Vauxhall Corsa 'D' VXR Nurburgring Edition
Discussion
@HJMS123 Grasshopper Green does appear to be quite a rare colour on the Nurburgring's, it's a good colour though, had my eye on a few but, on condition ended up in my Chilli Orange example. Are they really that bad at wearing ? :0 I'll be keeping my eye on them then, i'll be happy with 10-12k out a set tbh, although i did read a few regarding them on the FK2 CTR only getting like 5k but didn't read to much into it.
@Beehub Cheers, i'am glad you think so, on page 1 at the top i've got another thread with my whole Hot Hatch car history on it if you fancy a read... It's good to have although it does involve some planning on travelling to meet up and have a drive. I've met most though car forums.
@The1Driver They really do look good still after all these years! I've grown to like the new VXR Corsa's, they do drive so much nicer believe it or not. My Dad's thinking of getting one next year! age is just a number and all that...
Now yesterday the replacement N/S AFL Headlight turned up,
AFL by Michael Smith, on Flickr
And was promptly fitted,

And it all works as it should. Now with that done had a look around the old one to see if there was anything broken that we could see,

As you can see the Wire has snapped, years of wear and tear have taken its toll.

Bit of an update, and to cut the long story short my Drivers side Brembo Caliper has failed, i had my suspicions for a few weeks that it was on its last legs with various symptoms. Anyhow bought 2x new Brembo Calipers and the ones that arrived where the ones fitted to the Performance Packed Corsa E VXR's
Brembo by Michael Smith, on Flickr
All that's different is the Carrier/Spacer or whatever its called that allows it to use 330mm Discs.

Above Carrier for the E Corsa VXR with Performance Pack with 330mm Discs

Above Carrier for the D Corsa Nurburgring & Clubsport with 305mm Discs
Quite a difference tbh!
So instead of messing around trying to swap Carriers over i bit the bullet and bought the 330mm whoppers instead

Nice difference, and it'd be rude not to fit from HEL Hoses

Manged to fit the Passenger side fine,

Nice and easy, now the Drivers side, hmm it all seemed to be going according to plan until the last few threads and it just kept spinning and spinning and fear of losing all my Brake fluid i nipped it back up and i'll attempt it tomorrow once i top up the Fluid! and hopefully Bleed them all. Failing that i'll refit the OE Hose on the Passenger side and go from there.

Still had problems with the Drivers side Hose so in fear of knackering it up completely, this morning refitted both the OE Hoses back and bleed the Brakes.

Only been around the block as they need 'bedding' in but i can tell the difference straight away! Love it
So to recap, my Nurburgring has the Remus Back-Box from the Corsa E VXR and now the Brembo Calipers and the 330mm Discs from the Performance Pack Corsa E VXR.
Next up i really want the Alloys a refurbed and the Rear Calipers painted. Just under 38k on the clocks now.
Thanks

The B6255 the lovely piece of b-road that runs from Ingleton to Hawes, i’ve thrown all my cars down it in the past as it’s a good test of a car but never the Corsa, so today decided it was time to do just a thing!
The ‘Burg was great to a point the LSD and the upgraded Brembo’s and bigger Discs were formidable and still amazed me, really can cover ground at quite an alarming rate for a humdrum Corsa
But the car was a little to stiff to fully exploit on the bumpy B6255 which was frustrating and had me questioning wether I’d have been having more fun in a slower softer hatch, like a Swift Sport or something. Still enjoyed it though, it’s more 7/8-10ths car on that road.
Apart from that it’s comfortably coming up to the 40k mark now :O Still reliable as can be. Oh and went into Vauxhall on Friday for a recall on the Handbrake.
Cheers

Well. Over the weekend i made an attempt the fit the new Suspension Top Mounts as i was convinced that they was the root of all the problems i’ve had for over 12 months believe it or not. (Had symptoms of Loose Steering, Clunking when turning left or right, also when braking and accelerating and generally feeling pretty rubbish)

First things first being me, once I’d took the Wipers and the x2 Scuttle Panels off I give them and surrounding areas a good clean.

Looks a lot better, who knew it’s done over 40k now :O Plus was amazing at how grubby it was! The drain hole was blocked with crap, so was pleased i got it done.
Anyways back to the Top Mounts, i did took the Drivers Side Shock out first and what greeted me was this,

A lovely snapped Spring. Fantastic. That was the route of my problems, now the issue was trying the find a replacement Spring, VX wanted £350! I didn’t really want to spend £600+ on a complete new B12 Kit so someone on Instagram who has a Clubsport pointed me in the direction of Eurocarparts as they sell Sachs Lowering Springs front and rear for the Nurburgrings/Clubsports and are cheap! Well £219 for the lot, but i used the discount code and the priced dropped to £142.
Fitted them along with the new Top Mounts and all is well. Infact i can’t believe the difference it’s made. The Steering has more feel and resistance, so much more direct and when booting it there’s no pulling like as if the tracking is out and same as when braking and on the motorway it feels planted and not floaty like it used to do, the damping is so much better. It’s like a Nurburgring should feel i guess, all in all a job well done.
I will do the rears when i can be fussed, just the know that they are all the same.
Fixed by Michael Smith, on Flickr
As far as i can tell the ride height is pretty much near as dammit as before.
Cheers 😊

Took it in for its MOT Test this morning. Always a nervous time even though you know your own car. Well it passed with zero Advisories, current mileage 41094.
That’s 26745 miles covered since i picked it up in August 2016 with a mere 14349 showing. Well it’s been very enjoyable and mostly reliable, bar a AFL Headlight, a snapped Spring and a failed Brembo Caliper. It’s been driven hard, but with mechanical sympathy, used as daily driver and unleashed on the B-Roads when the mood takes me, it’s only ever ran on 99 Ron Fuel and serviced every 10k and will be some again next week probably.
No sign of P4 or the ‘box shatting itself anytime soon. *touch wood*
Cheers 😊

Nice updates! Shame about the spring, bet that has made it a pig to drive!!
It was awful, noticed it more trying to drive in a straight line on the motorway, was always correcting the steering wheel which was frustrating! Got quite a few things in the pipe line i want to do to it. Nothing major, just basically Polybush what i can and fit new Inner and Outer Tie Rods, Short-Shifter and Gearbox Mount. Just keep it fresh, tight and future proof and i so want to get it on Track! We’ll see in due course..
Time for a few updates. Gave it a service a few weeks back, mileage at the time was 42024
Along with that i bought and fitted some new Eibach Pro Springs as the Sachs ECP specials ended up being horrible once they bedded in, they were quite bouncy and soft.
So far the car feels like it supposed to do.
It's also booked into the bodyshop to get some mileage and age related issues sorted out. Can't wait.
Not far of 43k now. It'd cost me a pretty penny in the 2 years I've owned it! Still need the Alloys Refurbished and then Powdercoated and 4x Tyres.
Thanks
- Engine Oil & Filter
- Gearbox Oil
- Air Filter

Few updates.
The car went into the Body Shop a while back. It needed a few issues addressing as it was unfortunately victim of vandalism. Nothing serious but annoying no the less!
Anyhow a few pictures.
Obviously you can’t tell. But I’am more than happy! Looks just as good as when i first picked it up.
Along with that a fresh pair of Continental Sport Contact 5’s when on the front. Just under 45k now still earns it keep on the usual 30+ A/B-Road commute to work and back.

Not updated this for ages!
Well i finally got around the fitting the Remus repica center pipe around November last year and it sounds lovely now. Really compliments the nature of the car nicely. Subtle pops and bangs without being OTT.
https://youtu.be/4y68xvIMx1k
Not my car or video, but that’s what it sounds like.
Now today i gave it a service,
Done at 51913 miles to be precise, it still drive sweet as a nut so all is well. Also last week I got 2x front tyres fitted, nothing special, just Nankang NS-20’s as money is super tight as we’re saving hard for a mortgage. Life’s certainly fun and games.
But if i’am honest I’ve been quietly impressed with them as I’ve noticed they’re so much quieter than the Continentals were, grip and feel seem similar after a late night roundabout scrubbing in lol.

Nice car, never been a Vauxhall man but these 'ring editions have always caught my eye, especially in this colour
Thanks Yes they are genuinely a fabulous car and numbers are dewlinding day by day, and with all the handling upgrades they come with, it really takes it up a notch to complete with the period Clio 200 Cup and R56 Cooper GP and DS3 Racing of the more harder, track focused hot-hatches of the world. Compromised as a daily but sublime on a nice b-road.
