Thanks for the advice, my wife's preferred spec would be auto and a convertible. The gearbox controls on the auto look to be the same as those on my 4c, is the gearbox essentially the same double clutch unit? If not is it pleasant to use as both a full auto and as a manual?

If any one is thinking of selling early in 2019, drop me a pm!
Unfortunately not a double clutch auto. It is a motorised manual which is not as quick or smooth thus most people prefering the manual version.

I'm pretty fussy when it comes to autos but tbh there are bigger compromises in the overal package than the OK auto. I can't drive my wife's unless using the paddles but wife gets on fine with it. It just isn't a ZF gearbox I've been use to in the past cars but it's still slot of fun.

Agreed, I did not say it is unusable, just not as good as a dual clutch unfortunately. My wife also prefers automatic cars and that's also an important reason why my 595 is a manual biggrin

So a brief update to my car:

I’ve hit 29,000miles and today I replaced the front tyres from Michelin Pilot Sport 3’s to PS4’s so about 15,000 miles from each set of PS3’s the rear tyres are still original and have 4mm left so I plan to replace them after the winter for the PS4’s.

The car is booked in for tracking this week at the wheel alignment centre in Southampton whose a genius and then it’s 3rd service is also booked in.

I can’t remember if I mentioned a noisy front passenger seat that I’ve lived with over the summer. I finally got round to taking a look and found a bolt had worked loose so some new thread lock and a tighten and all is good. I think that’s my first proper problem with the car that wasn’t related to servicing!

Not purchased as yet but did manage to get my hands on this

It was £80 for 4 days through Europe car.
Mrs p was far more impressed than I thought she would be and is now pretty insistent I get one.
As soon as the m3 is sold, I’ll be buying.
How did you get that?! 80 for 4 days in a 595 sounds a proper bargain!

I've just had one for £161 for 7 days with Europe car in Majorca. Auto but great fun in manual sport mode. I paid an extra 40 quid for full cdw elsewhere to avoid the excess.

The trick is to book online - hire for the cheapest fiat 500 on there (£10 per day). Then when you get there, they can give you an upgrade for an additional £10 per day.

Voila!

Basically, I saw that Europecar in Watford had 3 parked outside so thought id see how much they were to hire for the weekend - the mission of convincing mrs p - the guy there was overly helpful and told me what to do. I stood at the counter and booked it online (cheaper) and that was it.

The key is the upgrade - don’t do it unless you know they have some 595’s as you won’t be able to upgrade from the fiat. Which would miss the point completely.

So a very brief update on this. I’ve been quite bad at updating this thread with all the adventures I’ve been on.

So today 2 new Michelin PS4 tyres were fitted. So now the car all round has PS4’s fitted a nice improvement from the factory fitted PS3.

It was also MOT day as my car is now 3 years old. It passed with just a minor for a small chip in the windscreen which I’ve been hoping would crack so I could replace the screen rather than get it filled but no luck so far.

No eurotrip planned as of yet this year but I’m hopeful something will be planned at the last minute.

33,000miles now completed and still enjoy every minute behind the wheel even on the commute.

No idea what mine has on it tbh - they drive like runflats though.

Where did you get your PS4’s?

Apologies if this has been covered in the thread but how did you get on with servicing?

I’m looking at getting one but service schedules are every 6k miles? I don’t want to have to service twice a year!

Just jumping into your thread for a question if I may OP?

I'm 6'4" and rather than having 2 large cars we want an SUV and something small, so an Abarth fits the bill as I think they're awesome. How do you struggle with room? I see you mentioned the seats dont go up and down but I take it you can find a good comfy position? It'll be me driving it the most I'd imagine so it'll be good to hear your experience.

Not the OP but I'll share my experience. I'm 6'3 and have the Competizione with Sabelt seats fitted, I find it absolutely fine for both long and short drives. I'd advise taking one for a decent length test drive, or perhaps look at trying another owners if there's anyone willing to help? If you're in the North East I'd be happy to oblige.

Very kind offer, luckily we have a Abarth dealer locally so I'll enquire about an extended test drive. Sounds positive!

So...

Picking the car up now - total cost of work done under warranty: £1900.

New monza exhaust
Firmware update on the stereo. Which they charge £114 for oddly.

Just seeing if we can get the Apple CarPlay sorted.

Can not fault the service here at Glynn Hopkin St Albans.

I'm 6ft5, north of 18st and don't have a problem whatsoever in my one. Seat goes all the way back, so only my 11 y/o can sit behind me. TBH we rarely go out as a family in it as we've got the SUV for that but it is possible.

The only issue I've had is when I took it in to the supplying Dealer for a service. They offered me a standard 500 as a courtsey car that, having tried one, I knew I'd struggle to fit in properly. I ended up with with a MY69 Tipo, which was a POS and probably the worse car I've driven in years.

What was needed that cost £1900???

Presumably you bought the Monza exhaust yourself?

I haven't owned a 500 but I've sat in them a few times to try them for size as I'm 6'6" and I was looking for a small car. It was ok except for the back of my head just brushing the lower part of the headlining between the b pillars, it must be part of the roof structure, it's there on the solid roof and glass roof cars. I haven't sat in a 500C, I'm not sure if they have that bar across the roof.
