Not a badge snob, at all. But folk saying to rebadge as a TDi. Just, no.

Have you seen how much those little badges cost these days!

Great car - I ran an estate for 3 years / 50,000 miles. After 3 years I still used to start it up with the door open ;-) Only serious expense was petrol - did 19 mpg everywhere - town, motorway ... Brake pads and tyres were a bit pricey but its a 435 bhp car ! The throttle response off the line is very sensitive and the ride is unnecessarily hard but other than that I couldn't fault it. I towed a 1,600 KG caravan with mine - had great fun burning boy racers off out of roundabouts on the A1 !!

Removing the badges is fine, but to anyone in the know, it's still a S6. I love them & have been looking at Autotrader for a little while know seeing how prices really aren't moving. Avants seem to be a lot more popular than the saloons. I do 5000 miles/year currently so halving my MPG figure isn't the end of the world.
Still, a hell of a lot of car for the money.

A colleague just bought one, a black Avant with black/tan leather and carbon interior trim; such excellent bang for your buck. Don't put on TDI badges on; dreadful.

Will be interested to see what your mpg will be when towing!

Sold mine a year ago and still miss it. Mine had a Milltek fitted and have to say it's a necessity

Excellent car and well worth having. But as already mentioned, the brake pads can be a big expense, but then it isn't exactly a Corolla! And you must remap it. I live in New Zealand and have seen many of these with remaps in them and the gains are massive. Transforms them into a truly awesome beast. If you're gonna be skint, may as well enjoy it!

There's been an avant for sale near me for a while. I've got 8 months until my lease Civic goes back, it wouldn't replace my van used for mountain bike transport, it wouldn't replace my offroader or the MX5 undergoing rust treatment in my garage but I still really, really want one!

The towing part is interesting as I'd not found details on the tow capacity so presumed it wasn't rated to tow. Those figures would probably mean I could tow an MX5 to a track day without having to sit my trailer licence.

So tempted to go in with a low offer to see if they're desperate to get it out of their yard yet even if it has to wait 8 months on the driveway before becoming my daily.

Very nice. My girlfriend's father has an estate too. Exhaust is a must, sounds lovely.

I've got to disagree with you when you say that massive gains can be had with a remap. I can't see how a n/a V10 can be remapped to get noticeable gains.

Quick update.

Car has been going great and I'm really starting to enjoy the relaxed nature of it.

Expense wise it HAD been fine! Got an engine management light ping onto the dash last week. I scanned it with torque to reveal "intake manifold runner flap stuck in the closed position". Bugger.

Took it to The Phirm as recommended and they will be pulling the intake manifold off to confirm what's up. Best case it's just a circlip or something that's become unattached. Worst case new manifold time. Car is still "in warranty" with a certain aftermarket warranty company who are well known for being brown and sticky. They have already started making noises that if there is any carbon in the intake the warranty won't pay.... Optimistic I am not, however if it is a failed component I will certainly be fighting with them!

Only other thing I've noticed is that when it's cold/wet and making a full lock turn I seem to get grumbling/slight wheel hop from the front, so who knows what that could be!

I agree with the comment about re-badging...If it were mine I would remove the badges altogether, and let people guess !

I have an Alfa 156 JTDM 150 with a remap to about 190BHP, I have de-badged it completely, and put a set of nice 16" Alfa Teledials on it, replacing the soft 17" multispokes. A friend who is an Alfa guy thought it was a standard 156 Turismo...

Your Audi is amazing, keep it discreet, except for some decent exhausts perhaps: I travelled from NE England to Cybox in the Wirral to get them to fit a cat back system on mine, and I was impressed.

Oh and keep the tints as well...as has been said they keep the car cool in the summer and they look good as well....IMHO of course !

I bought one on a 06 plate a few years ago. Had done over 100,000 miles and had he EML on when I bought it. Paid £6900. My mechanic friend cracked open the manifold flap motor and it was indeed the spindle that the flap operate one which had gone. He fashioned a new one, put it all back together and I didn’t have my problems since. Shifted the car on for a tidy profit within a year.

Update on the EML - removing the inlet manifold and reseating everything revealed that the flap motor had also failed. Fortunately this meant it was a pretty straight forward claim through the warranty company who picked up cost of the repair - which was a very pleasant surprise!

Whilst the intake manifold was off I also had them do a full de carbon as the ports/valves were pretty badly coked up. Difference is night and day and it seems to have gained/restored a nice chunk of power!

The skipping is exaggerated in the cold weather so I'm going to get alignment checked to be on the safe side. I also suspect that as it's running slightly narrower tyres than recommended (255/19 Vs 265/19) that it may not be helping either.

Been a while since I updated. With the work above... The warranty ended up funding it all. I paid some extra to have the full carbon clean done while the manifold was off. It felt a lot more powerful when I got it back however unfortunately there was a smell of fuel that would just not go away, it was worse after a more spirited drive too. I took it back to the garage who spent a good while looking over it and concluded that it was a very very slight weep from one of the fuel lines they had removed...

Bad news was that it was the worst one to access so it basically meant doing the whole job again, as the manifold needed to come back off! It was the week before Xmas and I really need the car for a trip we had planned... Thankfully the Phirm went the extra mile and worked some late evenings to get it done ASAP. One of the owners leant me one of their cars so I could still get about too. I appreciate everyone makes mistakes and I was very impressed with how it was handled which is all I could ask for. Needless to say I have since been back for more work.

This time it was some preventative maintenance in the form of a gearbox service. Shifts seem much smoother now with the exception of first to second which always are a tad harsh compared to the rest especially when cold.

I've also got round to having the tow bar fitted, I used the westfalia centre in Bristol who gave me a great price for a detachable one with the dedicated and coded electrics. I also bought the rear diffuser with the pop out panel that comes with factory fitted tow options. No bumper cuts and everything being hidden don't ruin the rear end to much when the tow ball is removed.

Got a small break planned in the New forest at the end of this month so will update then with the towing MPG!

I also upgraded the MMI to the latest SW, installed 2017 maps and managed to pick an absolute bargain up off of eBay - genuine Audi music interface for £50 - they usually go for ~200. Added a Tune2Air Bluetooth adapter and I can now stream Spotify and control it via the MMI.

It's proving to be a great family car and it always puts a smile on my face so I think it will be staying for quite a while yet....

Excellent stuff. I am now convinced that my lack of courage when looking at this exact car at the dealers was a mistake!

I ended up leasing an S3 for myself to run around in and kept the old family XC70 for the times an estate is needed. Whenever this thread pops up I get a pang of regret, but I'm very happy to see it getting looked after so well!

Hi, think we met at kids swimming yesterday! I remembered a thread about a caravan towing s6 and thought there can’t be many of them around!

Lovely car and great to meet a fellow V10 wagon owner! Always thought these were cooler than their rs cousins - a milltek would finish it nicely!!!!

This is my wagon - no towing duty for this one although it has done a few dump runs!
