Have a search for evergreen or davanti tyres. We fit them at work as a budget alternative. Hankook kinergy eco are a good tyre unsure on the price range We've got them on the missus kia.

Plenty of shouts for the nexens.

Anyone heard of Apollo tyres?

They have released a new tyre on black circles called the aspire XP which has ratings of C for fuel and A for wet handling. 65 quid a corner seems a good shout fitted.
What's your tyre size, Benji? In many years buying tyres, I've found that some manufacturers are cheaper for certain sizes than others.

That may end up dictating which brand of rubber you go for.

Nexen's in that size are £47.55 each at Camskill. Or you could go for Camskill unknown brand at £33.95 each if you like to gamble!!

You could also try part worns as the fella earlier suggested if you really want to keep costs down. I've done it once on mine and they were fine. Got a couple of Conti Sportcontacts with loads of tread fitted at a lower cost per tyre than the Camskill unknown brand tyres.

I've used Kormoran tyres, which are Michelin. Also Gislaved tyres, which are Continental. Both made in Europe.
Sava Tyres are Goodyear/Dunlop, but never used these.

Lots of opinions on tyres here (I even added my own, just to confuse things hehe).

There is, however, a simpler approach. I've said this on other threads (probably more than once, such is my memory), but when it comes to shedding, always go for the second cheapest tyre at your supplier/fitter of choice.

In other words, not ditchfinders, but not ContiPremiumContacts, either.

Job done. thumbup

Well I've had a good look at my 5 alloys and tyres. Bad news. I expected to rescue at least 2 of them but I really don't want to.

They either have sidewall damage, dodgy looking repairs or the rubber is perished dramatically. oh and one is a Chinese part worn.

So 4 new tyres needed. I ain't buying 400 quid of premiums on a 1k car. Nexens are gonna be 206 delivered plus paying someone to fit them.

Kumho ecsta hs51, this tyre gets a good write up in tyre reviews, I can get a set for 240 from tyre leader. Then I get them fitted locally. For an extra 30 odd quid it might be a safer bet than nexens.
Funnily enough my shed needs four tyres as well and I am looking at the Kumho Ecsta HS51s too. £212 for a set (205/55/16) fitted from blackcircles with the £10 discount they are currently doing. A set of chinese ditchfinders is only £9 a corner cheaper so a no brainer as far as I am concerned.

Try asda tyres on line you pick your tyre then your fitter and time, and the price you see is all in fitted and balanced with old tyre disposal

Nexen are a decent tyre and are used as OEM on some brands I believe.

This review puts them 7th out of 12 but above Bridgestone, Toyo and Vredstein which isn't too shabby.

I've had Kumho Ecsta le sports on my Avensis before, they're actually pretty decent tyres. Didn't wear amazingly well, and aren't anywhere near Uniroyal RS3s in the wet - but were also significantly cheaper!
Interesting about the water in the lights, luckily I've thus far mostly avoided any unwanted water ingress, but every time I give it a wash I always clear all the drains. Only time I've had any water in is when the rubber seal perished on one of the doors and started to let water pool on the door sill... Luckily it didn't actually get into the car as the sill is recessed! Local Mr T dealership fitted a fresh one (the glue is nasty stuff) and it's been good for the last few years!

Turns out I can't even go for those Uniroyal tyres, the load rating is wrong! The uniroyals are 87 load rating, my car need at least 88, that's fking annoying.

Do the RS3 even come in an 87 load rating in our size? Just checked and mine are 215/50R17 V 95... And you're on the same size alloy as me, unless your steelies are smaller?

Noticed something strange with the car this morning. I parked up at work and engine was idling, I then closed my driver's window and as I pulled the switch my revs dropped. It happens over and over again.

Watch the video for demo https://streamable.com/83a4j

What could cause that? Is it normal?
Wow you really are new to shedding hehe
It's just the engine being loaded up by the current draw from the windows, not an issue

They'll be fine. Is it the Nblue Eco's?

I got the Nblue 4seasons on mine and after driving through a shocking amount of snow, slush and large puddles this morning on the way to work - I am well impressed with them.

Boot struts went on mine last year as well. They got weaker over time but eventually wouldn't hold up the boot at all! Thankfully not a costly repair as you have found out.

Anyone want to know what Toyota charge for a pair of struts for your hatchback?

215 pounds plus fitting!

If anyone knows where I can get a reasonable set for the hatchback please let me know. The ones I got from eBay didn't fit, apparently they are for a saloon version, the company kindly gave me a refund and didn't even want me to return the struts!

What do you think about that engine? I'm thinking of buying a rav4 with that same engine, so can you recommend it?

It seems ok to me. Not exactly quick but if u get revs up to 4k it pulls nicely, there is also some low down torque which is nice.

It is better for just cruising around in as opposed to hammering.

Mine also uses oil. Top it up with about half a litre every 6 weeks or so. I've done over 2k miles since January when i bought it.
How much it consume oil? What is your mpg?

I need reasonable strong unit with high reliability and good'ish mpg. We have a long and harsh winters, so reliability is he key. I have a Supra for hammering.
