Discussion
Decided to add tyre pressure monitoring today (possible as it has DSC Mk60).
I used PA Soft:
It worked fine and took minutes to do. However there’s no reset switch unless you fit one (one wire to the DSC according to a search). The other way to reset is via diagnosis software. This didn’t work as it seems the PA Soft coding had left out this parameter.
You can add the pressure monitoring with NCS but my NCS isn’t working. So I uncoded it. Not a very exciting update!

Nice to see it chugging on! I've just hit 192k in my M57 engined 35d. I think my prop bearing/guibo needs doing - did you have a vibration like going over a rumble strip on peak torque acceleration? Mines come on recently and is getting worse rather quickly.
Is it an auto?If it is, sounds like a torque converter to me, I had the same, its transmission out time.
They are £200-250 plus fitting, as well as all the other stuff that's found when you fit it. Guibo, new prop centre bearing, and the gearbox may have worn out valving… and on it goes…
Rebuilt 5L40e's are £2,200 fitted, guess how I know....
After the remap I had a judder in 3/4/5th gear as peak torque arrived.
I changed the clutch, dmf, prop bearing and prop coupling. The judder was reduced but still present. My thought is that the torque is too much for the flywheel. I returned to the mapper and had the power and torque reduced, down to 250hp and 550Nm.
Despite this there is still a slight judder at peak torque. I could ignore it but those who have read my threads know I like to do things properly.
My solution is a 6 speed conversion from the later 330d. So far I have a gearbox, diff, prop and the all important 6 speed badge for the gearknob!
The 6 speed has a stronger flywheel which has been used without problems up to around 300hp/640Nm.
I’ll get a new clutch and dmf as funds allow. All seals and bushes etc will be changed before fitment to keep everything tight and leak free.
I know it’s a lot to spend on an old E46, but labour is free and I don’t have the cash for an E91. Having driven a 335d E91 recently I’m quite happy to keep mine and enjoy it. Pictures of shiny old parts to follow.

Stick with the e46, you can’t go wrong with a good one which you clearly have!!
Some of the 6 speed conversion parts,
Diff:
Prop:
Gearbox:
Recently replaced centre bearing and prop coupling on the used prop were recently replaced. However they were replaced with Meyle chocolate items so are scrap and cracked already. My 535d prop coupling will go on with a new Febi centre bearing.
The 6 speed box has a leak from the selector shaft seal, I have a spare one on them shelf so will change that too.

Great work being done here. Wish I had your level of skill and knowledge.

This is what £50 at your local BMW dealer buys:
Gearbox bushes and assorted bits. They all combine to give an as new gearchange.
All fited to the box and linkage today. Fitted pics to follow.
I'm often surprised how reasonable some bits are (for older BMWs) direct from the dealer rather than online/eBay etc.Gearbox bushes and assorted bits. They all combine to give an as new gearchange.

I got paid to learn how to fix them! An apprenticeship then Technician training. I then ran my own business for a few years. My last three cars have been E46s. Pics to follow as the IPhone update is crashing.
