Brilliant. I had an xsi years ago. Diablo red, 1.6 8v. I had it lowered in bilstein suspension, went through various sets of wheels, various exhausts and had a hell of a lot of fun in it. Will be interested to see how this progresses.
You didnt used to go out with a lass called glenda in aberdeen did you?

No, I'm from Lincolnshire, never even been to Aberdeen.

I don't think anyone's dated someone called Glenda since 1947, have they?

Picked this little beauty up at the Post Office this morning:

Hi Dom,
Hope the cam is OK. The xsi is the lost Escort Mexico - no one realised that they were less mexicos produced than the RS 2000 and that the Mexico was the better car, no one realises that the Xsi was better than the Rallye and there are fewer Xsi's than Rallyes. And because the XSi was more available, people have the love for them.

Hi Ian - good to have you on board!

I'm looking forward to this; no PAS or ABS... proper old school!

One day this modification will probably look like sacrilege but I honestly can't wait to get it finished!

Intake manifold coming off tomorrow and injectors and ICV will be sent off for cleaning and a refresh ahead of the engine rebuild and S1 Rallye inlet (in the post this weekend) modifications!

There is a blue 106 XSi on eBay at the moment!

It's a bit dented and rusty but it is a 1.6 (not sure that's better), which might be fun!

I pulled the throttle body off today to try and get to the ICV and then decided the whole inlet manifold would have to come off... So I put it all back together, walked back inside and watched Deadpool with my stinking hangover!

Cam on its way, S1 Rallye Inlet Manifold should be coming this weekend and a few, small bits (new ecu cover, new plastic cambelt cover, black wheel bolts) have arrived.

Oh, and a "106 XSi" logo boot mat!

A few of the sensor plugs in the engine bay looked a bit the worse for wear and there seemed to be the odd rogue wire so that could all do with tidying up.

Else, still progressing... albeit slowly today!

I had one a few years ago, absolutely loved it. Great fun to drive.

Eventually sold it on after having had the diff give up and put a hole in the gearbox casing. Had a lot of trouble finding a good genuine XSi replacement box.

The MA gearbox isn't the strongest, sadly frown

To me, my car has to have the Quaife ATB and I may drop a VTR 5th gear in, for motorway journies.

Interestingly, the XSi 'box is very rare but there always seem to be the (slighter shorter) S1 Rallye 'boxes available.

Perhaps I'll pick one of those up, drop in the Quaife and longer 5th and sell the XSi 'box.

The rust worries me otherwise I'd have had it last time it was up for sale (recently). If the top is bad, what's the bottom like?

Having said that; boots etc are common so that may be able to deal with.

Hopefully get my S1 Rallye Inlet soon, then i'll design various little bits and bobs to get it running with the XSi management!

Also getting the rocker cover done in Honda VTEC crackle red, which should set the engine bay off!

Had one of these a generation ago !
K911UFK.
Did 45k in it and modified it a bit. At the PGAC RR day it was pumping out a mighty 102bhp !
I fitted a strut brace some cobra bucket seats in black and blue, blue seatbelts and a black and blue snap off quick release steering wheel.

With no rear seats and a de cat it was a bit noisy !

I think your a brave man putting an old one back to former glory. They were like the 1.3 Rallye OK in their day but nah I wouldn't go back there.

Nah - I want some noise and drama for 30mins a day

Have the V8 barge for comfort and the Clio V6 for everything else!

They won't make cars like this ever again - someone has to save 'em!

Nice to see someone else working on a 106 XSi. I've had mine for years and she's finally getting some love and attention. She's already had a head skim, new valves / guides, belts, head gasket and all the service parts replaced. Oh and a fair bit of welding / replacement brake lines.

This weekend saw the drivers side wheels taken to be refurbished, and then fitted with a set of Yoko W Drive winter tyres. While the drivers side was up in the air, cleaned up both inner wheel arches, applied some Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80, then a couple of coats of POR15. Then replaced the drivers side track rod end and drop link.

Hopefully will get the wheels back mid week, so I can get the other pair off and do the same on the passenger side next weekend.

After that, will clean up under the boot, then it's just put the exhaust back on, lights back on, bumpers back on and work out why the handbrake only operates on one side.

Should be finished by the end of the summer!! But I've said that before wink

Get some pics up, Guiness - Always good to see another one smile

S1 Rallye Manifold is in the post. Think I'll be 3D printing an adaptor for the XSi throttle body.

Think I am happy with how everything connects up and what I want to do with my hoses etc.

As soon as I'm happy with the inlet manifold/ management etc - will pull the engine for rebuild biggrin

I bought a standard 106 Rallye 1.3 8V last year.

As you've already mentioned, the XSi shares the same head as the Rallye; the Rallye just had a different cam with a marginally more aggressive profile.

I have spent a bit of money in the right places and it runs like an absolute dream.

It's just sailed through it's MOT with no advisories, so looking to spend a bit of money on some tasteful modifications this year. The first stop is likely to be a suspension overhaul and I'll follow that with brakes and an exhaust.

Love your XSi!

Thanks chaps - These cars seem to get a lot of love on here, which is great!

To be honest Tom; I'd be spending money to keep a Rallye standard and in tip top condition, I think.

I do like a standard, special edition and they're probably appreciating everyday at the moment.

I know people will call me boring but, as mentioned before on this thread, that's the exact reason I went for an XSi (certainly not appreciating at Rallye rates) and a cheap one needing saving at that.

Someone will always want a good Rallye, I am not sure people will always be looking for a ropey XSi biggrin

Still, my Clio V6 has only done 950 miles so I am not a shining example of 'using' cars as intended. But, I took on this project to remedy that smile

Looking at How Many Left we have half as many XSI's than Rallyes out there, I think they will begin to appreciate of their own accord over time!
