Don't see much GT86 representation over here so I thought i'd post up a build thread of my track focused GT86!

Here are the modifications so far:

Engine/Exhaust:

Forged Carrillo Rods and Pistons

AVO Stage 3 Turbo @ 22psi

Aquamist Water-Meth injection

AVO 3" Turbo back exhaust

AVO 3" exhaust

AVO Intake kit

Racer-X Oil pan

AVO Oil Cooler

Suspension/Chassis/Wheels:

Öhlins R&T Coilovers (6/6 Springs)

Every Summit brace/SWAVE control arm you can imagine

Whiteline Front 20mm Roll bar

Whiteline Rear 16mm adjustable roll bar

Work Emotion CR Ultimate wheels (18x9.5 ET38)

Brakes:

Front Stoptech 330mmx28mm BBK w/DS2500 Pads (Sidenote, DS2500's are utter ste)

Rear Stoptech discs w/Ferodo DS25000 Pads

Oily bits:

Stock Final Drive (4.1)

Carbon Prop Shaft

600hp driveshafts

Kaaz Super Q LSD 1.5 way

Helix Ceremetallic Clutch

Whiteline Gearbox Insert

Exterior:

Seibon TA Style Front Lip

Buddy Club Rear Carbon Fibre Spoiler with High Support Legs

TRD Front Canards

Beat Sonic Shark Fin Antenna

Interior:

Cusco 6 Point Dash Escape 2 Roll Cage with padding

Steering Wheel Boss

Sparco R325 Suede Steering Wheel

Sparco Evo II Bucket Seats

Sparco 6 Point Pro Racer Harnesses in Blue

Buddy Club Seat Rails

Custom Harness Bar

It's a pretty mean piece of kit at the moment, but there are definitely a few bits I want to change and sort out!

So the plan is, in no particular order:

LOTS of paintwork correction (the amount of swirl marks on this car are f***** grim laugh)
Replace headunit so I can run Torque to monitor IAT's/Oil temp/Oil pressure etc
Work Emotion D9R's in 18x8.5 for track wheels/tyres
Rexpeed Carbon sideskirts
AP Racing CP9040 Brake Kit with 355mmx32mm discs (330mmx28mm just aren't cutting it on track)
Get some of the interior back in/add some sound deadening.
Possibly some type of vented bonnet depending on track temps.
New steering wheel (not a fan of alcantara/suede on touchy bits)
A Functional front splitter to get rid of my high speed understeer rolleyes

Soooo yeah. I love this car biggrin

Unfortunately though, it's currently undergoing an engine rebuild due to a piston blow by issue. Should be back up and running early Feb in time for some more track action this year! smile

Very nice! Miss my 86 - sold it a year ago to fund a house purchase.

Not an obvious choice of track car given the standard engines are known to be fragile & somewhat down on power for the application.....

This ones actually turbocharged, pushing out about 400hp. However that being said, I have a stock Subaru BRZ that I've taken on 6 track days on road tyres and I can count on one hand the amount of times I've had to let somebody by because they're faster.

All this lark about them having not enough power is because most people can't actually drive fast! I just bought this 86 because it makes it easier to overtake M3's that don't like to get out of the way on the straights smile

There are also countless people running decently engineered forced induction kits around the 280hp-300hp mark on standard internals, tracking without issue.

I dare say you've been misinformed smile

Awesome build.

I am seriously looking at a BRZ this year and making it a bit more track focused but it will be a daily driver also so need to keep a good balance. Love the idea of these cars, I want to do some engine mods but try and keep it NA if I can.

How do you find the Ohlins? They are on my wish list if I get one.

My other option is completely different being the mustang GT, got a craving for a muscle car too so I'll need to decide which way to go.

Yeah they're cool cars but I don't see the point when you can just chip a Fiesta ST, which is £5k cheaper, for £500 and get the same power.

Because no matter how much you spend on the Fiesta, it'll never have the handling, driving position or feel of the GT86.

Thanks dude! The Öhlins are absolutely awesome. Best modification on the car. It's a weird sensation when you first put them on. They're weirdly supple, but have such incredible body control. Couldn't pick a better set of coilovers for road and track use! If you're sticking with N/A, I would definitely recommend a new manifold and a remap! Makes an incredible difference smile

I would love a Mustang, but.... For the same price you could have a BRZ that would be faster in a straight line (if that's your thing) and certainly better in the corners!

Yeah m9, you could also replace the interior with the entirety of the Demon Tweeks catalogue and it'd be exactly like a noble wink

Of course it won't. It'll be quicker down a country lane because you can see over hedges and easier to extract the performance from it because FWD is much easier to manage on the roads

Ah ok- I see you’ve edited your spec to include the turbo....

I’ve heard of several BRZ/GT86 lunching bottom ends- that’s several too many in my book! Shouldn’t happen!

No doubt the chassis is well-regarded, but I still feel it’s let down by the motor in standard guise. ~200hp N/A hauling 1240kgs simply doesn’t cut it in any kind of performance stakes nowadays.

I just question what performance the designers were aiming for?

I’m mindful that my old Integra makes ~190hp from a N/A 1800 & weighs ~1100kgs & that design is over 20yrs old now....my guess is it would absolutely run rings around a stock BRZ with some similarly talented pedalling though.

I can see why forced induction is a popular route to take.....

You would guess wrong, a friend of equal driving skills used to have a DC2 Type R. Here's a video of me following:

https://youtu.be/NEvX-YNiez0

the BRZ was comfortably faster. We're on the same tyres and also have similar brake compounds.

95% of people can't drive a 400hp-500hp cars fast, so what's the point in most cars having 400hp but for pub bragging rights? smile

The fact I have a Turbo 86 wasn't born out of a necessity for more power, more from the annoyance that people with more power couldn't drive faster or let me by smile

Yeah the BRZ will be cheaper as would buy used so plenty money left over for some mods. I to get annoyed with the power comments on this car. I currently have a clio RS trophy, its the turbo one with 220bhp so the brz will feel sluggish coming from this. But the clio is based on the same 1.0L clio's but tuned up to be a hot hatch. The BRZ/GT86 was made from the ground up as a sports car hence why it'll feel totally different from your run of the mill hot hatches etc.

Comfortably? Quite some claim- wonder how it would pan out if you swapped cars....

Well I was able to keep up with him whilst shifting at 6k to manage oil temps, so yeah, comfortably smile

Anyway, if you don't like GT86's, you don't have to look at my build thread. Simple really smile
