But for a stripped/semi-stripped car I'd go for CAE shifter! A true work of art! (also quite xpensive...)
Are these any good?

I've not heard from anyone who has one.
Theres a couple of guys on Boxa.net using them on Boxsters. Their cars are quite well modified aimed towards track days of course.
Is it just the same h pattern but more precise?

Looking at used gearboxes there seems to be a lot of 997 boxes available. Can the 997 box be be made to work in a 996?

It is H pattern. Can't tell you first hand about the feel as I've never tried it. You can find the specs and pics on the CAE website.

I tried to find out an decided "probably".

Bellhousing pattern looks the same, mounting the same.

You need the gear shift cables too as they are on the other side on that box. The ratios are a little different.

But I've never tried it or seen it done.

Still on route from Germany I believe. It left Germany on Monday according to the seller.

No idea. My chosen specialist told me they would contact me when it arrives. So far they have not contacted me.

Excellent and unexpected news! Are you picking it up today?

Dare I ask the bill?

Brace yourself....
Especially as the one that goes over the top of the gearbox.
Yeah that's what concerns me!

Mine cost me a tenner for some cupra nickel brake line, some fittings and an hour and a half of my time whilst the box was out.

New flexis too (under £10 each), one snapped caliper nipple (£54 for drill out and retap) and the job was done.

Clutch and flywheel (£sachs and LUK) £450, new sachs slave (£65) as the pin had worn and upgraded design 997 clutch release hardware (to stop squeaks and creaks) ~£70

Only took me about and hour and half to get my box back in on my back with the car on stands.

The AOS replacement, now that was annoyingly fiddly even with the box out.

No need to brace. Some people can get a new cupra nickel brake line over the box with it in situ.

Yeah the car feels great. I asked them to try to twiddle the KW adjusters a bit while they had it on the ramp because I found them too tricky to get to. They confirmed my suspicion that the front compression adjusters are seized but they did manage to adjust compression and rebound on the rear so it feels a lot better now. It was super hard at the back but it now feels like I have some movement in the dampers. Its almost civilised now.
