Awesome car. Is it actually 276bhp or is it '276bhp nudge nudge wink wink'?
Possibly, the same engine makes a claimed 310bhp in the Lexus IS350 so yes Toyota might be protecting their premium brand by under quoting here
in a heavy Aurion that I drove with this engine the horses felt extremely healthy
The IS350 is a slightly different version IIRC - 2GR-FSE (it has direct as well as port injection). However Toyota may be being a touch gentlemanly with the output. A few of the engine conversions using this engine (2GR-FE) in MR2's yield around 310-325bhp with an improved exhaust, intake and a few more revs on the standard ECU..

Mine dynod at 290bhp and also ~285ft/lb. (it's done this on Surrey rolling road and at Hangar111)
A mate of mine with basically the same conversion dyno'd (on the same day) at 292bhp and ~288ft/lb (so basically almost identical). (This will be with the same manifolds, ECU and intake)

I treat people claming 310-325bhp with the same set up with a good deal of scepticism - would love a go on their dyno at the same time of course, because then it would become true smile

Back on Topic - I love the idea of a 2gr Auris. Comfy, fast, innocuous, reliable smile

Update:
I spent a fortnight looking for the invisible cd multi changer, I mean it says 'Disc' on the stereo so it must have one right, then a friend was playing with the touchscreen and this happened

It's even got the ever so popular mini disc option

Took a drive to my local town, travelled at the speed limit but in an economy minded manner, all open road and no stop start traffic, the trip computer showed an average of 17kms per litre which in English is over 48mpg! Doesn't seem possible, even if it reads a little optimistically, have I done my maths right?

Only way to find out is to brim the tank, run it, then refill to the top again and do your calculations the old-fashioned way.

Yep, I'm ocd about that, this tank won't show anything like those figures because I've been going through the new car novelty of 'making progress'

Your screen reminds me of a stay in a Japanese hotel a few years ago. Numbed by jet lag, realised I needed the facilities. As I settled down, I realised the bog had a similar screen (colour), with all the ideograms, but instead of pictures of discs, there were pictures of arses with arrows pointing at them. Disturbing at first, but I got quite used to a wash and blow dry “down below” by the end of the stay.

After you’ve amazed your mates with the engine, just ask them to put the radio on...

If it turns out that you're getting 35mpg out of it, that sounds quite respectable for a V6. Doesn't seem so long ago that a 6-cyl engine (of whatever description) would struggle to make 25mpg in daily use, particularly if it was mated to an automatic 'box!

Small update.
First tank of fuel was consumed 20% sensibly 80% tomfoolery and it returned bang on 30mpg. Once I grow up I think it'll return around mid thirties.

I didn't think this would be a car I'd take out for the hell of it but most evenings I'm drawn to the garage and head out for a middle of nowhere hoon. It could be that it needs coaxing, carefully finding the limits of neat cornering rather than beating the road into submission or it might just be that every time I bury my foot it makes me giggle.

The gearing's pleasingly odd, 2nd will show 72mph, 3rd only 89 but 4th is geared for 132.
I've learnt that it needs to be doing 55 or more in 3rd so as not to kickdown into 2nd if I ask for full ahead but even the lonnnnnnng 4th gear is enough to accelerate very quickly.

Or I can just relax in 6th, engine silent, 1800rpm at the NSL and waft along in comfort.
Right now I can't fault this thing.

What could possibly make you passionately hate a random Japanese hatchback?

Did one run over your dog or something?

I love these. My girlfriend has a regular Auris and ever since I came across this I've dreamt of casually swapping hers with one.

I'm with you in that, how can there be any passion involved in a regular Auris?

This Master G, however, is frankly wonderous.

Love it, I've just started the process of importing one.

Only thing that might stop it is a Crown Athlete with the similar engine

Good info, not much available on it, appreciated

I love this kind of car.

Can the headunit be replaced with something from a regular Auris or can it even switch to a different language?

It is bizarre that you just can't buy something fast but discreet in the "official" UK market.
