The Range Racer
Discussion
Also surely a motorsport version of 4wd will be more intelligent in getting a car in and out of a corner better via electronic diffs then a Range Rover could be without major works.
Also lets me honest in the mantra of this project, make as light as possible, 50/50 weight distribution Range Rover taking the front drive system off makes sense

Arent some of the top race cars such as LMP1 going awd now?
I think that's more to do with some of them being hybrid - it opens up more possibilities. They can have AWD by putting an electric motor up there, without the weight and complexity penalty of running a prop shaft to the front, transfer boxes, clutches etc. Porsche ran a front mounted motor, but I think the Toyota is actually RWD even though it's a hybrid. The ICE powered LMP1 are all RWD to my knowledge.Edit: The Toyota has a front motor too, so is in fact AWD.

Well done lads, this is epically bonkers!
Spotted you on youtube in some footage from Castle Combe in September - only a couple of brief spots but the supercharger weeeeeeeeeeeeeee and v8 bwaaarrrrrrrrr is very clear!
https://youtu.be/PgeexunXKak?t=80 - just after the Puma took a spin into the barriers
https://youtu.be/PgeexunXKak?t=107 - and just after the Golf goes for a wee 180 as well
Always enjoy a good Castle Combe crash days video. Spotted you on youtube in some footage from Castle Combe in September - only a couple of brief spots but the supercharger weeeeeeeeeeeeeee and v8 bwaaarrrrrrrrr is very clear!

That Golf R at the end Excellent track etiquette from the driver and a fitting ending.

Which is what I posted a page or so back.
Yes you did state that and I missed it as it was 6 days ago.But the fact that the non-hybrid LMP1 cars are not AWD tells us something about the other factors in the decision making process. I don't think AWD is always better, and we are talking about a range rover track car here!

Its entirely possible that you go rwd and either can't get the power down, or just start destroying diffs and likewise.
Their are LSD diffs available from the offroading world that i suspect would work well. Limited slip diffs all round sound good to me..... you could even put an autolocker (like a detroit) in the rear and have a fully locked rear that only unlocks when required- that would be fun
Motorsports hybrids have elecy motors on the FRONT axle because that is where you can capture the most KE during braking. Trying to brake the rear axle hard leads to a car/barrier interface.........
Given that there are plenty of RWD jags with the S/C V8, it can't be that hard to simply drop in the trans and diff from one of those, making a tough, light (relatively) RWD powertrain.........
(in fact, if you drop off the xfer case an tailcone, you can probably bolt the rwd output shaft straight on in its place??)

Getting rid of the fwd seems a bit daft. It will destroy the handling of what is still a heavy motor. 4wd has always got to be better surely?
Said no one ever unless you're rallying I suppose.OP looks great, I bet that surprises a few people.
You could make a CF bonnet, i'm sure you'd do a much better job than B is for Builds efforts when he attempted a CF Huracan wing.
Have you recouped much of the costs with things like the interior and airbags etc?
It doesn't make you look clever you know, quite the opposite.
It was a bit tongue in cheek pointing out that most people prefer the balance of RWD on a track car.
