Son is trying to renew his insurance and gets different quotes for different addresses. Reason I say this is he's in the Army and presently in Tidworth but his driving licence and log book for his car are registered at my home (Newcastle Upon Tyne) as he's posted every couple of years (or has been in the past) and also moves internally so his address changes regularly. He's spoke to LV and asked over the phone which one he should use. At first the guy said it should be where the car is mostly used, but would ask his manager, who then came back and said the address written on the log book. So as you can see he's no better off and still unsure. Difference in quotes is about £50 cheaper using my home address so not a great deal, but would hate for him to have to make a claim and they turn round and say wrong address insurance void.

It should be the address where its normally kept, ie wherever he is living.

I have a similar situation, cars registered at my Mums address but insured at mine - never had an issue with this.

I insured mine on camp about 15 years ago and to be fair I don't know if it would have been cheaper to use my parents address. I did however get to tick the box to say it was parked in a private, secure and guarded place. So I thought surely that would have been cheaper.

Looking back at it now my car was registered at my Mums but insured on camp as that's where it spent most the time. I never needed to claim though.

I'd have thought being on camp was lower risk from some insurance perspectives...

..that said, tell them everything and allow them to advise you; the call will be recorded. If you have provided full disclosure and the truth then they have no come back IIRC; they are insuring based on the information provided.

n.b. I am not an insurer or a lawyer.

lol. Young soldiers. Cars. I think the last thing the insurers are worried about is it being stolen!

I'm raf, it's the location where the car is normally kept. If he lives on base then that's the address. I know a lot of insurance companies are a right PITA as trying to explain you live in a barrack block which isn't on thier always correct databases of addresses really confuses them. Maybe look at the forces finance website or the forces discount website. There are some specialists about who understand the situation a little better.

For example as I used to drive on an active taxiway to get to work I needed airside insurance including (nearly all normal insurance companies specifically excluded it) and one found through forces finance covered it.

My son's insurer (Co-op) allow two addresses for Armed Forces. A home address and a 'kept' address. As and when he's posted, he changes the 'kept' address but the car stays registered to the home address.
Makes life easier. They do class being parked behind fences with armed guards as being 'on the road' though.
