Hi All,

I have just agreed to buy a fiord F-150 in Dubai and will be putting it on export plates as it doesn't seem like | can save import taxes without transferring residency.

Does annoying have any shipping recommendations or price ideas?

Any experience or knowlege will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Where are you a resident? Is it new? Is it 2nd hand? Where are you exporting to?

I think some more information is needed.......... I know people in Dubai that know the processes to export cars in and out of Dubai, but they will need more information than you have given.

I am a resident in the UK however I have family that are residents there and could be done in their name if required.

It is a used truck and is going to the UK.

Thanks

Stick a post in Middle East Forum. A couple of members that read there have exported cars back to UK from UAE. Some very recently. However they have been residents, and owned vehicle for a long time, and then shipped back when they have returned.

As long as you are prepared for the import tax, then I think is all doable, you just need a good vendor to move it. Stick a post in Middle East Forum.

One of those would be me... I shipped my Ferrari back from Dubai when I moved back here 18 months or so ago.

There is no difference in the actual export / import process whether you've been a resident or not, the only thing is that you'll pay import duty and VAT at this end unless you've been a DXB resident and owned the vehicle for more than 6 months before the export.

I went through a company based near Donnington however I cannot in good conscience recommend them (I'll go no further here due to the name&shame rules)

In short, the process involves going to RTA in Dubai and getting an export certificate - for god's sake make certain that RTA put the exact date of manufacture of the vehicle on it otherwise DVLA will use Jan 1 of that year - this is almost impossible to change (ask me how I know)

You can ship either ro-ro or in a container, insurance will be extra, shipping will take about 8 weeks or so
Once the car lands in the UK it'll either need an SVA test and MOT or just an MOT depending on the age, I can't assist with that part as the company I used did all that.
