You sound like a man after my own heart, that's exactly the sort of thing I'd buy
I loved my P38, they definitely have something about them, I'd have another quite happily. Enjoy!

I've been fiddling again.
The M Performance Exhaust is known to make the car look a bit "Wheelbarrow-esque" as the tips stick out quite a bit. This doesn't really suit the stealthy look of the 640d tailpipes, but I'd just chucked them on for the time being. Either way, they looked a bit st:
So, I borrowed my buddy's ramp, and whipped the backbox off:
For a bit of precision adjustment:
It looks so much better now in my opinion, and the exhaust looks stock again, rather than drawing attention to itself:
Bar that, it's all been plain sailing. It's doubled as a brisk and efficient tip run weapon:
I've also fitted a Pipercross panel filter to the OE airbox, which has freed up a bit of induction noise. Not masses, but there's a subtle whoosh there now.
I expect it'll tick over 20,000 miles this week.

Much like Matt, I'm just about to hit 30k miles, 3 oil changes (2 done by myself - It's very simple) done already and a 4th coming from BMW in 3k miles (in about 4 weeks at my mileage rate) Mine isn't a hand me back lease, so I'll try and pass it on to the wife in a few years.
I've had the backbox replaced with the Performance one thanks to the rattle, courtesy of BMW North Oxford. Much like Matt, I flat refused the carbon tipped option they gave me, it just looks stupid. The Chrome ones are just about bearable once I took a dremel to them and recessed them properly into the bumper like Matt has.
I'm about to have my third set of tyres fitted today, MPSS to Sottozeros for the winter in a 225 square setup - which gave ample grip considering the power. Today, i've gone for Michelin Pilot Sport 4's. (Not 4S) 4S not available in 18" in the UK yet.
I waited until about 5k miles before fitting a JB4 I thought I'd give the car a chance to show any warranty niggles before invalidating parts of it. So far, very pleased. Obviously its not a perfect solution and hopefully someone will figure out how to map these cars properly, but by God its quick, and I'm comparing that to my 911 GT2, my old MRC Stage 2 B7 RS4 wouldn't see which way it'd gone in a straight line.
I was given the option to change to an M3 a few months ago, apart from the M3 looking a lot nicer, I couldn't see any benefit for the way I use the car.

The exhausts are a great change. They did look to stick too far out before, they look just right now.
I do wonder though if BMW deliberately made them like that? Perhaps they found in testing that they got too hot and gases/heat etc fouled the bodywork near the tip? I guess you'll find out soon enough, hopefully not!

We'll soon see! I doubt it, as the original back box tips were pretty close to where these are now. It seems fine so far anyway!

Lots of interesting stuff
Aha, I forgot. I've also fitted a JB+. I chose this over the JB4 as I don't think I'll ever decat mine, or go for many other mods to the drivetrain, so the JB+ with a single map seems to be sufficient over the 6 maps and additional logging etc you can get with the JB4, granted you don't get quite as much power. What map are you using Chris?- sweet photo*
According to the supplier, mine should now be around 390/400bhp and about 550nm. I'd echo your comments, it's ballistic now, I wasn't really sure how much of a difference I'd notice, but it's absolutely relentless mid-range to the redline now.
I did a 70-100 roll in 4th the other night in 3 seconds dead, which seems brisk enough.
You must be using yours properly, I'm still on my first set of tyres!

Might be looking for one soon
Think it will be a fairly low spec car for my budget but am erring on the side of the auto, are the prices at BMW dealers open to much negotiation in your experience ?
Also, sort of ruling out the 135i, great car but older and to be honest, if I can get a low mileage, still in warranty 140i for say 22k, then that seems like a much better option, lots of nice, older ones out there but not paying 18/19k for a 30k plus 2015 135i when the 140i isnt a massive stretch away, prices seem to be all over the place.
Not all that fussed on the options, Heated Seats preferably, but the posher Sat Nav, meh, HK or the other, better speakers I wouldnt mind but not the end of the world, adaptive dampers I would like but not paying shedloads more for one with it, like someone said, optioned 135i or a 140i missing some of the bits ?
Sunroof, seems to be rare, prob would forget it has it.
Speed limit thing, look out of the window, managed thus far without it.
Cruise control, dont do a huge mileage, not all that fussed.
Privacy glass, not all that bothered, dont do anything private in my car...
Anything else ?

You'll love it.
Adaptive dampers, I wouldn't be too hung up on, they're still not a perfect solution and the passive setup is easier to upgrade to better dampers should you feel the need. Birds for example.
Pro nav, I personally think is very nice and the basic small screen with its huge black edges would bug me. The interior isn't a beacon of modernism as it is, and the little screen doesn't help matters.
HK, is alright, I've not heard the basic setup, but the HK won't blow you away. It's loud though, so if you listen to music at a decent volume, perhaps worth considering.
Car play, a waste of money, BMW connected reads your texts, calendar, contacts and has Spotify app support built in. The only thing missing is Apple maps, and the Pro Nav with its learning function or Waze is better anyway.
Cruise was a must for me, but I do a lot of miles.
I actually ordered the sunroof too, my dealer was surprised, I don't think many people bother, but I love a sunroof on a sunny day.
I got the basic LED lights, they're fine, but they're so bright, when the lenses are dirty (there is no washer system) you will get the odd flash from other drivers. I guess the light refracts.
The performance exhaust is worth getting, although your neighbours might not think so.
I got electric seats with memory, but only really because my wife uses the car sometimes and we can have a key each with seat and mirror settings. If it was just me, I wouldn't bother.
Front and rear parking sensors are nice, it's not the easiest car to see the corners of. I believe self park and radar cruise were options, but I didn't bother as I can park a car and radar cruise drives me mad 90% of the time in other cars I've owned. When traffic is heavy, it works quite well, but for sitting at 85/90 and using lanes correctly, it's flawed. It also brakes instead of anticipating and I hate to see brake lights on the motorway, most of the time it's avoidable if you're a halfway decent driver..... Rant over.
Overall, one of my favourite cars to own, it took me all of 30 seconds to forget how it looked (let's face it, it's a funny looking thing) as soon as I drove it.
I got a substantial discount on mine, as I'm guessing most did, which seem to reflect in the cheap 2nd hand prices now. Good luck.

Cheers,
It ticks so many boxes for me, would be looking at cars in the 20 to 24k bracket, not overly fussed on spec like I said, the main thing is the engine and the overall package for the money, that would be by far the most expensive car I have ever bought for myself, hopefully they will have dropped further by the time I am in a position to buy, reckon am about two months off.
Couldn't stretch to an A45 and to be honest, I think the BMW is more my kind of thing, the Golf R and Audi S3s are nice but the theft aspect scares me, still a thing with the BMW but doesnt seem as prevalent, I suspect being RWD only reduces its usefulness to criminals for getaway purposes, perhaps get a 3 door as well, and remove the rear badge.
They are a bit gawky but there is much worse out there, look better in certain colours and as a 3 door.

Will you be buying one out of warranty? Potentially expensive if something major is to go wrong? It ticks so many boxes for me, would be looking at cars in the 20 to 24k bracket, not overly fussed on spec like I said, the main thing is the engine and the overall package for the money, that would be by far the most expensive car I have ever bought for myself, hopefully they will have dropped further by the time I am in a position to buy, reckon am about two months off.

Loving the look of the car aswell as the progress. I'm a sucker for alcantara and carbon bits, so i'm definitely a fan! The new tips are a big improvement too IMO.
I'm not so keen on the rear badging, if i'm honest. It's quite a funny little idea but i'm more of a de-badge rather than re-badge kinda guy. Each to their own though

Really like those 640D tailpipes with the slash cut finish, I too hate the standard options and it's one thing putting me off the MPE, the other being potential drone on the motorway as I have a manual gearbox. Did the 640D trims fit on without any work? My m240i has the m performance diffuser, so may not need to trim back the exhaust itself like you have needed, but I also dislike the wheelbarrow look.
I'm debating whether to get the Bilstein B12 kit fitted, as it seems to transform the car from what I have read, and believe the birds kit is based on it (but at a higher price).

Anyway, have had all sorts and never had a warranty, I would hope a 1 series is fairly robust, most of it is common with other 1 series, its only the engines and gearboxes that would give any major concern.
