in the Evora. I think it's a good time to do it, the traffic is very light but temperature and weather were still (largely) alright.

To both yourself and Tickles though, if you can stretch to a stay in The Torridon for a night, it's highly recommended.

Cheers Alex, yes Torridon and Applecross are on my route. Stunning place!

Fantastic looking Elise!

Recently have just purchased an S1 in standard form. I was wondering about the headlamp/light upgrade?

Is it just the bulb or a whole new headlight? Mine are slightly corroded on the inside and prefer the standard look although I keep reading and being advised to upgrade to the LED units but I'm not a fan of the look! Struggling on what to do.

I'm also guessing the wheels you have are like hens teeth? love them!

I've got one very similar to Tickle's but standard S1 and on Compomotives.

I went LED from pnm, mainly because I like the look and the fact it's really simple to plug in. The HID kit is a bulb replacement which is pretty easy through the front arch, then you have to mount a ballast as well. (Ive got one if you want it).

The HID kit I have is bulbs and ballast only, my head lights are in decent condition. I would go PNM if I end up replacing the full lights. A friend has them (yellow car on some of my thread pics) and they are good. I don't do much night driving, but on the odd occasion I do, they are miles better than OEM, it's also nice to be seen! PNM do the chrome kit, so has an OEM look too.

Victory wheels do come up for sale every now and again, probs around the £1k mark, depending on condition and if tyres are included.

Many thanks shall bare this in mind while I decide what to do.

Question to both how do the LED lights look once fitted? I'm very much into the standard look and worried these lights look a bit 'halfords'. Seem the way to go as planning on using the Elise daily.... spin

I'm thinking my early Summer trip north of the border into Scotland is on hold this year!

I'm going to un'SORN it though soon, it needs to move, even if it's just a local food run. See what comes from the government on how much use it gets.

Here's how mine look. First pic is with the RHS one fitted, second is with them on in the daylight.

ETA: Make sure to join Seloc and the S1 community on facebook, tons of info there

Thanks for this.

I'm not sure, think I prefer the old school original look these look to obvious frown but considering this is now my daily it seems wise to upgrade to the LED.

Sorry for hijack!

No problem. The HID and LED kits certainly have a white light, so it's obvious they are not the dim, yellow OEM lights. The way I see it, especially in a grey car is that it needs to be seen, they are very small, low cars. I always drive with my side lights on, LED ones.

Not had much to offer with this thread really this year. Work, family and of course Covid playing big parts in hindering getting out for a drive.

With Wales and England having different restrictive phases of Lockdown, early in the year my driving had to stay in England. With the Peaks and Forest of Bowland close I got to try some new routes, also a change of scenery.

Forest of Bowland has some great roads. A nice way to get reacquainted with the car and my brain to the outside world!

Next up was the Peaks. I've never really took to the roads in the Peaks, and this journey took its toll on the car. Heading back, I heard what sounded like a stone hitting a rear arch liner, followed by a soft wobble. Pulling over, on inspection it was a snapped toe-link. Very lucky for it to go in such a forgiving scenario eek

Anyone with an Elise with unknown toe-link integrity have a good look at them, and if possible change them. I never thought mine would go through road use and they are inspected yearly (visual). No doubt, 20 years of use has taken its toll.

Kindly, the others on the run stayed with me until the tow truck arrived, they also took great pleasure in taking pictures with the drone and sending them to me as I was in the cab of the truck heading home censored

A trip to Phoenix and the car was good, new, upgraded toe-links and geometry done. The tow truck also cracked my plate, so a new plate was fitted and a better mount (Elise Parts). Quick local shake down and all good cool

Great to be able to get over the border into Wales, had a few brilliant mornings and a memorably evening run on the week of the 25th Elise' Anniversary.

That's it, now it's approaching winter and the car is SORN once again. Plans to go to Scotland early in the spring were put on hold as were some upgrades for the car. As a massive positive, family are healthy and I have this great car in the garage for when its time to enjoy it again driving

I’d always wanted an Elise. Since I was about 17-18, it’s been a long term ambition. Life - a euphemism for money, of course, at least initially - always got in the way. Although truly over the last 10 years it’s been more circumstance than finance that paused my ambition. Over time my dream was dampened and it became really only just there in the background.

BUT - this wonderful thread acted on me like a one man PR campaign for the Elise, over the past 2-3 years and really reminded me of my desire. i finally got my elise last year. It hasn’t stopped breaking since. I love it. Thanks Tickle.

Glad the thread and my car was part of your Elise journey, maybe not the breaking bit biglaugh

Some mild updates to the thread to come. Booked in for a C Service next week with a few bits getting sorted on it too.

Three years since a proper update, finally have some time to cobble something together.

The update will start where it will finish, at Phoenix Motorsport for a service. As per my A-Service routine now, a brew and chat whilst looking at the cars in for some work. This particular spring, a gaggle of S1’s cool

Car all sorted for a bit of a driving; I think the photos are in order of runs out. Great to get out, if anything more special due to lack of time recently.

Building on a little tradition of going for a drive on Summer Solstice evening, a group of us decided to make a weekend of it and go further down to the Elan Valley. A nice mix of Lotus, as well as a rouge M3 (Lotus was in for work).
Practical, kind of boxedin

Some great roads, roads I have never been on, venturing south from North Wales. Great scenery. As this was coming out of lock-down, it was nice to socialise rather than WhatsApp or Teams! A fantastic couple of days with perfect weather.

Not all friends have little plastic cars, it was interesting to get out with a friend who has an immaculate and somewhat non-standard EVO VII. Two very different ways to get down a Welsh B-Road! In-keeping, photo of said EVO was on the EVO Triangle.

Finally, the latest fan of my car. He loves it, as do I taking him out for a breakfast or a local C&C. To be honest, it will probably be his one day!

Apart from routine services, the car has been fine, noting that its not moved much! It’s had a new numberplate and plinth again after a badger strike. Badger was already dead but was higher than my plate, resulting in a bang and cracked plate/plinth. Lucky escape could have been worse.
As the car does not have a radio, I removed the aerial and perished rubber gasket and replaced with a new one and stumpy antenna, in the same faux carbon as the dash. Adding lightness!

Last part of the update, my car was featured in the PH Best cars of the last 25 years feature – Sports Car.

https://youtu.be/VlcqeoHGywo

A very, very unfavorable day for being in North Wales, not my typical driving conditions. All in a great experience, and an eye opener for how much work goes in to making a short production.

A bleak not-so-look-out point waiting for the guys early in the morning.

Lots of hanging around, keeping warm in on one of the PH staff cars drinking coffee whilst filming was going on. Apparently its not all coke, hookers and redbull.

Despite the mixed conditions of drizzle, fog and wind, an extremely talented (and damp) Harry Rudd managed to capture some fantastic shots.
I enjoyed the tracking part, following the camara car, even dodging grit as well as I could eek
All photos are from Harry, no credit can be taken for these. Very pleased to have them as a memento of the day.

Thanks PH for featuring the car.

Back to the end of the update. Car got a spring blast out, with he roof off and now all set for a C-Service this week at Phoenix.

Photo from Easter weekend.
