2004 Volvo S60 D5 SE. Captain Slow's cheap Swedish adventure
Discussion
Fortunately the VED equivalent in Germany is nowhere near as punitive as it is in Holland so for the moment we'll keep our cars on German registration. We're also about to inherit a LHD car too that's already on a DE reg so there is no point altering its registration. My E90 daily (RHD) is proving unexpectedly reliable so it's not going anywhere - currently on 185k and I'm pretty sure it'll make 300k with regular servicing. But I digress!

I'd love to know if this is possible - I'd love a 6 speeder in mine.
I follow this thread so I can see what the captain buys so I can then do the same lol

Definitely another bargain with the wheels/tyres there!
Love the headlamp wipers on the S60. Always think the front of a Volvo is lacking without them.
Keep looking at the smaller S40 (2004 onwards model) as a potential next car. Seats look so comfy when trimmed in leather, very similar to the seats in this one.

Have attempted to sort out the discoloured/worn bumper plastics today.
All you need is a heat gun (so its for free!) and about 1hr work.
The results arent 100% perfect, but its a huge improvement for little investment.

So what did you do here - just take a mini blow torch, blast the bumper plastic for a while and it all came back to life?
Re. The bumper plastics. One thing which i tried on mine which works brilliantly is teak oil. It blackens them up excellently and lasts for a good length of time. Worked on my 2.0t and my dads D5. I can't recall the exact brand of oil as I'm not at home but it's definitely worth a shot. I found the heat gun treatment made it look blotchy after a few weeks. Worth a try!
How are you getting on with the Yatour module thing? I'm considering one for the Lexus as the OEM levinson system is ace however having to burn 700mb CD's so i can listen to music isn't so much, Also my OEM bluetooth is Sh*te. With these boxes do the steering wheel controls work?
On another note just out of interest, I'm insured with the same company as you, Does this mean I can SORN my car whilst its outside of the UK and keep using it? with the absence of the tax disc 300GBP ish a year seems like a waste of money

Filled it for the first time today.
658 miles for 69.58L = 42.99mpg.
The OBC was reading 48.5mpg, so the typical Volvo optimism!
Those figures come from cruising at about 80mph, with some much faster stretches mixed in, and quite a bit of stop-start city work too (got caught in a 90min jam at one point ).
So I reckon getting another 10% economy out of it over an average tank should be possible.
Its a bit bloody good, that.
I do similar driving 80-90mph cruise for a decent amount of time and i manage an OBC 52-53mpg. Took a while to loosen up as the previous keeper didnt give it the runs it needed. 658 miles for 69.58L = 42.99mpg.

Absolutely cannot rate these things highly enough!

I'd be curious to see what it works out to in real life. Mine would have struggled to average 40 mpg at that speed (OBC was optimistic as I mentioned many times when I had it), although it probably had other issues.Absolutely cannot rate these things highly enough!

Plenty of how-to's on the web, if your GoogleFu is up to much. In fact I think I have written one myself on PH in the past.
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=132...Gotcha. Nice writeup.
There are 1000x reasons why I prefer PH to YFGI when it comes to motor advice…
