Very exciting.
And I wonder what "delivery miles" would mean in this context. Not being cheeky about the boat trip. I'm referring to the actual odometer in your car.
For example: a new car on a dealership lot, stateside, might have three miles on the odometer. Or five.
Of course, this figure doesn't really mean anything. But I am curious. It's not every day that somebody orders a spec-built car, has it packed up, and shipped across the world.
I'm in Australia and I asked this and they said when it turns up next year it'll be on between 30-60km as 'delivery mileage'. Apparently on and off the boats a few times to get here adds the I'd but I still can't see how so many. I'm looking forward to seeing it the day it arrives at the dealers and then how many get on the clock once it arrives before deliveryAnd I wonder what "delivery miles" would mean in this context. Hello, 'tis me - the purveyor of your finest sheddy sheds, not so sheddy Volvos and incredibly expensive, yet ultimately slow, Alfa Romeos....
What I have done this time? An early mid-life crisis, that's what!
Hand on heart with sensible head on, this probably wasnt the best time to be doing such a thing, but for various complicated (and very, very important) tax reasons, if I wanted to buy a decentish car with big engine then now was the time. Strictly before August 2017 is the time, but with uncertain delivery times and the Dutch DVLA working at a glacial pace, I didnt want to miss the deadline and have sorted myself out well in advance.
To be honest, I didnt quite know when to start this thread, but seeing as things are on the move - now seems reasonably appropriate.
So, the car, what is it?
2016 5.0 GT.
Coupe
Manual transmission
Magnetic Metallic
Saddle Brown leather
Heated/cooled seats
Parking sensors
Navi
Shaker 9 speaker system
Basically, I didnt want the custom pack (as I want Brown leather), so its all the individual options from the CP, with the bonus (IMO) of black wheels and no chrome details around the windows.
I ordered on the 26th January this year and was told to expect delivery in late September (June Build). And that was that. I sold my Volvo, made some financial planning, bought (and crashed) a Mazda and settled in the for long haul.
Then, last week, quite out of the blue I received an email from the dealer saying the car was built on March 3rd and I should expect delivery in June! Thrilled (but also a little peeved) that the car will be here early. Only peeved as because I have sold and bought other cars based on a September delivery, but hey-ho, here we go!
Some emails and phone calles revealed a VIN:
1FA6P8CF9G5294215
and that meant I could load up my window sticker and ETIS page. Everything checks out spec-wise in comparison to what I ordered. Phew!
So after being built on 03 March, it seems like the car arrived in Baltimore mid-March, and was yesterday assigned a ship. The Wallenius Wilhelmsen Figaro. Loading is due 5th April with ETA in Zeebrugge on about 25th April
Its easy to track the car via the WW tracking portal:
And using vessel finder I can follow the boat. As of last night steaming up the Eastern Seaboard off Florida:
This is approx what the car will look like:
After arriving in Zeebrugge, its an approx. 6 week wait for it to get to the dealer! Customs, undersealing, prep etc. So current ETA for collection is mid-June.
Plans:
Immediate:
- Diode dynamics LED side markers to replace the nasty orange ones
- Gas struts for the bonnet
- Some kind of better front plate mounting system and a 'mini' front plate
- Alarm upgrade and tracker system
ASAP:
- Fruity exhaust - current thinking is a Borla or a Corsa touring. My ultimate preference would be the new Borla Active system, but at over €3k its a pisstake.
Near future:
- Front and rear light conversion to US spec (tri-bar DRL and sequential turn)
- CAI
- Remap
- Use OEM wheels as winter set, and a different (better!) set of 19s or 20s for summer use
Long term:
- Supercharging (easily 5+ years down the line)!
This is/will be a pretty special car for me. It will be my last 'nice' car for a very long time. I plan to keep it for a minimum of 10 years, perhaps a lot longer. It will be my daily car, it will need to undertake family duty quite often. Ill rack up 20,000km per year in it, in all weathers. It had better put a bloody big smile on my face!
What I do know is that it will be a very special car here in NL. My order is the first (and currently still the only) V8 car ordered in the whole country. There are 6 grey import V8 cars on the road here on Dutch plates, but no privately ordered EU spec customer cars. The dealer-demo I drove is the only one available in the country to try.
Why?
The price: for a normal punter the V8 Coupe is €120k. Due to those complicated tax reasons I mentioned earlier, I can have one for €35k OTR! No one is mental enough to spend €120k on a Mustang, so unless a colleague of mine buys one, ill be the only EU spec V8 Mustang on the road in NL.
FWIW: The dealer experience was/is stty. Ford should be ashamed. They very nearly put me off entirely and I came *this* close to buying a Camaro SS in January. I think in the end ill be happy that I persevered with the Mustang.
Excited is not the word. Its proper dreams come true stuff for me.
Ill update when there's more to tell!
I think i may have just done a teensy sex wee!!

Ordered the Steeda Tower Brace and bonnet Gas Struts today.
On offer from Steeda via the Mustang6G forums for 15% off and free UK postage. Made for a total price of £310. Will pick them up when I am in the UK at the end of May.
Tracking the car is frustrating at the moment; with it being an EU car I dont think ill see any more updates via the WW portal, its more a case of waiting to see when it turns up at the dealer. Going on recent delivery times from other UK 6G members, that means it could feasibly show up at the dealer as early as next week. Seeing as I still havent got the necessary paperwork from him, that means itll be sat there for a good while.
Via word of mouth ive found a good alarm installer here in NL for the tracker. Its mandated by the insurance company and theres no way around it. Ive to wait and see whether the dealer will let the installer do the work on their premises, or if ive to take the car to the alarm place on the day I pick it up. Install price is +/-€700, and its a yearly fee of €215 for the tracking services.
Ive been trying to shop around a bit on the insurance front, but its proving difficult as the company im currently with are the only ones ive (thus) found thatll insure a car on the special tax-free plates. Most dont want to know. If the car were on normal plates id be looking at about €90 per month with the cheapest competitor - as it is, ill be paying around €135 per month with my current company. Ive also (frustratingly) found out that the car wont qualify for the Return To Invoice cover that comes as std. for the first 3 years as it covers to a maximum invoice value of €115,000. My invoice is for €115,500. Instead in a case of a total loss ill be paid out the daily value, plus 10%.
Additionally, here is a pic from a member on the 6G forums running his car wit the rear light vinyl set that ive bought. Looks rather spiffy!
Can't you get them to reinvoice you for €114999 and then provide an invoice for €501 for say one of the costs seperately? On offer from Steeda via the Mustang6G forums for 15% off and free UK postage. Made for a total price of £310. Will pick them up when I am in the UK at the end of May.

What an incredible purchase & thank God it worked out tax free for you! The list price, with the tax, is ridiculous!

Im hoping to arrange 'something', but a lot will depend on whether the insurance company use catalogue RRP, or actual invoice.....
I'd think it would be actual invoice.Really enjoyying this thread and please the car should be with you (fairly!) soon. I've a Focus RS on order, but were it not for me wanting to be able to fit my son's car seat and associated stuff in the car, I may well have gone with one of these instead.
One quick point: I was out in the US a couple of months ago and saw a fair few of these on the road. Obviously the Euro-spec halogen DRLs are somewhat less attractive than the US-market ones, but one thing of note is that the cars I saw in America with the LED DRLs in the headlamps seemed to be pretty dim compared with what what we would expect of a DRL in Europe. They looked like what we would call sidelights, really, and certainly not on the level of brightness the European Mustang will have.

So how does this car buying for next to nothing work, and why such a wait until you can drive it?
The tax regime for car purchases in NL is incredibly high, particularly for engines with a high CO2 output. The tax is called BPM and I dont know the exact formula used to work it out, but its along the lines of"acceptable price x2 + arse reaming x7 + laughable extra charge for no reason. On the Mustang its €67k".
Through my employer I have an exemption from paying the BPM tax and any VAT.... its not a common exemption with perhaps 500 people in the country with it..... bully for me! So that how I get it cheaply.
As part of the registration process on to the special plates I have to provide some documents, one of them being the Certificate of Conformity to prove its legal in the EU. Its doesn't matter that it was bought and ordered via an NL dealer, they still want the paperwork. So thats what I am waiting on. Once I provide it, it takes the Dutch Gubbernment about 4 weeks to process it and give me a lovely yellow set of number plates
And why yellow numberplates?
