My first M car. E39 M5

For the record, all the bits and bobs on the outside of the car that is now painted red will be put back to standard. New trim and emblems, so it'll look standard apart from the wheels and the slightly lower ride height due to the Bilstein chassie.
Will try to source a set of mint Style 65's or if that proves impossible a set of equally mint Style 37's from an e38 which has the better offset and correct width to that of the Style 65's.
I'll keep posting, but it won't be that often until I take delivery.

among the ones sold new in Sweden Imola is the rarest standard color, 17 out of just 166 sold new here. Have had a few imola ones before, not M5's tho, I find it a rather easy to live with colour aswell, doesn't get dirty in a flash like my now Oxford green 530 which is absolutely hopeless to keep clean, but oh so pretty when it is.
I'm actually buying a cottage in Sweden, Valdersmarvik if you know it.

Not far at all then, perhaps I'll stumble across you and your M5. Off topic, but we're planning on keeping a car at the cottage. Is it worth importing one from the UK or buying one in Sweden?

I don't know what the rules are regarding driving a car for long periods of time on a GB number plate, or any other foreign plate. Easiest would be to keep something already on a Swedish plate I reckon, unless LHD poses a real challenge, which I assume it doesn't.

Progress on the car is ongoing but slow.. Front struts are in, and the rear ones are being installed. A job that should take one day tops, but current owner is extremely picky, everything needs to be cleaned and perfect when installing new bits. All the trim and emblems is supposed to be on now, brand new aswell.
I'll drive over after the MotoGp-race this evening to have a look, I doubt it's down on the ground, but if it is I'll snap a few.
A month 'til delivery, and frankly it's just as good since we had snow last week and well below zero temperatures..

Some more of the (painfully slow) progress. VERY dusty car tho, will shine up better when washed.
Chassis is installed and adjusted to the highest possible setting in the rear, still a little lower than standard but pretty much perfect, front is still way too low, so that's going up about an inch, the goal is just a tad of a drop from the standard ride height.
Brand new headlights, foglights, bonnet emblem, grill and bumper trim installed. The "under-the-engine-covers" still to be attached.
For some reason he has painted the BMW-roundel black on the airbag cover, but I will change that myself or that will take him another week
But the rest of the interiour apart from the red bits are absolutely immaculate.
Currenty sits on a set of a much more curb-rashed BBS Challenge than I thought, brand new wheel and tyre combo sits awaiting, still looking for a set of correct Style 65's.
Delivery no later than next week, or by then my patience will be running very thin since may 25th was the original delivery date.

Finally. Been waiting almost 2.5 months since I took the desicion go get an M5.
So here's some more pics of the car, now named "Admiral Graf Spee" Cruiser size, big guns (Well, not really)
Took delivery late last night so I haven't driven it more than 20 miles, but everything seems to check out, it's loud, very rapid and tracks straight. Chassie-wise it feels like a new car, pretty much every bushing the suspension is new as are the struts, so there is no squeaks or rattles what so ever.
It came as mentioned before with 2 sets of wheels and tyres, a very rough set of BBS Challenge 19" with a mixed bag of tyres, some Nankans up front and Achilles?? In the rear (never heard of) Had the BBS's been in better shape I would have gone with those and sold the Dotz that are on the car in the pics, but it'll be the other way around. The BBS set will be sold and I'll run with the other set which is brand new on new tires until I can find a set of the correct Style 65's, I'm not really a fan of black wheels nor 19" wheels, hence the search for a correct set, but funds are not un-limited atm
Had the car in for a MOT this morning, passed w/o any advisories, and got complimented for the very good condition. It's drier than the Namib desert underneith, should be aswell since pretty much every seal in the entire drivetrain is replaced with new items.
Immidiate plans are to put the stock airboxes back in place, source a few replacement inner trim pieces, I like the red bits but I still want the car to be stock inside atleast. Also get the tracking done. And give it a damn good polish since the paint is very dull.
I was a little worried that the new chassie would ruin the ride and was surprised that it's actually quite comfy, it's stiff, but not S-line Audi bone jarring stiff...
And the Borla cat back is properly loud on acceleration but quiet at cruising speed.

Some idiot put achilles on the rear of my car before I bought it - they are AWFUL, I mean TERRIBLE - especially in the damp/wet, My car is torsen quattro but with those achilles tyres on it drove like it had 900 bhp and bald citroen 2cv tyres on the rear - very slippery..
I immediately swapped them out for goodyears (any decent tyre will do) and the handling is back to solid as a rock - no way would I drive an M5 with those on it!

I got a bargain I reckon.. Looked thru the whats spent on it since 2014... 123655 swedish... 10 and a half grand Sterling... That didn't include the car
Fitted the stock airboxes and new filters for those today. Took me, hamfisted as I am 30 minutes. Zero heat-soak since the air isn't drawn from the fiery hot engine-bay any longer, it feels like it's gained 50 bhp..
I'll have to re-paint the wiper stalks and all the side trim on the doors due to PO being sloppy with the painting procedure, unlikely as it it concidering that everything else is very well executed indeed, wiper stalks were tatty so they were repainted some semi-matte black but w/o clear on it, same with the side trim. It didn't really react all that well with the mild de-greaser I used when washing the car, so now it's all spotty. Not a big deal but it's a bit boring to have to redo it again.
And i'll have to claybar the entire car due to overspray residue and a mate of mine is going to cut and polish it after that.

I had the car in for an as it turned out very necessary 4-wheel alignment, not really a surprise when basically the whole chassies is new. One rear wheel had .18 degrees of toe and the other one zero and the front was equally out of whack, so handling was a bit nervous. Now it's rock solid on a smooth road, on rutted motorways it tramlines quite a bit, but that's to be expected I guess with fat tyres and stiff suspension.
The mechanic took his time, grumbled alot but got the tyres aligned perfect within factory specs, what he didn't manage was to keep the steering wheel straight... So it has to go in on friday again.
