I love these, it'd have to be blue though.

Lazer Blue is the colour of the name, me thinks.

Drove to work this morning (which is rare) and the car was spot on. The gearbox is a perfect compromise, ideal for commuting, yet still excellent when pushing on. The ride, which I was concerned about, is acceptable. Its not smooth, but is compliant and a good compromise. The turning circle is a bit shocking, makes parking tricky!

The best bit however is the noise....the howl cloud9. I don't think I'll ever get bored of putting my foot down and people looking around to see what car is making the epic noise, only to see a silver fridge screaming down the road. So much fun.

I had a silver 03 plate manual V70 R with the dark blue leather, bought it at 3 years old from Volvo with 20K miles and ran it for 4 years upto 80K miles , it was no trouble whatsoever and only ever paid out for servicing. Great car and used to grip well In the wet, sounded nice too. Steering lock was terrible though and quite juicy for the performance but none the less a great car and if I wanted a cheap performance car that was practical well I don't think you could beat one really for the money but then I love my Volvos !

Hope you enjoy it.

I've had a ton of T5 engined Volvos over the years and completely agree with you, there really is something incredibly addictive about that 5-pot warble, especially with a slightly more vocal exhaust. Sounds like you've got a good-un there, fingers crossed.

I almost bought a nicely modified S60R a couple of years back but dithered a little too long and someone else snapped it up. They're really good daily drivers and something a bit different from the norm which is always nice, especially if someone else has sorted out the big bills.

Looking forward to following this one smile

More good news. Contacted the Volvo garage who have looked after the car and they advised the cambelt was changed at 108000, in 2011. Good for another 5 years or 50k.

I still miss my V70R
I feel the same still about the gta I had, but think this might fill the void. Why did it go?
A coupe of reasons, the fear of a big bill and a need for improved fuel economy

I replaced it with a S320 cdi Mercedes that I wrote off last December.

I replaced that with a BMW 545 Touring, sod the economy!

First little job undertaken. It seems most volvos eat their top engine mount, as this is the second I've done.

This one was a bit harder, had to remove the intake pipe to get the cover off to the undo the remaining bolt in the mount. Took just over an hour, including 2 cups of coffee. Could be done in about half hour I think second time round.

First, remove the intake. There are a couple of visible bolts, plus a weird T27 clamp behind the engine.

This let's you undo the cover to the coil packs, and the hidden engine mount bolt.

No need to remove the strut brace, can be done with it in place. I covered the open access to the intake just in case I had butter fingers...

Then put it back together, only fiddly bit is getting the weird clamp shut again

All done and now a nice stable engine.

Honestly, not much. The dog guard won't stay up as the struts are shot, the alloys need a refurb as they are pealing in places and have been curbed, the seats are a bit tired and could do with a really good clean, and I can't remove the detachable tow bar at the moment.

The car is a real credit to the previous owners. It was a demo car at the start, then owned by a guy who ran it for about 10 years. He had the awd fixed (£1100) then sold it to the guy I purchased it from (both lived in Bookham nr Guildford)

He never used anything other than comfort, and didn't know how to use the manual shift (apparently) but had to have the box repaired at the end of 2015, for a cost in excess of 2k. He was selling as his wife had ms and needed to get a mobility car. He was a really genuine chap, lived in a lovely house in a really nice area, you could just tell it was going to be a good one as we arrived. Fingers crossed it will be.

So to the previous owners, I owe you one.

Such impressive cars.

I've had my S80 2.0t auto now for around 18 months and despite having to do a few jobs (upper engine and gearbox mounts, gearbox sump dumps, PCV system, TCV, hoses, brakes & shoes, brake position sensor, cam belt kit, spring seats, general servicing etc etc) it's really cost next to nothing as parts are so readily available and there are so many 'how to's' on youtube.

All in I've got a comfortable, safe, reliable, barge for peanuts and with 154k on the clock it's probably got years left in it. I do kind of wish I'd waited for a 2.4t/2.5t to get a few extra horses, but the 2.0t engine seems to pull pretty well for what I use it for and (according to the computer) I recently averaged 38mpg to Liverpool (although I do question its accuracy).

Is it the 'R' engine that suffers from fractured cylinder liners? Although at 154k you'd have already expected them to have failed so maybe they're already done?

Awesome motor though! I'm only 50% jealous smile

The interior is Sissal and off black, it was only available for a year or two I believe and I have it in my '04 MY T5. I like it, it's not as dismal as the all black and not as awful as the beige with beige dash and door tops.

Headlight wipers are great, they keep the lights clean much more effectively than the modern squirt only systems and use much less fluid doing it. They probably don't work on a 2004 car though.

Best of luck with it!
I had an 04 S60 and the wipers worked a treat including great flow from the nozzles!

Oh how I wish my s60 was an estate. Sadly was near on double the price but this with the R bits just looks proper.

Guess I'll have to keep both of mine now

My second car was an S60, and ever since I got rid of it last year I've wanted a S60/V70 R. Volvos seem to really get under your skin in a good way. Fingers crossed I'll have one sooner rather than later!

I agree with that, was fond of the xc70 I had, but this is on another level. I'm genuinely concerned what I'll replace it with if and when I decide to.

They get under your skin. There is a bit of humour in a Volvo with 300bhp. People do not expect you to pass them in a sedate Volvo.

I replaced mine with a 545 bmw, but it is not the same
