Peter has been busy being creative again, bespoke finishing touches are always welcome.

So he fired up the lathe

Sadly it will be covered by the air scoop but we will know it's there and it finishes off the boot nicely.

Also started work on the gearbox, adding new thrust washer and clutch slave cylinder

Reprimered the boot, and door handles in green now

Sadly not this summer but hopefully by the end of this year.

The car is not a million miles off going into paint, we also 75pct there with regards to having all the bits for the engine rebuild, in addition to this still need to complete the rear cover, work out exactly how the areo type screen will fit then just put it all back together... Brakes suspension etc. are mostly ready to go on.

Bit of an update, further painting and more work on the buck/mould for the rear cover, will let pictures do the talking.

That is looking treeeemendous, you're making a cracking job of it.

I might be in the market for one of your fibreglass engine covers, if you're happy to sell one. A recommended windscreen repair person came out to have a go at putting resin in my spider crack. As the resin went in a crack made a run for it, fortunately it's towards the passenger pillar. But I'm not sure any MOT tester is going to be happy with it. Aero screen here I come!

Cheers thumbup

I am sorry to hear that ref your screen, it is a real shame they aren't more easily available.

Ref the engine cover, it is a bit early to say if we can sell you one as we don't have one finished ourselves yet ! But leave it with me...

The buck/mould is almost ready as per below pictures, the paint on the car is more for practice than the final job but with one door hung back on I am very pleased with the colour choice. Last engine bits now on their way from Japan so hopefully can start putting that back together soon.

This really should be something quite special and unique upon completion. Please say that when it's done you'll bring it along to some PH meets for us to all admire.

The red Type R badge looks lovely against the green, and it's said that red and green should never be bedfellows.

On the Type R subject, and it may have been covered (or maybe I've even asked!) are you planning any performance mods?

Thanks for the positive comments.

Yes it will definitely make an appearance at a PH event at sometime in the future, probably next year on a sunny day !

Engine performance mods not really apart from the slight oversize forged pistons which we had to use as the engine needed a rebore so we maybe getting close to 700cc now instead of the standard 660cc. A freer flowing and hopefully cooler air filter/intake set up with the help of our little air scoop plus a new exhaust will be about it for now. The best performance gains will hopefully come from 'adding lightness' as per the words of the great man himself Colin Chapman.

It will be interesting to see what it weighs in the end.. im guessing just sub 700 kilos. I must tell Peter to go easy on the paint wink

on the note of performance, would another Honda engine, say an EP3 Type R or S2000 lump possibly fit in it?

Thank you. I can't wait to see yours all done, it coming on a storm. My project Beat is taking a rest for a short while, as it now looks like the rear wheels are not parallel, and I've not had time to investigate it yet.

Keep up the great posts :-)

Decided there was not much point keeping the heater matrix, blower and the remainder of the A/C gubbins. Quite surprising how much of it is tucked up inside the dash.

There is an amazing amount of stuff hidden in the underbelly of the Beat. Are you going to keep the stereo and speakers? Someone has put a pointy thing right through the screen of my stereo, so if you are going to remove it, I'll happy take whatever you'd like to more on.

dash speakers will probably be shot by now, mine were along with the bass speaker. replaced the whole lot.

have 2 pics of the proverbial Rocking Horse stuff....

that is probably 5-6mm thick in the centre so someone did a proper job on it?

or did they break the board screen as well?

sitting in a box in spare room so surplus to me as i now have this fitted, just needs a little bit of tidying as the sun has got to homemade surround

You might regret that!! Having spent many an hour driving a Caterham on the road without a heater, I can’t recommend it!

Wow, what is that, it looks to fit very well?

Apparently some kids got into the where the car was being stored. They smashed the back lights, still to be sorted, and put a screwdriver through the stereo. The stereo does still seem to work, however they also snapped the areal off, so reception is not crisp! Are you in the UK?

Sorry to see the vandalism to your stereo but good that a fellow Beat owner may come to your rescue, I am not even sure mine fully works either, I have a load of old cassettes which would be cool to play in the car should it work, assuming we can hear it !

With regards to heater removal we are keeping it all for a while 'just in case' but I had a car without a heater for many years too and provided I was dressed for the cold can't say it bothered me too much, or I may add these to the seats at some point.
