I’ve spent a long time thinking about this too. It’s like the Alanis Morrisette (or however you say her name) song ‘Ironic’. I’ve got a load of nice cars, lots of free time now on my hands but yet don’t have the health to enjoy it. Well not just yet anyway.
I’ve just come to the end of my working life now, gave up my job role and positions within my companies. So starting next week it’s the start of MY recovery. I’m just going to spend my time meditating, doing yoga, training, sleeping and I’m also looking at Stem Cell treatment for the missing part of my brain. It’s a recovery similar to a stroke I guess.
I know I can get myself better but it’ll just take lots of time.
The one solace I take from my ‘previous’ hectic life is that I have the money and freedom of time to get myself better. Unfortunately for some they’re not so lucky.
They say that 1 out of 2 people will get some form of cancer or worse in their lifetime. Well I think I’ve had mine, just at an early age.
Besides I’m not bothered about myself anymore, it’s all about the kiddies and what I can do for them.
To good health.

Mate it doesn’t matter what others have got, you’re doing well by the sounds of it too. I’ve got mates that are 37 and living at home with their parents. My wife’s uncle is 52 and still lives at home with his folks. As long as you’re happy that’s all that matters.

I echo other peoples sentiments about you being an inspiration and hope that you can do some serious relaxing and recovering! It sounds like you have crammed in a whole working life into the 'relatively' short amount of time that you have done so far, That burning of the candle at both ends takes a toll so getting out as soon as you can deffo makes sense. I have still got another 30 years to go so wish I had applied myself in a similar way to you but you live and you learn haha..

Obviously I don't know you from Adam, but I'm interested how someone as driven as you are/were goes to being "retired" so young even with your health issues.

Whatever happens as long as you're enjoying it and keep on with the good karma stuff.

My grandfather was a very wise man, I just try to emulate him.

I will get them to film it next time.

Are you free in the next 2 weeks to go out in the LFA & CGT. The weather is finally getting there now. Just need to message Giblet now then we’re hot to trot.

I know Adam, he’s a good guy haha. If you’re interested in how then go back through this thread and the other one, I mention it a few times in them both as it’s a frequently asked question. There’s no secret to it though, it’s just one key fundamental to it, “never stop moving forward, no matter how many knocks you take, never stop”

Firstly, great name.

And I definitely second the ‘life is too short’ sentiment.

I find the concept of work to be a strange one. We are born, have approximately 10-11 years to Dick about, then we spend the next 5 years studying like mad to pass some exams that literally will only make a difference to 0.01% of the participants life. After that we are pigeonholed into only 2 relevant boxes. Box 1 = further education (where less than 5% of the students will apply their new vocation to the relevant career)
Box 2 = go straight to work where debt soon consumes them and traps them in the ‘Rat Race’.
There’s no Box 3 or >
There’s always a no job option living on welfare. But that’s like Hades for the masses.
Then there’s the very rare option like yourself, you can take yourself off the grid and live your own life, not predetermined by the status quo of the industrialists.
I just find life very very weird, almost noir in its humour.
Having a tumour has changed many things in my life but none more than allowing me to step further off the peripheral field to allow myself to look from the outside in.
But hey it’s all a fun game at the end of the day haha.

With a toddler and a new-born?

Good luck with that, you might have launched into your most ambitious challenge yet!! hehe

Jokes aside, hope you get back to decent health quick. Seems like you have plans for your money which a lot of worthy causes will benefit from in due course.

One other question Pete, nothing to do with cars so feel free not to reply if you don't want.

Personally, I've always imagined that if I had enough cash behind me, I'd spend a lot of my time travelling around the world and seeing new places, experiencing different ways of life etc.

I'm fortunate that I've been able to do this with my wife on a limited scale. We've been to many countries and thankfully I married the right girl and she also prefers staying in B&B's and going to local bars wherever possible. You get to meet the best people that way.

We are lucky enough to be able to stay in a 5-star hotel if we want, but from my experience they are so anonymous you could be anywhere in the world listening to some fat American complaining that the ice in his drink isn't cold enough or some other bks.

Too much rambling on - getting to the point, is travelling on a grand scale something you've ever thought about or would enjoy?

Appreciate you've got a young family now which might have put the kibosh on it for the next 20 years or so!! Perhaps in your "second retirement" when the kids have got jobs of their own!

Not forgetting 2 bulldogs too. It’s not a problem really though. The little one isn’t so little anymore, she’ll be 4 in August. We will do the same with the new born as what we did with her, full time nursery at 10 months old.
The routine won’t change that much at all. We’ve got cleaners for the house, someone that looks after all the cars, a dog walker for them through the week. The only thing we have to do is cook our food, even then we eat out a lot because we’re always at the Hale country club, so after a workout we eat at the restaurant there. I train whilst the wife takes my daughter swimming there.
Life flows pretty easy that’s why having another one isn’t a problem.

One of the most frequently asked questions, which is understandable. The thing I find about travelling, and trust me I’ve done a lot of it. Is that it’s pretty boring and extremely unsafe now. 10-15 years ago was an awesome time for travelling, now not so great. It all got worse since Syria and Libya.
I used to like driving through France, now I wouldn’t go to that country even if you paid me. It’s like a war torn country itself.
I used to spend a lot of time in Germany, wouldn’t touch it now.
I’ve stopped going to Geneva for the motorshow now because it’s such a sthole. Italy was my number one destination in Europe growing up, I’ve travelled pretty much every part of it. Naples has always been rough but that’s because it’s a port town though. The only time I go Italy now is to race at Fiorano. Sweden is terrifying now. Same with the crime in all the eastern countries in Europe.
I’ve done pretty much everywhere in the world, even random places like Madagascar. The only countries on my bucket list are Japan (which we are doing next year), Lapland (doing this Xmas) and Bora Bora.
After a few days in another country I start to get bored because I’m out of my normal routine, remember I have Autism so I crave routine and structure. It’s like you’re always forced to do something because you’re in a new country, that’s why people put on weight whilst they’re in another country because you wouldn’t eat out so much at home. You always feel knackered when you get home off holiday because you’ve done more than if you would have at home. Plus I hate living out of a suitcase.
And finally, because I don’t have a 9-5 job now I don’t crave that break. Even weekends are a loss to me.

Tbh all I want in life is my house paid off and a manual gallardo superleggera lp570 if there is any about! I don’t even know how you amass all that sort of property by the time your 36, seriously that’s some achievement! Keep up the good work
Agreed, i'm dying to an Elise, it's £32k for the one I want, i'm only £25k short but it's my dream car. If I was fortunate enough to amass/or win such wealth I'd certainly enjoy collecting, but my first purchase would still be an Elise 220 20th Aniversary Edition cloud9

Ah well, maybe by the time i'm 75 biggrin

You’ll love Japan, I went there last year and it’s utterly utterly bonkers.

You’ll probably come back with a LFA Nurburgring edition. If so, dibs on revving that too laugh

Interesting reading that, i've thought the same about France for some time. Whats your thoughts on Germany? I really enjoyed it there (albeit the Nurburgring).

I have a mate in Sweden, it does indeed sound terrifying these days. He lives in a sleepy town, but has gangs of locals and immigrants walking round bored, just looking to fk things up.

Another friend spends half the year in Japan and utterly loves it. He's only 5ft 3" so maybe that's why, but says its such a friendly, clean, fun and interesting place to be.

I love travelling, but do it so rarely, I only ever truly relax when my front door shuts and the dog bounces over to say hello cloud9
