My old car with 167M, if you look closely you can see the inner part of the wheel is painted grey/anthracite colour and the face is diamond cut a lacquered. This is the correct factory colour finish.

Hi mate yes would be good to talk offline, ill pm you my mobile. Glad to hear your getting it back on the road, perhaps a few weeks of running in the new engine will convince you to keep it?

Will get some interior pics up, maybe it just because im approaching this from an e39 standpoint but it's pretty well sorted.

Audio wise i *think* its got logic7 as i have a bunch of equalizer settings in the idrive and a sub behind the back seat or under the seats or somewhere, i need to check later. Either way it's miles better than the crap e39 audio, but then again no audio is better than an e39 sound system.
I have some stories to tell about mine and other people's cars. It's a complete mess.

It's the costs of it all that may force me to sell. I am literally having to sell my left kidney. 0

The E60 is fairly well built inside tbh. What are the last 7 digits of your VIN?

I reckon it will be logic 7. It will have CCC idrive so the Avin setup is an upgrade. I had the basic and the hifi set ups in my 2 E39's, but both were poor. My old Saab 9-3 Aero had the worse audio in it for a modern car I have owned.

Re the 167's, thanks for the pics, it does indeed look like these have been refurbed, although looks like a decent job. Khumo's have plenty of life in them and tbh i quite like the design, so they're staying put for the time being.

Had a chance to properly spend time with the car this weekend, although not enough to get proper pics yet. Last 7 digits of the cn are CY10562 so looks like i don't have logic7, but do have some sort of premium audio with a decent set of equaliser settings. With a DAB station on the quality is pretty good.

One snag is i can't play music from my iphone 7 to the car now that Apple sunsetted the Aux cable jack, does anyone know how to connect the two?

I have a few roads around Boxhill that i like to take cars for a spin when i have an hour and it's quiet, so i followed that tradition with the M5 on Friday eve, and my conclusion is that the car is just too fast. What is a pretty dull gearbox around town is much more dynamic when pushing on, the docile engine in town driving becomes an absolute beast that just pulls and pulls, the sound of the V10 is awesome. I pretty much didn't take it out of second gear on the b roads. Blipping down a gear makes a sound that is absolutely addictive. It feels very light round the corners although it's bloated size is noticeable on the narrower lanes, the active seats really inspire confidence to keep pushing on.

Spend so far post purchase include an 2019 disk: £20 and a litre of 10w-60 for when it needs it, coming in at around £25.

Had to move the E34 M5 to allow some scaffolders access to a roof, needless to say the battery was flat...

You can plug a Bluetooth receiver into the aux and stream music from your phone.

Yours has the individual audio, which is supposed to be better than Logic7. Your car is well spec'd. Do you have any internal pictures? Does it have CIC or CCC? There are some options on yours that I am very jealous of - Through load rear seats, air cooled front seats and soft close doors. DAB would be nice as well.

I would look at removing comfort access (it can be coded out), stops the "key signal" relay theft.

Does it have a leather dash board?

At the risk of sounding like a total noob, what is CIC or CCC?

Yes to leather dash. Weirdly the comfort access was something that put me off a little, didn't know it could be coded out so that's a plus.

It's the type of iDrive. CCC is the original one, and CIC is the later version.

CCC

CIC

CIC is better. Faster and nicer to look at.

Re music - you could have bought one of these - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E60-5-Series-Genuin...tongue outf:1&frcectupt=true it goes where the CD changer lives in the glovebox. You'd need to get a lightning connector adapter for it though. The quality of music via the AUX is poor at best.

You can also get an AVIN unit that replaces the screen in the dash and is bluetooth.

Re the leather dash - you will also have alcantara headlining, a, b and pillars.

You can buy a carly obd module and the software for your phone and I believe you can code it out there. Alternatively for less you can buy a cable from cableshack (DCAN I think) and code it out using NCS Expert and NCS Dummy.

Cheers, so i have CCC as a pose to CIC but i agree that CIC looks alot sexier! What's involved in upgrading it?

Box with the iPhone should have come with a Lightning to AUX converter cable, allows you to use normal AUX inputs (we use it on our X5).

To upgrade to CIC, it involves a newer screen (higher resolution) and a new iDrive computer. The computer is behind the buttons (1-8) and CD drive underneath the climate controls, and in the case of the CCC system the DVD drive for the sat-nav. That would be changed for a similar system, but CIC uses a HDD system for navigation so there is no DVD drive. New controller too, comes to around £600, without labour (does require some dashboard assembly). People do upgrade the system, is considerably faster than the CCC system, but personally I find the CCC does the trick just fine. I would only upgrade if the CCC system decided to give up completely.

If you upgrade to CIC from CCC it also stops your ability to communicate with some of the ECUs.

That's actually really good to know, thanks!

I know the ECU needs to communicate engine oil level stuff, and glow plug messages on diesels etc. to the iDrive as it appears as a message at the bottom of the iDrive screen. Same goes for if the car needed a regen and told the iDrive to relay the message. But ho hum the issues of diesels rolleyes

Which ECU's cant's communicate? I'm guessing, in the case of ours, we were only months away from the new CIC iDrive being implemented, so believe that they could be compatible with a CIC iDrive.

I think it is more so to do with the updating of the ECUs more so than the reading of them.

Frankly I wouldn't bother going to CIC and just buy an avin unit instead if you have logic 7 and above.

In the spirit of keeping close to OEM, i guess i'll stick with CCC then, as mentioned, it still does it's job well.

The alternative is avin. It's what I will be fitting If I keep my M5. It just replaces the screen. It retains all of the original CCC functionality and has android as well.

You can get them from the UK and also the USA. Cheaper from the USA as I understand it, including the import duty.

The stock system you have is fine, just a little slower. I wouldn’t bother changing it.

Another PHer who bought his M5 the same time I bought mine now has 138k miles on it. He bought it in 2013 with about 65k on it. Spoke to him on Saturday and it’s still running fine. It’s had 2 lots of throttle actuators and 2 clutches in that time. First time around at 65k after he just bought it and a few weeks ago at 138k. Bearings were done at 95k.

For what it’s worth, I fitted the ipod kit (as above) to replace the cd changer in my M6.

It’s simple enough (takes about an hour), but if you’re used to more modern things, it’s not the best functionality ever. Basically, CD1 is playlists, CD2 is artists, CD3 is albums, CD4 is tracks (approx. - not near the car for 100% accuracy) etc.

I just leave an ipod in the glovebox & it’s done. Better quality than the aux streaming in my opinion. I imagine if you’re going to use your ‘phone, you’d route the connector into the centre cubby, which would lengthen the install time a bit, but would be completely hidden from view once parked up, and is easier than opening the glovebox all the time.

Didn’t need coding (I bought the OEM Alpine kit) - I assume it would be the same with the ebay one above, regardless of it saying it needs coding in the ad.
