So long as it's a well executed and coherent plan to create the car you want, fill your boots.
I wouldn't have done what you have myself - I would be too taken by the 'last of the nieuw-classe line' story - but I admire your engineering skill to do it.
What would have been a travesty would be an ill thought-through, badly executed lash-up based on whatever was lying around the workshop
I totally agree with this! The reason I picked the car I did was it being a 1502 with no waist chrome and it was very rusty. I feel doing this to a clean Tii wouldn’t have been something I would have wanted to do! I really did want to make the m42 work but it would have been extremely expensive to engineer it to the S42 spec and less reliable and useable than the K.
I think maybe in cool factor it would have won though. My main issue with that Engine was clearance for a proper exhaust due to the steering box... which I later removed

Interesting thread...I have always liked the 02s, in fact a friend has a 1502 in Colorado Orange ( I think that is the correct code !) that needs a little TLC.
Apparently the 1502s are quite rare: all the interest is in the 2002/Ti's etc
It is completely standard, and it gets used rarely.
I always said if he ever wanted to move it on then I would be interested....but it does have some rust issues.
He also has a spare 2002 engine, that another pal was interested in putting in his rear engined Lotus 23B 'replica'.
This last idea was shelved due to the costs involved in tuning the 2002 engine for racing: apparently the upgrade parts are very expensive for that BMW engine !
I would keep the bodywork more or less standard, as in the white example above that IMHO looks stunning.
Keep the colour of yours ( if original !) , and definitely no rear wing...!!
Then you would have a 'Q' car that would surprise people.
But then as has been said above, you have rescued it so you can do as you wish !!
Keep the photos and updates coming.

The 1502 to me is a good looking car. Many people love the chrome waistline but personally I prefer it without. It’s a good base to build from!
A lot of cars from the period were developing aerodynamics and were exaggerated with big arches and wings splitters etc.. the kit I have fits with that making the car significantly wider! I will make the wing and if I feel it doesn’t work remove it but with the race livery and body I’m sure it will work
I understand the whole sleeper thing being cool but I’m already way beyond that and it cannot be disguised

Heathen!
Should have carried out a full and sympathetic restoration using certified BMW heritage screenwash and new old stock crossplies.
Preserving a slow, dated, uncomfortable saloon and sitting on deckchairs in fields whilst wearing a scowl would be infinitely more enjoyable than turning it into a nutter-bd rev monster that goes, stops, steers, spits flames, and makes you grin like an idiot whilst winging it round a circuit on its door handles.
I see no sense in your decision whatsoever.
...but I've bookmarked this thread anyway and will continue to not enjoy it even one little bit.
