Of course. I hope it keeps going for many miles to come!

Thoroughly enjoying the updates - keep them coming! I said this on a Mondeo thread, but I love a good shed thread.

3,000 miles in. Good shedding to all.

The driver's door strap was noisy as hell. Some grease worked for a short while, but a replacement was needed.

Really easy, cured the problem. £9.99.

The car has also been treated to some Bosch Aero wipers, what with all the fantastic spring weather we've been having.

I've packed some tools into the boot. Quite generous it is, too.

What a greeting when you open the garage.

A second wash...

Delightful.

Manchester's roads were actually pretty unbelievable. I've noticed a rattle from the front end; drop link no doubt.

Next up will likely be the cambelt change. I could do with the piece of mind, plus to get rid of the dephaser noise.

Until next time.

I couldn't resist... so I've performed a couple more things.

Door strap on the nearside (£10, same as before).

And the noisy door latch/lock on the nearside (£20 second hand).

No more odd noises from doors! Again, much easier than expected to work on. Three bolts to the main unit, one screw to the side of the handle and a bit of fiddling.

Good stuff.

Mine just sailed through its taxi test (six monthly enhanced MOT) 204K and just had an oil and filter.
Natural home for the temp needle is just below half in mine. Best £1500 ever back in 2009ish
Wow! How many times has it paid for itself now?!

It's an absolute trooper!

Put a new (ebay special £150) gearbox in it last year when the syncromesh finally gave up and took the casing with it.

It owes me absolutely nothing and I almost feel obliged to keep it for sentimental reasons. But the businessman in me will send it off to the scrappy when it eventually dies.

I'm clearly attracting similar vehicles....

The changes to the car, niggles that have been sorted, certainly have made a difference. They aren't all sorted, though!

I've spoken to a garage about a full cambelt and aux change with genuine parts... £799. No thank you.

Supplying my own parts, genuine Renault, can bring that price down significantly. We shall see.

The car has hit 4,000 miles under my ownership (9th careful owner, don't you know). The new tyres feel great, in the wet and dry, very surprised. The four hour journey down to Devon this week was a breeze. Shame the dephaser is so loud once it is up to temperature.

Until next time.

Because there have been no dash lights or EML on, I hadn't checked the car with a fault code reader.

All clear, good good. Please excuse that horrible grammar.

Whilst away, someone half inched a centre cap... or it fell off (but they are very tight). Four £6.99, sorted.

There was a horrendous rattle from beneath. I checked it out, just a bent exhaust heat shield, touching the exhaust. But while I was there, I could see both back box mounts were knackered (one completely failed, one nearly). £15 for two new items.

The wiper arms looked terrible, very weathered. As the car had delightful new wipers, the arms had £5 on wet and dry paper and some spray paint. Came out well.

Very nice.

The car is still moving. It’s still making me money. A neighbour is in love with it (he’s weird). I think the design of the earlier mark 2s is good. A picture here, in Birmingham. I feel another Renaultsport Clio will join for track use. Who knows.

My father has just spent a month in Turkey. He’s been spotting some Renaults for me...

I had one of these and it was the most comfortable and ergonomically correct car I have ever owned.

Mine was a 1.9dci, and it was also the most unreliable piece of st car I have ever owned. Dual mass fly wheel, clutch, egr, turbo, everything that could go wrong did

Indeed.

It would appear you need to choose the following to get a "good" one of these:

- Manual not auto
- Hatch not estate
- Petrol not diesel
- 2.0 16v or 1.8 16v or maybe the V6 (not including the IDE petrol)
- No sunroof
- Halogens not xenons
- Fewer gizmos the better

Was getting the clutch replaced on my 182 the other day and was chatting with my mechanic. He said the Laguna II is a good car, but at the disposable motoring end of the spectrum - buy cheap and scrap it once it goes wrong...

Shame really, as they are a decent car. Also, I don't mind how they look. Certainly sharper than a 407 or C5 of a similar French sales rep-mobile era!

10/10 for keeping this one going. Looks like a good car!

Whoops. It would appear I’ve purchased another Renault. Behold, the Megane Dynamique Tom Tom 1.5 DCI hatch.

A throughly modern car (although, crucially, pre-FAP). £1,900. Good stuff.

Let us know how you feel about it after changing the cabin filter.

I do love these threads, but I predict swearing when you see what you need to do to get that pesky pollen filter. smile

Ha. Was waiting for that!

I’ve already seen about the pollen filter! Clutch pedal removal... need to take a look.

The Meg isn’t a replacement for the ‘guna, it’s complementary!

I had one of these in 2009. It was only 7 years old and had 46k on it. Some guy traded it for my rather boring MK4 Golf.

I loved the Laguna, it was pretty quick, made a nice noise, handled well and was extremely comfy. The look grew on me and the only problem I had with it was that damn key card which sometimes liked to lock the car with itself inside!

They did a 2.0 gt model with a 2.0 turbo petrol. That might have been quite fun. For £600 this is ideal.
