This was the first Porsche I ever drove. It was so far ahead of any other hot hatch / sports car that'd i'd driven at the time. The control weights and chassis balance were just perfect. It just begged to be driven hard. I'd have one in a heart beat at the current prices if I had the space.
Classic colour scheme. Well done. Enjoy!

This thread is most timely as I've been looking at old Boxster's again recently. Cmoose you were very informative a couple of years back when I was being tempted by cheap 2.5 Boxsters (£2500 at the time). I didn't buy one then but frequently get the itch and I do love the 986 3.2S. In a world of £10,000 944S2s, it just seems criminally cheap...

I remember the EVO performance test of 2000 when the Boxster (the 2.7 I think) was quicker around the wet handling circuit than any car (4x4 rally specials included). I recall a great comment made by one of the writers. It was something like "The Boxster made all the FWDers feel like dogs with broken back legs..." Great comment I thought!!

Look forward to reading progress...

Love these. Just wish they made a bit more power and torque.

You can get +20 to 25 bhp quite comfortably with some sensible and cheapish mods. I just bought some 200 cell cats for a bit under £240 for example.

Regarding the power discussions above, I must admit the 3.2S is nice in that there is power, and under most circumstances you can power through most corners quite spiritedly without needing to worry about not dying which is nice.

Don't be alarmed if you find yourself turning into an anorak. I for example noticed there is some rust on my exhaust mid pipes which I am not happy about.. lol

Just some? If your car has been used in any sort of wet weather then the cats and manifold will have a nice even layer of surface rust and most of the clamps and bolts will be rusted unless recently replaced.

£ per bhp the eBay ones work a treat. Used twice now and would use again.

Circa £110 for a pair of the eBay manifolds. £250 ish for 200 cell cats from same sort of suppliers. 996 throttle body and if a bit more adventurous 987 airbox. Not much north of £500 for the lot.

I would do the manifolds in a heartbeat on mine, changing exhaust parts and manifolds is something I've never shied away from before. Its just when I started reading about the issue of bolts snapping in the heads I got all panicky.

Car looks good though CMoose!

I recall going in the early 250 brake models with a friend who had one, i recall 3rd feeling very brisk, but then it sort of ran out in 4th. They do sound amazing though and i hear you can fit gt3 plenums/air intakes for some pretty good performance gains, have only ever seen one boxster in the adverts for sale with this mod - i think the kits fairly expensive, releases a good 30 brake though...

I remember the gearing being similar to my 997 C2S so is that 95/99 in 3rd and then 120/125ish in 4th. Maybe a shorter final drive if such a thing exists?

You don't need a remap but it can give you that little bit extra.

Also with the eBay manifolds the car feels much freer and revs quite nicely and cleanly to the limiter.

The 987 3.2 had 280bhp right so it can't be too hard to get to that.

Just lots, the manifold to mid pipe bolts are almost non-existent...

Never mind the inevitable flange stud snappy saga
