New MOT today:

I knew I had some un straight wheels. They balance ok so they can stay, I can’t really justify lovely strong Style 68s.

Likewise the front dampers can stay for a bit longer. They were replaced with Sachs items before I bought the car. They haven’t lasted long.

Ideally I’d have a pair of B6s, they truly transform the ride quality.

Always a good result. Covered many miles between tests?

New front top mount and bump stop and cover arrived, all Febi Bilstein stuff as it’s usually quite good:

Bump stop has the BMW part No on it

I also have new top mount nuts and damper rod nut. You only need the centre nut but I like new parts.

Locating pin removed from the mount to allow me to set the camber to my taste (a little more neagative than the factory set up).

Enjoying the thread Helix. I’ve been running a 330d touring for the last 4.5 years and have spent a bit keeping it maintained and in good health. Currently running a hybrid turbo.

I’m aiming to change the clutch and DMF over the coming weeks and wanted to check the part numbers of the LUK kit with you. Can you confirm these were the parts you bought when changing your clutch?

- E60 clutch LUK 624334500
- e46 DMF LUK 415035910

Cheers,

Cheers,
Glad you’re enjoying the thread. Yes, those are the parts I have for the 6 speed conversion. They won’t fit a 5 speed car unless you fit the 6 speed box. You’ll need flywheel and clutch bolts too, if the box is out it’s worth changing all the gear linkage bushes and white collar too. Also the prop coupling and centre bearing if they’re not recent.

Brill thanks replying. Yes i have a 2005 model with a 6 speed box. Just had all 6 injectors refurb’d, car runs like a dream except for the flywheel which is grumbling at low revs. Done 161k so due a change!

Good advice on the bolts and linkages!

How much power and torque does your car have with the hybrid?

Well I’ve yet to dyno it but we think it’s about 300 bhp and 500nm of torque. I’d love to stick it on one once I’ve fitted a new clutch and flywheel to see what it’s really putting out. Car is also running a larger intercooler but i don’t know how much it’s really adding to the performance if I’m honest, no doubt it’s meant to help the intake temps stay cooler. Running a gbwtuning map.

Your car is a very clean and a nice example! I love e46’s, great cars!

It’s my third E46 now, re your figures you probably have a fair bit more than 500Nm, that’s what a Superchip gives on a 184. Mine currently has 250hp and 550Nm, it was 262/607 but was detuned to save the dmf.

With the 6 speed box I can go back to or increase the last map figures.

GBW Tuning (GKR. Performance now) are spoken of very highly among the BMW tuning world.

The first Style 68 is here:

A tatty rear with a budget tyre. It’ll be refurbished in due course.

Anyone want a couple of refurbed 44s?

Old and new wheels:

The rear 68 is a new old stock wheel. I’ll keep the old 89s as a spare set.

Eagle F1 to go on:

Just wondering how better the car drives with 17s on compared to 18s ? as in the last 4 years I’ve had to replace the rear wheels (mv1s) and had to have 2 cracks repaired
. Got speed bumps down my road and the misses hits them pretty hard with no consideration for the old girl

I’ve never had 18s on an E46 I owned but have driven plenty with them on.

I’ll be honest I can’t really remember what difference 17s vs 18s make to the drive. What I do know is that the MV1s/2s are weak and very heavy and the Style 68s are a lot lighter and stronger. They are lighter than the 17” 44s too. Lighter wheels obviously improve handling and ride etc.

I recently changed one headlight for reasons mentioned earlier in the thread.

The lens was in much better condition than the old one, but not perfect. Another poster asked recently about changing E46 headlight lenses. I suggested buying a new gen BMW headlight for a bargain price, as they sometimes pop up.

One did, £27 for a new gen BMW (boxed as Magneti Marelli) non Xenon headlight. I bought and stripped the lens for mine. It is also a rare Titanium line light, fitted to non Sport 330is/Cis for a short time. I removed the Titanium line part and have kept that in case I fancy sourcing a n/s one for a change.

If anyone wants a new facelift o/s halogen headlight with an old lens drop me a pm.

That's interesting as I know someone who had one of his rear MV2s crack recently (it wasn't a runflat tyre either).

And about a month before that a Z4 owner had a rear one crack, although that probably did have a run-flat fitted.

Are they known for cracking? (Shame if they are as I just bought a square set of 8J replica MV2s).

FWIW I'm sure I read somewhere that the lightest 18" rims are the Style 32s, which I think look good too.
