Oh that is handy. Wonder if the same principle works for other cars? Hang on, I'm being thick, aren't I?
Not necessarily. The one I bought had croc clips, an OBD connector & a cigarette light plug. It depends on you car which you can use & I could use the cigarette lighter as it wasn't turned off with the ignition.

I would have thought all the RX400h have the Auto lights on sensor.. on the left 'lights' column, is there a Auto setting? This switches the headlights on as the day gets dark, but its also known to drain the battery if the car is left for a couple of weeks.

as for MPG I get 31-33 depending..
If you really try, how low can you get it? biggrin

For the few who have asked about the transmission choices, only the hybrids used a CVT. The conventional ICE-powered cars used a 5sp or 6sp auto, depending on the year. Same goes for its Toyota-badged Harrier/Kluger twin.

Looks like a lot of car for not so much money and I would be lying if i said the non-hybrid has appeal. The CVT in the hybrid puts me as far off as possible, though my only experiences with them were in under-powered runabouts (Quashqai and 1st Gen Jazz 1.5) and in these cars they were garbage. The slurry effect ruined the driving appeal completely.. A mate of mine reckons they work pretty well with some torque behind them, so maybe with a V6 it is no bad thing?

Gearbox wise it’s fine, it’s never going to be a sports car but it picks up speed well enough. The CVT does not result in a the most sonorous engine note however.

No idea, from a brief search I am not seeing anything unusual - you might get dash error if the piston has been wound back too far when installing the pads. The RX measures the time to resistance, but thats just a code you can clear.
So basically, any competent mechanic can do this? I wouldn't need to take it back to Lexus?

A bit of an aside: I've decided to hold off on buying an RX400H for a couple of years. I think my next car is going to have a V8 in it as this will probably be the last time I will be able to enjoy one in the south east.
Just had discs and pads done all round on our this week at the local garage. Was going to be under £400, but a couple of the callipers needed changing too. They were only £90 each though. Not dear at all I thought. Especially since our 08 car has 107k on the clock and they were the original discs and pads from new! Beat that, big diesel suv!

That's pretty good going, I think the brakes are in decent shape but I guess we'll find out tomorrow what (if any) work is needed.

Back from the mechanics, oil changed and a sticking O/S front caliper unstuck - I'll keep an eye on it as it may need to be replaced in the near future.

We took the Lexus on a family roadtrip to Devon, where I promptly got a speeding ticket! My first ever, luckily they are offering a Safety course instead of points, but the downside is that its only available in Dorset.

10 hours driving there and back for a 3 hour course.

I think it is down to who the local cops have outsourced the training to, if it is someone like the AA then you can go to a local one (I live in Hampshire and went to a course in Surrey for an offence in Bedfordshire), but if it is some smaller outfit then you are more limited in venues.

Oh right.

I wonder if the OPer could register with another service and get a written confirmation from that service that you will be attending?

There didn't seem to be that option, I did ask frown

There's a chance I can do it at Bournemouth, which is a little closer at least.

There's another thread about Dorset SAC probably in SP&L. Seems Dorset aren't part of the national scheme and as such they don't participate in the 'You can only do a SAC if you've not done one in the last three years' rule:

Certainly a weird one, but not much I can do about it - I certainly don't want the points on my license and it's a good excuse for a roadtrip.

Right up until the point where you go through the same speed trap at the same speed. biggrin

And so this morning the journey to the Driver Awareness Scheme began, I departed home at a heady 05:30am to drive down to Sunny Bournemouth.
I decided it was better to arrive well ahead of time then risk the M25, M3 etc on the start of a bank holiday weekend.

I've not done a long distance drive on my own for quite sometime, it was quite refreshing to choose my own music and to be able to pick my own rest stops! It also gave me sufficient time to get a bunch of work stuff done ahead of the course.

Speaking of which, sadly this course does not take place at the Tank Museum, instead our training location is a nondescript industrial estate.

3 hours of awareness fun is about to commence!

What a waste of time.

Could you do a test for me on the way home.

With the battery level displaying for the electric motor, put the A/C on and accelerate hard to 60 (obviously this time in a suitable zone! biggrin ). How many bars do you lose?

I've just renewed 2 more years extended warranty on my is250. The whole cost was 795 GBP for 2 years, coming from over-complicated german brands I think it's a bargain & trouble-free motoring. Still Lexus only does this deal for cars up to 10 years old (max 140k mileage) but I guess it shows that they are quite reliable.
