Absolutely loved my Series McRae in the snow... unless it was properly deep, it was unstoppable, even on regular tyres.

And it would drift forever... incredibly good fun biggrin

Thoroughly enjoyed reading that! Really satisfying to see a classic being kept in original condition. Love the fact that this one is used and maintained accordingly, not restored and stored.

Well done sir!

A very enjoyable read.

I wonder if you could find time to do an in-depth comparison between the Pedders suspension kit and the Bilstein/Eibach set up. I was wondering how you find the Pedders kit for everyday use? Did you opt for the std ride height replacement springs or the lowered option etc?

Lovely car OP, great thread too, with lots of regret from owners who sold theirs.

So I'll add to that, here's the RB5 I foolishly sold frown

They are amazing cars that still turn my head even today, if I hear the unmistakable sound of a boxer engine and see that it's not a classic Impreza I'm a little disappointed.

Keep it forever OP!

Very nice car! Had a very pleasant time reading your thread.

I'm not sure if this is the one I've seen in Woking 2 weeks ago on Saturday.
I live in Woking myself and have a dark blue, fully genuine, impreza turbo 2000....Without the WR sport pack though :/...

Do you know if the Prodrive suspension upgrade just consists of the dampers and springs or are the anti roll bars, drop links and bushes different as well?

Good work OP! Really good that you have really gone no expense spared with it and are keeping it all original.

I didn't even know there was a WR suspension pack.

Im on my second classic. Had an STi 2 and now a P1 which is far from standard which on one hand is a bit of a shame, on the other with 500bhp it excites me like nothing else!

I have pretty much finished with the mechanical work now so am planning to enjoy it this year and spend a bit of effort restoring it next year.

Glad I read this thread though as I know the suspension dilemma. I know I'm going to have to replace mine at somepoint, its still the original Bilsteins but they have such a brilliant ride on the road that I don't want to swap to solid aftermarket stuff either. So putting some other coils on and having the Bilsteins refurbed is a great idea.

Full update to follow but here’s a pic from yesterday after bringing to work on a fast 35 mile commute.

Hi, I found this thread and I know its old but It was a fantastic read. I was wondering if you still have the car? My husband and I bought a WR last year. It has the full PPP package and is one of the few that came direct from Prodrive with everything fitted. It is still pretty much standard. Previous owner I believe had the wheels powder coated but everything else is as it was. We have been to a couple of car shows and haven't been able to find any that are even close to what we have. Yours is though and it is a lovely car. Well loved and I really enjoyed what you have written about it. I was wondering if you still have the car? This is mine [url]

Wow, I hadn’t seen you’d reply. What a wonderful WR you’ve got!

Yes I’ve still got my one. It’s currently tucked away in the dry for winter.

I’m glad you enjoyed reading my thread and apologies for this late reply.

I hope you’re enjoying your WR.

I love this thread and this car, its an absolute credit to you. So refreshing to see one that's not had a crappy blow off valve or a super lairy exhaust.

Hope you continue to enjoy it smile

A lovely read and so nice to see a classic in good hands and being properly used.
I regret selling mine daily, but impending fatherhood forced my hand. I did begin a hunt for it a few years ago, but I thinks it’s now in France.
Mine had a similar history in that my Dad bought it new from Quenby’s in Baldock on retirement and it remained in his hands before he sold it to my best mate. I then bought it from him, I could vouch for every mile that car he done and the history certainly made it easy to sell.
It’s pictured here on the original wheels which were the winter set.
