Sorry to break it to you but no insurance company will help you. They take the easiest route out of a claim. Which is usually just paying out because its cheaper than a court case.

We had a couple of guys slam their brakes on for no reason at a green light. We bumped into them. We had everything on cctv, 2 independent witnesses and were prepared to go to court. Insurance wenrnt interested wanted to settle out of court as quickly as possible. They hung us out to dry gave us no option to fight the case. Said company have just rung us 18 months down the line and now want us to stand up in court and be witnesses against a fraudulent personal injury claim.

This is a well known insurance company from a well known comparison site.

Sorry for rant on your thread.

On a plus note I love the older generation of Toyota they just keep going with minimal fuss.
Sorry to break it to you - you went into the back of someone, it's your fault, regardless of why they emergency stopped!

I don't want to derail the thread.

Yes my missus was naive and not paying enough attention as she should have done. The contact was mimimal. Accessor has said there was very little crazing of the paint on front bumper. He couldnt guarantee the accident had caused this but had to mark it down. No airbags deployed, no crash detection on airbag ecu etc..

It's taken 18 months but from what the insurance company has told me. They are now doing the other party for fraudulently claiming personal injuries which have resulted by them performing a dangerous unnecessary emergency stop. This is the reason we wanted to persue in court originally.
They have now asked us to stand up in court and testify against the other party. I'll be honest I've been left very stressed and let down by the whole thing and have refused to help the insurance as it won't change the outcome of it being our fault now. The insurance only want to take it to court now to minimise their outlay.

The insurance solicitor has already said if there was a genuine reason for a emergency stop and we went into the back of them. It would of been no question 100% our fault. Due to it being caught on cctv and evidence of witnesses. There is a high case for dangerous driving and they will have to answer the allegations in court. As the solicitor put it. You can't just go round slamming your brakes on randomly. Although it didn't help us at the time. We were very lucky it's been caught on cctv to back up our claims

Once again sorry to derail the tread. This is still a sore subject for me

Yeah I was getting myself very worked up about it all. But we've washed our hands if it now. The outcome won't change in our favour now. We've already swallowed the 4.5k insurance premium last year.

Anyway sorry to derail from the thread. I have been looking on and off for a while for a older Toyota. Albeit a green 5dr corolla t sport. They always appeal to me running a older 'sheddy' car. I've never had so much fun when I had my ignis gl. It went everywhere never grumbled or complained had a right laugh

It was my missus in her car that it happened too. She's 21 we couldn't do without a car as the kids go to school 20 miles away and her job is a 60 mile round trip.

She's was days away from getting her two year no claims as it was she lost her existing no claims. So the renewal was 0 no claims and a crash at fault we were getting bummed either way. It also doesn't help that we live in Manchester which seems to be crime centre of the world if you believe the insurance.

I've nearly pulled the trigger many times. The advice I got was as many invoices and well documented history as possible. Buy on condition not miles. As standard as you can find. It worth sourcing one that had the PPP upgrade done.

If it's the burble your after then you may be better getting hold of a forester as they tend to be looked after more throughly

I don't anticipate this affecting my shed, but I'm starting searching for a second car.

It's a car I've always wanted and they are becoming harder to find in good condition.

Subaru impreza WRX. Bug eye!

I've pretty much got the money to get one if I dip into savings, other then that I will be using money I'm saving running a shed to fund the purchase.

I want full chav too. World rally blue, big spoiler, but I don't want fked about with. There's one on auto trader in Cardiff 3900, midnight blue but looks completely standard. Tempted.
Do it. Dd your shed, enjoy in your dream car. That is what i do.

I had the exact same thing with the handbrake on mine, but that was caused by the garage who changed the rear discs and pads. Thankfully they sorted it at no cost!

Well yesterday I pulled the handbrake up literally as far as it would go, it was hard to get off. It was an hour later I parked up on girlfriends mum's drive which is steep and car rolled back, something it didn't do a few hours earlier when I dropped baby off there.

I am assuming me pulling the handbrake right up is somehow linked.

It's booked in at my usual garage tomorrow morning. Stuff cost, when it comes to things like brakes it's not about saving money, I need a handbrake I can rely on. I would take a look myself but I am yet to accumulate tools. I've got all the service and maintenance info for the whole car from this thread, the handbrake doesn't look complicated, but needs must. I am hoping it's just a case of adjustment, maybe an hour's labour top, I knew it needed looking at before it's MOT in October anyway. Just another job off the list.
Just leave it in gear until you need to get the MOT done, by then you may have the tools to DIY.

I'd do this - once owned a mk2 Golf that survived without a handbrake for about 10 months, there were a couple of awkward hill starts but it's amazing how quickly you got used to finding the biting point !!! It actually wasn't an expensive job to fix, just the time / laziness factor outweighed the necessity until the looming MOT forced me into fixing it.

Handbrake adjustment is pretty easy if you've got 15 mins and some basic tools -

If its the cable itself that needs adjusting, you take off the trim surrounding the handbrake in the centre console and you can adjust the cable using a 10mm socket and a spanner. Theres a locking nut and one for adjusting.

If the rear handbrake shoes need tweaking, easier to quickly watch this:

Finally appeared to sort the creaking from the computer in dashboard.

I also covered the clutch in copper grease spray which stopped it squeaking for 2 days but now it's back. What else can I try?
Bicycle chain grease that contains PTFE. Had to do the same on my MG as part of reg maintenance, found that this type of grease gave the longest results.

I will try that next. How long does it last for you?

I only have to remove 2 screws and a plastic panel to get access to the clutch, I might just get rid of that panel lol not as much effort to grease if it only needs doing everything few weeks.
Have you solved this yet? Remember reading about a solution way back when on the Toyota owners forum, checked my bookmarks and presto:

Worth a try if you haven't already?

My personal opinion on part-worns is that unless I knew the history of them, I wouldn't touch them. I know, it's just my opinion and they are probably fine but I couldn't bring myself to risk it.

Take a look at Nexen tyres. Used to be a budget make but are getting a rep for being a decent tyre and becoming oem for some car manufacturers. I fitted 4 of their all-seasons to my shed last week and they seem great.

Items 5-10 on your list are all stuff you should be able to sort yourself and will keep you happy with the car.

Keep up the good work (and the updates). Still need to start my own thread.

Benji, do you get idling issues with yours when you start it up on a cold morning? Mine has started to hunt around on idle when it is cold and has stalled on a couple of occasions after dropping too low. Seems to clear up after a couple of minutes.

I note your comment about a headlight restoration on yours - I did the same thing to mine and they came up lovely. Didn't take too much work.

I've also had a good look at a rear light cluster - they are attached by three nuts which you need to undo. I thought there were only two but there is a third one which I didn't initially spot. Once off there was so much water sloshing around it was unbelieveable!

No, not managed to solve the water issue yet. I have to say I'm still none the wiser as to how it is getting in.

Sounds like my idling issue is slightly different to yours. Result on the bumper clip smile

+1 for Nexens, they seem to offer the performance of a really good mid range for the price of a ditchfinder. I have them on our daily family bus and won´t bother with partworns again. 215/60 r16 for €56 a corner.

If you want a solid mid-range tyre, go for Barums. I had a couple fitted to the rear axle of a 200bhp Merc Coupe I owned a while back, and they were excellent - way better than their price would suggest.

When my Jag needs new tyres, they'll almost certainly be Barums (unless somewhere's doing a buy-one-get-one-free on premium rubber!)

I bought an s max fitted with zetas, absolutely horrible. Replaced them after a few thousand miles with Uniroyals and the car was completely different.
I’d try the nexens
