I saw this on a thread on the MBWorld Forum

http://www.frozenboost.com/water-to-air-heat-excha...

I'm considering this as I'm planning on replacing the pump anyway as preventative maintenance.

Looks like both need brackets made up which is where I'd struggle.

That is the one I am looking at, £201.30 delivered from a UK supplier.

Same cooler, just £18 + import duty cheaper.

I'll keep an eye out for this when I'm out and about. Lovely motor

Do you ever go to the BoostedUK meets at the Akeman Inn, Kingswood?

Cheers.

I don't get out to those meets, I don't know many people in the area still so would feel like a spare part.

Well this may be up for sale soon. I am getting absolutely ridiculous quotes for insurance at the moment! My renewal is no better. I refuse to pay over £1k to insure a 14 year old Mercedes at my age!

I used A Manning. I paid about £100 over the cheapest price comparison sites but the policy allows for an agreed value which is quite handy.

I did not find the car too hard to insure. I'm 41 and live in a rural area though.

Managed to get a sensible quote, less than I was happy to pay so happy days. I was staggered at the cost.

These type approved for towing?

Want to chop the MPS in for something with 8+ cylinders and ideally an estate. Looking at these or an S6 V10. The latter I know is type approved but the E55 there's lots of conflicting views. Think either are less likely to ZZB though wink

I wouldn't recommend any Audi from my experience.
Fast BMW or fast Merc if it's German you desire.

The E55 isn't type approved for towing I'm afraid.

Car is at MSL Performance on Saturday for a check up and Dyno run.

Rear spoiler is currently off to get repainted and standard air boxes are on.

Sorry to highjack your thread Angrydog. As an update on my car I replaced my headunit for an Xtrons unit. I had to have it professionally finished in the end as I was struggling with CANBUS wiring. After I got it working it lasted a whole 24 hours before I ripped it all out and put my OEM unit back in. I now have new found love for the old unit.

The xtrons felt cheap, the OS was fast enough but not very customisable. The support was poor, however customer services overall quite good as they have given a full refund (pending) as they explained the unit was not compatible with the car (CANBUS)

The screen was very bright and the unit felt very incongruous to the rest of the car. The fitter was not full of praise either. I understand Xtrons is actually just a seller and all the units are the same bar CPU and OS.

The audio also seemed to half in volume and really an amp would be needed meaning it's a major upgrade to get working. frown

However on a more positive note I replaced my intercooler pump with the Bosch 010 unit. The car is SOOOO much better now. The intake temps do not exceed 40 degrees anymore whereas they used to be about 70-80! High speed power and motorways speeds are so much quicker!

My pump looked original and I had no idea it was faulty until preventatively replaced. I'm planning to split the circuit now and add the front mounted intercooler. However I want one which will require NO FABRICATION. How is your project coming?

You should have had a fibre optic wire to the HK amp int he boot I would have thought, dont all E55's have HK audio ? or did you do that. The volume on mine seems the same as before.

The screen brightness can be set I think, though it doesnt seem any different to my NTG 2.5 int hat respect.

Not as good quality as the OEM Head Unit but doesnt stick out like a sore thumb, fits in the dash nicely and the extra functionality is worth it in my opinion.

My car does not have HK but does have optical connections and the audio gateway.

I could have persisted with the xtrons unit but given I was offered a free refund I decided to take it. I will put money into an amp upgrade at some point but I know it would have bugged me.

I am quite happy with the standard audio. Radio reception isn't always the best but neither was it in my M5.

I had it dyno'd at MSL on Saturday, it made 444bhp and 534lbft to the wheels. This equates to 522bhp and 630lbft at the fly. The IATs were too high, they reckon it should be between 530 and 560bhp to the fly. Its had a Bosch pump apparently so I am going to fit a new larger heat exchanger.

I'm going to lower it and then that's about it. The miles are too high on it to tune it further and to get over 600bhp will end up costing around another £2500, and I don't think it is worth it, especially as I plan on getting an E63 BiTurbo or F10 M5 next.

FWIW I can thoroughly recommend the E63 Biturbo. The midrange is breath-taking and the tech on my five year old model is great even by todays standards.

Whats it already had done, those engines seem to be nigh on unburstable, and very tuneable,

I am sorry I bottled out of getting one now, I do think that as AMG are dropping V8's they may start to be a little more appreciated over time, weird how they are actually quite cheap yet a 190 2.5 is mega money, same with E500s or is it 500E's these are probably a lot better than either if we are honest. That said, looking in March, a lot are still for sale that I was looking at.

Would love to try one, and see what its like compared to my CLS 500, as I still find that quick, and it "only" has 388 bhp, surely with 522 it must be as quick as you ever need ?
