To be fair, that’s all true. The hood in particular is a mare. Once it’s stretched fully I plan to leave it down most of the time and I have a nice padded tonneau cover for it.

And I do love an Alfa. But I wanted something British after having had so many German cars over the years. Maybe one day...

Oh that's lovely!

Have a goal to a GT before the end of the year, purely because it will live outside and a Roadster wouldn't work great. Would love a Roadster though, roof down during lovely weather and you'll be living life to the fullest!

Thanks for that. To be honest, while a garage is obviously best, I think that MGs lend themselves more to being kept outside than many classic cars. Parts are cheap and easy to get. The cars are simple and you can get good covers from the Club. So I’d say go for it. And if you want a Roadster, the Club shop will sell you a hood protector to keep the sap and bird lime etc. off the hood for when a full cover is a pain.

If you get a good car from the off and look after it, you should be fine.

By way of final encouragement, there’s a chap near me with a DB7 under a cover outside his cottage. And that looks pretty good to me when it rumbles past!

This was mine...1973 GT with O/D and tinted windows.

I suppose I was then spoiled when I got this.. a 1970 Elan S4 DHC...It belonged to my uncle who rebuilt it with a new chassis.

Although the Elan was quick ( even by today's standards ) it always felt very fragile...Weighed about 700kg !!

In comparison the MG always felt very solid.

Which was why I asked about getting some engine mods done on your lovely 'new' B !

I am sure that supercharging your B would be very interesting indeed!

Yeah,if I had a garage it would 100% be in there. Sadly, the only way I could get a garage is to rent off the council, on the other side of town (where garages and lock-ups get torched regularly). Obviously not really an option.

Mhm, I will have a look and see whether a roadster is viable. With a few "optional extras" (if that makes sense)

I plan on getting the absolute best car for my budget, getting a cheaper one is a false economy! As I'm sure you know.

I completely agree with that approach. I looked at a few and many of those needed quite a lot of work. People more expert than me will be able to tell you where the rust hides (the turret sections is one place I know of). Finding a good one in the first place will save a lot.

Having said that, it’s all about condition rather than price. I saw some that were really quite expensive but would have needed a lot doing. Joining MGOC or the MG Car Club is worthwhile for research. Happy hunting!

Overtook a mint Elan Sprint today, first one I've seen on the road in years. Tiny little thing, beautiful. I do envy my Dad who had the chance to own these cars at the time, he had an Elan, but the car he really regrets selling was a Fulvia.

A46 heading to Coventry in case anybody knows the car.

Well done to the OP, very nice looking car.

Thanks!

The engine is fully rebuilt but only lightly upgraded.

I did think about a fast road cam, but was advised against it unless making other tuning modifications up to Stage 2 at the same time.
I added an electric fan, K&N filters, a stainless steel exhaust and improved manifold and a brake servo. The head is converted to unleaded.

I am aware of a supercharger kit from Moss, but am concerned it might detract from the experience more than it would add to it. A V8 was out of budget, but would have been nice!

By the way, this part of PH is great. Like the Barge thread, it’s populated by decent people who like cars and don’t seem to descend into daft spats. Wish I’d found it sooner.

I feel like a cheat having bought the car fully rebuilt rather than doing the work myself. Sadly I have neither the time nor the skill. I have been reading the SD1 Vitesse thread and the skill demonstrated there is amazing. As is the car. That said, I will post some build pics up when I get them from CCH shortly.

You may not see this, Andy, since its 3 years since last post, but I have just ordered a new build MGB Roadster from CCHL. I got an unexpected inheritance and thought i'd treat myself in my old age. I worked up a spec partly based on the BGT I sold in 2019 using knowledge gained over the years.

Hi Westyman2 Like yourself also recently ordered a roadster from Simon at CCHL. Looked at Andys spec a copied a few items to my build. My only problem I have is the colour changed my mind 4 times so far. When is your build?

I have a 1967 MGB that I'm looking to paint, and I have decided to go with silver. Are you able to provide any details on the color you chose, preferably the paint code? It look great! Thanks!
