biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin IT'S BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Picked it up earlier today and, after a few nervous moments trying to remember how my car actually worked (it's been 19 Months since I last drove it) and making sure it was all taxed, had AA cover etc I finally took it out for a quick 50 mile spin. However with the Methanol/Water mix being 19 months old and having none at Unit20 I took it easy until I could get back home and replace the old meth mix with new but even at 1/2 throttle it's still surprisingly quick.

So next up is a trip back to Unit20 for a "post 500 mile" check next week just to make sure everything is spot on after such a massive rebuild, plus it'll be back at Unit20 in the Autumn (while I'm back in Saudi) to finish off the suspension refresh as the metal DRC pipework is corroded to buggery and needs replacing yet there's none available at the moment. Currently the struts are still unchanged until the pipes are ready.

I've also booked a trip to MRC next week for a map tweak for more torque but I'll ask them to look at the top end as there was evidence of the cylinders running just too hot even with Water injection etc after 10k miles of 900+hp so I'll get the top end dropped a little (around 870-880ish) just to be safe.

I'm glad you are thinking about this, it must be really needed. I can live in hope of someday getting used to tidal waves of torque and needing more!

biggrin

Well to be fair it's more a "post rebuild with new rings making a better vacuum, cooler plugs, a check of the water injection system, pull back the top end a little and just generally have a look at the health" tweak but more torque is always nice! biggrin

Originally mine was already mapped with much lower torque than the other 900hp RS6's around as another owner had just popped their gearbox as mine was being mapped and I wasn't sure if the full 1200nm+ of torque was the issue. However since the mapping we've found out the cause of the failed GB (driver related) so mine was always going to get the correct torque mapped back in at some point.

It's kind of just sat there outside my sisters terrace house for now so kind of pointless but I'll get a few nice ones at some point over the next 10 days, although I've no longer got a DSLR which is a shame.

Has no one sorted the intercooling out on these yet? I thought I had seen one car with chargecooler (air to water) mounted where the stock intercoolers where.

Obviously need a decent sized heat exchanger mounted in front of the rad.

Chargecoolers are very ineffcient once they saturate. And usually do not flow anywhere near as good.

Yes it's all about sizing them correctly and getting as much low temp rad (aka heat exchangers) as you can! Remember ally of the heat is dumped back into the intake once you let off.

Re flow, well that's not true! Air to water setups tend to flow better as they have thinner water passages (so more hot air passages for any given size) than air to air coolers. Have a look at https://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/inte... to see what size air to water core will support 1000bhp compared to the air to air core!

I've not got a V-Box but a similar 10hz GPS based timing system with separate piece of software and a 10hz GPS puck (same speed as V-Box) and I've only got these figures from when it was 735hp, once it was 900+ it all felt a bit irrelevant TBH biggrin -

1/4 mile run with the traction left on by mistake so poor 0-60mph but great acceleration from 100-200kph.

The only 1 mile run I've recorded, great start but the wind wasn't playing and was right in my face so a whole second slower at 100-200kph than the run above which was done on a fairly still day.

Monstrously quick! Not much to worry you out there!

What's the software / puck you use?

Its a QStarz BT-Q818XT 10hz GPS puck (uses Bluetooth so can be left on the roof etc) and a really old version of the RaceChrono software - The newer Android version doesn't have performance tests as it's more of a laptimer now hence the older Symbian phone to run it which is a massive shame as the functionality and customisations allowed are amazing - you can set your own Xmph to XXXmph limits, your own distance times etc completely as you want, not via a preset setup!
