It was great to meet you on Sunday and admire your Breadvan in the flesh - it's a stunner.
Thank you! But I did buy what seemed like the next best option a couple of years ago - the Z4MC at the PHSS!
I took them I've uploaded all of my photos onto the PH Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/pistonheads/posts/1015828...
Went out for a spin with a mate and his C4S and swapped cars for the drive back. I drove his C4S home which was really interesting.
It didn’t actually feel quicker than the Z and felt like it had marginally less torque. Was my first time driving a 911 so I tried to recall everything I’ve ever read - did the front feel ‘light’, was there huge traction, how good did the flat 6 sound……
Really enjoyed it and the sound was superb. Steering was very communicative but perhaps a tad light for my liking? Traction/grip was epic. Brakes were very good as was stability under braking. Interior quality was poor - the MCoupe is leather everywhere and metal is metal. The 996 interior leaves a lot to be desired! But I really enjoyed driving it and it flowed down a road beautifully.
I was worried as to how my mate had got on in the Z. I love the car and realise not everyone gets it! I shouldn’t have worried as he got out the Z and raved about it for quite some time which was nice - he just loved the mechanical/physical nature of it all and I did think the 911 felt a little more removed, especially the throttle. Everything in the Z is mechanically purposeful from the heavy-ish steering to the gear change and cable controlled throttle bodies - you feel very much part of the experience.
We took turn going in front so the other could ‘watch/listen’ to their car and the Z really is hilarious to watch flow down a road, especially how it squats under acceleration. Is there anything better than watching your favourite car being driven!!
So in conclusion: Came away impressed by the C4S but actually I wouldn’t swap. The Z felt more special overall and hits an emotional spot the porker didn’t quite manage.
Both in the garage perhaps……..

Great evening hooning around Snetterton’s 300 circuit. Haven’t been here for 14 years and I’d forgotten what a great track it is with lots of wicked tight turns after long fast straights.
Plenty of interesting machines to enjoy chasing and watching. Still get the urge for an e90 M3 but the Megane once again showed just how good it is. 3 other Meganes there that evening: 2 standard and the Trophy was a fair bit quicker, especially out of corners and a track prep’d one which spun trying to stay ahead!
Great evening all round and thanks to Ben from Pistonheads for organising.
A car kinda day. Up early for a run to Portsdown Hill with a Porsche friend again. Swapped cars for the return and enjoyed the C4S more this time as I felt more familiar with it.
The real joy though, and I think a lot of car people get this, is watching and listening to your own pride and joy flowing down a good road! The little Z looks stupidly low and fat and sounds fantastic rev’d through!
Then a quick wash and two tiny subtle but satisfying mods for the Meg. A smaller plate and a pH smiley. Only been sitting on the side for 3 months!
The smaller plate is subtle but I think makes a big difference - the normal one distracted too much from the ‘Trophy’ on the blade.
