Alfa 159 1750 tbi (208000 miles)
Discussion
That’s lovely. Although I’m also biased https://flic.kr/p/ZxYE1X mines a Lusso though. It’s done 65k and I’ve spent £5k on maintenance in the last 18 months

What an experience!
Lovely looking machine though, might I ask what you paid?

Go on then.... how cheap was it?

A lesson on how not to buy a car! I do admire your persistence though. I hope it was cheap!

A tbi ti sw is the ultimate 159 and they usually go for 4x the price of a normal one so my imagination assumes you got some sort of bargain :-)
It was cheap in terms of it being the cheapest 159 ti wagon I've spotted (they're not common) but knowing how mileage decimates a trade guide price I'm not convinced it was cheap, cheap. Before I say, be interested to know what you all would have paid / think it's worth.

Good work, but i may be a tad biased as this is my current daily:

2.4 diesel though. Which currently also needs quite a few things fixing......
Very nice and pretty much what I was thinking of when I started to consider 159's rather than GT's. What does it do mpg wise? - My 156 20v was averaging 46mpg and nearly 60mpg on the M-way.2016-12-04 15.45.38 by Chrisga, on Flickr

5k and you've not been able to fix that hole in the bonnet for that?! :PSeriously though, 5K?! What have you had done?!

Hopefully it’ll give me a break for a while. Oh and the bonnet hole increases cooling.

Huge kudos for going to such effort with this car.
And going through with the purchase.
I'd have walked (ran!) away from 'Jay'. If people keep buying cars from him when he treats them, and them, like that, he's going to continue to think that it's acceptable behaviour.
PS - looks smart as a carrot. Really good looking, these 159's.
The only criticism of the 156 Sportwagon I had was the height of the boot space as the roof tapers rather heavily.
Yeah, I think you're right about the seller, but when you've invested 150 miles worth of fuel and time to look at plus the same again to collect and you have a deposit loose, it becomes far more difficult to make that choice. Of course he knew that and being a odious character, took full advantage of it.And going through with the purchase.

The boot is huge! And the opening bigger than my old 156's or the saloons. My brother has a brand new 335d x drive estate, will have a look at how it compares when I get the chance.

I can only stand in awe of the effort you and your dad put into these cars, amazing stuff!
I'd have walked away from a seller like that though
Thanks! I'd have walked away from a seller like that though

A lot of that was preventative maintenance. I had the dreaded M32 bearing of death noise, so had it rebuilt with a new clutch, clutch slave cylinder and DMF. At the same time I had the subframe treated and polybushed the upper arms. That plus a pair of tyres and an oil and filter came to £3700. It’s recently spent a month off the road with a fuel pressure fault which required a new high pressure pump, which with a service came to nearly £1000. Then it blew a coolant hose so replaced that along with a new expansion tank.
Hopefully it’ll give me a break for a while. Oh and the bonnet hole increases cooling.
Crazy money! Kudos to you for sticking with it though. Subframe is next on my list - nothing obvious beyond some surface rust though. (Famous last words...)Hopefully it’ll give me a break for a while. Oh and the bonnet hole increases cooling.

It's absolutely dreadful on fuel (we had a 156 2.4 and a 147 1.9 diesel before to comapre to). I'd get about 47mpg out of the 147 on the same journey. Am getting about 35-37ish on my commute. Mix of A-road, dual carriageway and in the evening usually a solid 10mins of stop start traffic. It also has a few of the usual 159 JTD issues that I need to address when I get round to it. ££££££££££ But I forgive it because, well just look at it.......
Today was the 1st day I've been able to drive it so It's difficult to tell but I think I was getting 28mpg out of mine!Richard-390a0 said:
