So, after running the M5 for 2 years I randomly went out and chopped it in for a Type-R.

I wonder how this will end.

Anyway it's a GT packed one so it has all of the jazzy cameras and anti pedestrian death things.

It's a lot slower in a straight line than the BMW, obviously, but it feels about twice as fast 99% of the time, and like you're going to die, a lot.

I extended the warranty to 5 years for £250, 5 years servicing was £555, on a run I'm getting 42mpg and generally it gets about 28mpg.

It almost instantly had a Pipercross panel filter put on which makes the induction noise a lot better, which is nice because the car seems almost silent out of the back.

Quite a contrast in purchase compared to the M5. What made you go for one?

^ those sort of links can cause endless restlessness until a decision is made & depletion of your wealth, but they're worth it. What did we do before the Internet? scratchchin

Cheers guys.

To be honest I wasn't looking for one.

I went out on a cars day with D4MJT, we went to look at an RS Focus, the Golf R, AMG things, and the Honda, mainly to laugh at it to be honest.

Now, I'm known to poke fun at Honda, and FWD, and Turbos. But as soon as I drove the car I was sold.

It's worlds apart from the M5, both in build, and power, but not in fun.

Now, what's strange is the reaction, I expected a lot of hate, obviously on the internet, that's a given, but in the real meat based world. Most people love it, and people comment on it, to me, in person. Now that's fine if you like people, but I'm not really a fan of the general public, I think I had about 2 people talk to me about the M5 in 2 years, and to me that was the tits compared to the civic.

Anyway, I'll keep this thread updated with my usual ownership ramblings.

I may pop in to Honda this week and see if my rear wing is on upside down, because it's not the best, amazingly.

This is sooo making me want one of these. As a Honda owner albeit it only a 1.8 petrol I love Honda as a company and their cars are just unbelievably reliable and comfy to sit in.

Once i've got the house renovations out of the way I think a trip to the Honda garage is in order which will probably be when the new type r comes out at this rate!

Anyway great buy and glad you like it! Keep us updated!

I sooo want one, I owned an ep3 then a few years later the FN2. I did test drive the new one and almost came to a point of putting a deposit but then went out and bought a motorbike...

Randomly I've not missed the M5 at all, and the missus now doesn't think I'm having an affair with the girl at the local petrol station.

My commute is mainly A1 with a sprinkling of the 1231 and I'm averaging north of 40mpg still in each direction, what's interesting is that spirited motorway driving still returns 30, and a jaunt to Hartside is 25mpg, witchcraft.

Since I hadn't really payed any attention to what I was buying I was pleasantly surprised when I came to fold the rear seats down, it doesn't have the Honda "Magic" seats that slide back and forth, but due to the rear seats being some sort of comedy bench, when you fold the back down, the base drops, so the boot floor is flush with the now horizontal seat backs, it's a bloody Tardis! I got a full set of 19" BBS CH in it no bother at all.

I'm even starting to like the outside of it a bit.

Myself and D4MJT have been to Hartside in the car twice so far, this time it was another amazingly sunny day and we carried on to Penrith before following the same roads back, if I could get to the point where I drove the FK2 the same way we can drive the VTS it would be mind blowingly fast. I keep baking off the throttle, but I'm making more of an effort to keep the boost constant, I'm sure I'll get the hang of it again. Mandatory Hartside photo as expected.

The handling is superb in standard mode, however in +R it's borderline unusable on those roads, it's bad enough on urban roads. Now this is a bit annoying as the improved throttle response and fettled torque map and weightier steering are superb, if only you could pick and choose like the BM, argh!
