Appreciate it might be a bit far but you'd be very welcome.

'Replica' wheels finally fitted, just the 8 months after first ordering them!

They have a 10mm greater offset then the originals due to the construction, the wheels still fit well within the arches but when getting out of the car the position of the front wheel is quite noticeable.

Yet to travel at any significant speed with them, that will have to wait for now.

Touch lower offset pretty much always makes a car look better. Weird to see the Rotiform design actually fitted to an M1.

Did a run on the A1M Tuesday evening, slight vibrations over 60mph.  Fearing that the two original wheels might have been slightly bent along with the two that were replaced,  I had the wheels Road Force Balanced, the nearest machine is in Midlesborough which is 45 miles away!

There was a slight run-out on one of the wheels, but only 0.45mm, most of the problem was with the tyres and original balancing.  Having rotated 3 of the 4 tyres and re-balanced all 4 wheels all but one were within the tolerance of the balance machine and the 4th was just slightly high.  Definitely much much better on the way back, although obviously I did no more than 70mph.

Put in some fuel, as the near invisible warning light was well and truly on, lots of fuel!

The most I've every got in in one go, although in theory I should have had nearly 20 litres left in the tank.  I'll have to let it run out with a Jerry can in the foot well at some point (I'd not like to risk it in the boot, not sure I'd like a can of hot petrol in there!!).

I'm sure no-one would have assumed anything more. wink

Saw a nice white i8 on the ''show us your BMW'' thread and was wondering what M1 wheels would look like on it?

90 litres, nice! Great way to keep your journey going if you don't have to stop for fuel every couple of hours at full speed!

Thanks for that. I think they look great! It's a shame BMW didn't do it themselves as a nod to the awesomeness that went before.

Great thread op, just spent an hour reading.
Lovely car, I too remember the car at L&G in T.Wells, spent a few evenings with nose pressed against the window looking at it, even though it was a 35 mile drive each way to see it.
Now I don't know how true it is but over the years I've heard on a couple of occasions that the owner of L&G couldn't get hold of an M1 when they came out and built his from BMW parts.
How true that's is? But it was a good tale back in the day.

I notice you filled it with regular unleaded. Wouldn't super unleaded be required?

Didn't look like regular unleaded to me? If so it's bloomin expensive.

Never put anything but super unleaded in, so far only ever V-Power or V-Power Racing in Germany. With the increased compression ratio I'd not want to risk anything with lower than 99 Octane.

Silverstone classic at the end of July is the furthest south I'm planning on at the moment.
I look forwards to seeing it down there.

Finally got round to catching up on the thread. I really like the replacement wheels, anyone not familiar with an M1 would never notice! Not as nice as the originals, but anything to be able to drive it properly smile

Yes, sorry I misread the pump display. What misled me was the other V-Power for 129.9 - what is that?

What's the highest octane fuel you can get in the UK?

V-Power is 99, Tesco Supper is also 99. Most of the other premium unleaded is 98. BP used to have one or two stations that did 102 at very high price, but I don't know if they still do it.

AFAIK there is no point in using anything over 99 except in a race engine designed for it specifically.
