Took the driver's side door panel off to investigate the window regulator and possible leak. The regulator is totally destroyed. I managed to realise this once the window was jammed half way down. So by trial and error and climbing out of the passenger side 4 or 5 times I managed to get the window pushed up as high as possible so it feels like it is shut. I'll have to order a new regulator now and then fit it. In the meantime if I want to drive the car I can only get in and out via the passenger side.

I did notice the front bottom corner of the membrane was not quite properly sealed. So maybe this is my leak. I'll apply entra sealant there when I get ground to refitting.

Sounds like you have it.

I redid mine with butyl "tape" on a roll, warm it up a little roll out and its as factory.

Don't buy a cheap regulator, you'll be doing it again ask me how I know.

I found good genuine ones from low miles boxster, just remember to remove the boxster stop in the guide rail.

So I tried to drive the car today but it had gone into shut down mode - whatever that's called. I still have not replaced the driver's side regulator so the window is just jammed into position. I tried opening and closing using the key in the lock hoping this would wake the car up and allow me to use the central locking but it didn't. Somehow I managed to get the indicators flashing without actually opening the door. I can only assume my alarm siren is disconnected. I thought these would stop after a while and I would just leave the car until I get my replacement regulator. Unfortunately they kept flashing for 3 or 4 minutes so I thought I had to do something to stop this or I would have a dead battery. I decided to drop the windows with the key in the lock. The passenger window came down nicely and driver's side move a couple of inches eventually. So I got in and jammed the driver's window closed again - there is no door card or membrane on the door. Then I shuffled over to the passenger side to get out of the car and the door wouldn't open. I operated the central locking using the button on the dash several times but the door would not open. Now I'm starting to get a bit stressed. The driver's side door window can only be closed from the inside and the passenger door is refusing to work. I actually started considering climbing out of the passenger window. I kept trying the inside door handle and the outside door handle and operating the central locking and eventually it worked. So mini drama over the car is now locked and the windows are closed. I'll keep operating the key fob daily so the car doesn't go back to sleep.

Does anybody have any ideas why the passenger door lock / catch refused to work / open when using the inside and outside handles?

On mine if the remote control isn't used then the procedure is to unlock the drivers door then within a couple of seconds put the key in the ignition and turn it to acc (or just turn the engine on).

If you don't do this the alarm will go off.

It sounds like you set off the alarm but as you say the siren was disconnected, so I reckon the car probably went into lock down mode or something funny.

Next time try unlocking it an immediately putting the key in the ignition as described and I reckon you'll be OK.

My remote is currently not operating the central locking/alarm so this is my start up procedure at the moment until I feel like giving Herr Porsche a truck load of money to get a new key.

Yeah the problem I have is I am trying to not use the driver door. So even though I unlocked it via the key I wanted to use the passenger door. That way the driver's side window can remain jammed in the top position sealed into the upper most window seals. Even after I got the car back into normal mode the passenger door refused to open using either the inside or outside handle. It did eventually open after many frantic attempts.

My 996.2 ignores the central locking button for a few minutes after starting the car with the key from sleep mode.

My solution is to drive it more often!

I just had to carry this massive box about 500 yards from the shipping pick up place because this is how they decided to ship my new window regulator.

Think so

I used their web only partner company Car Parts Bargains which I believe is the same business but there is no messing with vouchers as the prices are as low as they can be.

But to be fair I got the link from someone on the boxa.net forum and then perused other sellers for deals. It was cheaper than any I could find sticking to original.

Good stuff, I ask as the one on ECP is allegedly OEM - I had to fit two of the bloody things!

Perfect! I always got scared by regulators and got my mechanic to do mine and line them up properly - one of the doors leaked afterward though and needed sealed up

Eurocarparts / carpart4less / carpartsbargains (ebay) are the same.

If they list it as "VM" that means Vehicle Manufacturer = genuine part.

As per the regulator pictured....I've had loads of genuine parts this way.
