Very nice car op. What was the clutch change reason? Am I right it was changed at 20,000 ?

I nearly brought an m6 2 years ago but ended up buying an m5 instead , at the time I couldn’t find an m6 in the condition I wanted.
Both cars are still sharp enough to keep up with lots of newer cars .
I have had a small exhaust mod done by paul the welder which is perfect for me and defo not too loud or droney.
Parts are expensive and the fuel tank size is annoying . But all in there solid cars with a lot of bad press on forums for repair cost , I’m mean what to people expect they are v10 monsters they are not cheap to run .
Enjoy the m6 , for the money and the epic driving experience what else would you buy .

Very, very nice, well done. I had the M6 on my shortlist but ultimately chose the XKR instead - I may end up with one of these yet though. I'll look out for you in Aberdeen.
8bit, I live near you. We’ve chatted before. I’m pals with Ross across the road from you.
The XKR was on my shortlist but ultimately failed the “too much like our old Range Rover inside” that we had a few too many issues with.

Scott looks after my e60 M5 servicing, I've not had any issues with any claims on my BMW approved extended warranty. Had a broken spring covered and a traction / ABS / control module fault, A 2.5k bill if I recall, All covered under warranty,

Servicing by scott is a must.

That’s very interesting. I would use Scott or AW Autotech, who I trust implicitly on all of our cars at present, if the warranty would allow it. Did you ever raise with BMW who was servicing the car?

The car was a London Car for me last 10 years so I would imagine it saw a greater level of stop/start wear than one would typically see. The last owner spent quite a lot on the car in their last year of ownership so I wonder if they maybe tired of the outlay; none of it warrantied as far as I can tell.

Thanks. I agree. As long as you’re prepared for the servicing/maintaining of what was once a very expensive car then it should be a very enjoyable experience to own. I’ve had lots of fun daily drivers but, aside from the 997 2S and the C63, they’ve all just felt a little bit inert. On top of that most of them have done a fair bit of depreciation and I really wanted to see if there was a car out there I could get excited about, was still practical enough to be my daily and be free of depreciation (within reason of course). I really do think the M6 could be it and I look forward to running it for a year or two and seeing how I get on. Never know, it may just get a slot in the garage over time and become a keeper.

I have had 2 warranty claims since scott started looking after the servicing on the M5. First was for a ABS / traction fault. BMW Aberdeen asked to see the invoice to back up the service stamp which had been carried out by scott which I provided. The warranty covered the 2.5k bill with no issues.

The second claim was for a broken front spring. As the car has covered under 60k the work was carried out under warranty no questions asked.

as long as the servicing is carried out with the correct M parts warranty will be covered.

I did check all this before I got the big serviced carried out last year as I wanted to keep up the BMW extended warranty. Scott was the best value for money and local to me. I will be booking it in for the wee service in the next week or two.

Car looks great James.. the E63 is a shape which I disliked when it was launched, however it's slowly grown on me little by little. My dad has owned a 635d Coupe for the past few years and when I see it now, it's actually something I really like the look of.

A nice condition, low mileage M6 with good history is only going to go up in value I'd have thought; so given your original criteria, I think you've picked the perfect option*.

Well that’s great to hear. I’ll get BMW to confirm for me too just for peace of mind but will also follow suit with the non-franchise servicing.

Thanks Grant. I was the same. They looked a little awkward at the time but actually the design really has aged well. It’s a very well put together Car and by that I mean literally the way it’s screwed together. It reminds me of the ‘hewn from granite’ feel of the Merc W124 era cars.

Did you consider the M5 with the same engine?

Such an engine seems even more shocking and exotic to me in a 4 door E class sized package!

Love the M6 OP - mind you it's in excellent company in your garage!

I go under a railway bridge at least once a week, and usually drop my window and floor it so I can hear my exhaust (childish I know)!

Several months ago I followed a V10 M5 under the same bridge - I dropped my window and thankfully he gave it some welly. The sound of a V10 in a hurry is car porn! thumbup

I thought briefly about the M5 Touring but the saloon doesn’t do too much for me. I think the coupe is a far prettier car and has a few nicer features.

Thanks. I do like all things automotive, probably classic more than modern though if I’m honest.

Yes the V10 is what sold it to me really. It just sounds so wonderful!

Yes I remember, I think you (used to) have an Aston as well, we met on a PH run one day?

As a side-note, I'm a hobbyist photographer and mostly like shooting cars - I'd love to take some shots of your M6 sometime, or indeed any of the tasty things you have (according to your garage on here), if that's of interest then pop me a PM.

I now have a conclusive answer and that is it is not required to have maindealer servicing in order to keep up the BMW insured warranty as long as they are VAT registered and issue a full service invoice. beer

That means I can have it serviced by the specialists in Aberdeen without issue....which is nice.

So my Dent Devil sadly couldn't quite get at the dink on the rear arch from the rear. He tried in both the arch and from the boot but alas it was not to be. If any damage that required paint occurs to that corner then i'll get it sorted by a paint shop but till then it's going to stay.

Car is in tomorrow for the geometry to get checked. It just feels a little light at the front under acceleration so i'm getting it checked to be sure it's all pointing where it should. Part of me is wanting to see if there's such a thing as a fast road setup but that may be foolish! driving

It's in my genes!

Really though, it's just to see if there are any improvements that can be made. I remember the 996 GT2 when it came out receiving considerable criticism of its handling in general but a quick trip to Centre Gravity and hey presto it was transformed.

Anyway I did a search and it wasn't obvious that there is anything so i'll leave it there for the moment. I'm not about to go sticking camber bolts in or adjustable top mounts. That is all to remain BMW's original.
