To some a cars a car... To others it's a hobby...
But why am i now thinking of V8 Beetle convertibles??? Lol
Indeed. Mine has to be a tool out of necessity. It’s kept reasonably clean and tidy but I can’t afford the level of attention to detail that you’ve gone to But why am i now thinking of V8 Beetle convertibles??? Lol
They used to do one (beetle) with the V5 engine, which was quite nice compared to the usual 4 pots they came with. Still not a v8 though.

To be fair I've probably gone overboard a bit but i can't stand a half arsed job... They used to do one (beetle) with the V5 engine, which was quite nice compared to the usual 4 pots they came with. Still not a v8 though.
The did also do a V6 4motion RSi version too if my grey cells are correct but yes, still not a V8.... I'm sure some loon somewhere on the planet has though haha

The black roof does look good. I hope you will be washing it carefully yourself and not risking the local hand wash !
Looking forward to see pics of it on the new springs.
Ps. Apologies for the New Beetle thread derail
I wouldn't even send the works vans to the local wash so no worries there...Looking forward to see pics of it on the new springs.

No meed to apologise for any thread drift lol
got her back home safe and sound.... chuffed is an understatement.....
I never took an image of the interior after it was cleaned, sadly no before, it looked disgusting, truly grimy and unloved....
there was a thick slimy grime all over everything and the carpets had that sticky just died in feel.... (shudders....)
Now I can start tweaking more....

Looks like a new car!
I’ve never driven a CC, are they like a regular Passat to drive? I’m beginning to look ahead to my next motorway beater in a year or two’s time. Something quiet and refined with a decent seat for 3-4 hour journeys is my criteria.
As I have had a normal 2014 Passat i'd like to say I have good authority on how they compare.... the longer wheelbase coupled with the magnetic suspension actually makes it feel more refine, a lot.....I’ve never driven a CC, are they like a regular Passat to drive? The more rakish windscreen makes it feel more sporty (I can't think of the word I want to use)
It is physically bigger so takes up more space....
My only criticism is that it's seats are no where near as good as my S5's, it doesn't hug the shoulders as well as i'd like but still makes for effortless miles on the motorways, the factory touchscreen satnav, phone prep etc are superb, although I do need to do a software update on this along with new maps....
One weird thing which was never an option on the UK versions was the push to talk for speech dialogue on the hands free, simple coding change courtesy of VCDS and it all works as it should.... it's there, just not turned on.
I am trying to sort out the codings so that I don't have to press the brake pedal every time I want to release the handbrake, I know it is possible as I've turned it off on every Audi I've had with the electric handbrake, I've just not worked out the coding yet....

Have you checked out the condition of the brake piston seals? I've just had a rather large bill for two new rear calipers after the seals failed, allowing water to ingress, rusting and seizing the pistons.
did the rear brakes about 20 minutes after getting it home, first thing looked at was the condition of the pistons....Nice car and great engine, brother had the 170 in his Leon FR and it pulled nicely, with a remap, this thing should be quite potent, at first I was wondering why you were doing what you were doing and as I kept on reading and saw the finished product, I was like, fk me, with every picture, I felt more satisfied, imagine how you feel!
Great job, keep us updated and good luck! I love me a detailed readers car thread, thank god for PistonHeads

I thought it was a Bentley model code. Why would anyone spend so much on second car to protect / covet a regular Audi? I would get it if it were something super rare but an S5?
Why not buy a car in better condition in the first place, rather than polishing a turd?Edited by rlg43p on Tuesday 16th October 23:05

It is exactly that, a simple run of the mill executive saloon that I can drive the doors off, meet clients and enjoy sorting the details out.
Whilst I won't go into specifics the cost for the paint won't give me any change from £4k.
Better to use the CC to meet clients than the Bentley lol
But for an extra 4k you could have got a much better conditioned newer example with lower miles and no fking about?Whilst I won't go into specifics the cost for the paint won't give me any change from £4k.

This isn't man maths, it's monkey maths.
